The most rewarding things to do in Oblivion
I was inspired to make this on a lengthly wander from Cheydinhal to Leyawiin, travelling more or less due south until I hit the Black Marsh border and had to start heading west. About halfway through the journey I reached the top of a large valley and was granted an absolutely amazing view over almost the whole Niben basin, the foothills of the Valus mountains and Blackwood. Breathtaking.
So, what have you done in Oblivion where you've just sat back and gone 'Wow...'?

And another topic is derailed by bloodlust. I don't get it - I'd much rather gaze across Cyrodiil from the top of Dive Rock having climbed it and beaten the invisible monster than slaughter the entire population of a town...Ayoub wrote:Killed every person in Bruma.
EDIT: I also remember dragging all of their bodies into the center of the city and created a pile of bodies. Hahaha.
I kinda like doing that, climb to the top of Dive Rock, admire the view of Cyrodill, and then smile happily as the Adoring Fan falls down it's side to his death. Ahh, bliss.r wrote:I'd much rather gaze across Cyrodiil from the top of Dive Rock having climbed it and beaten the invisible monster than slaughter the entire population of a town...
I enjoy stealing food from shopkeepers, turning it into potions, and selling it back to them.
Also I really like hunting for rare books, and then cursing at the physics engine as I try to use it to sort my books vertically on the shelves in my house.
Now that I have Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul I have started getting a thrill out of narrow escapes. I am still pretty low level. When I did the Mages Guild quest for Chorrol, I started heading up the mountain (narrowly avoiding being eaten by a bear) and made it up to Cloud Top without incident. After I got the book, I was poking around a little, and after I looted a chest I found in the corner, I looked around and there's a MINOTAUR running at me with a giant hammer. I knew that thing could kill me in one blow so I started dashing down the mountain (in a straight line, not by the path) as fast as possible. It was awesome.

Once I did the Dark Brotherhood quest where you have to kill Baenlin by staging an accident* which I managed, then when I left the house I realised I'd been spotted by a guard and was now in trouble for breaking and entering. Bearing in mind I was wearing nothing more protective than a robe and didn't have a melee weapon I couldn't really take on the guards and being arrested wasn't really my thing, so I made a daring escape from Bruma travelling mostly by rooftop. I thought it was pretty awesome.
My other proud achievement was an expedition from Frostcrag Spire to Leyawiin, heading east from FS across the Jerall mountains to Dive Rock, then south, around Cheydinhal, over the Valus mountains then through Blackwood to Leyawiin. I did this exploring every ruin and cave I came to and not once did I have to venture into a city for any reason until I got to Leyawiin. I managed to be completely self-sufficient and could have survived for a lot longer if I needed to. I also made sure I slept in a campsite overnight - it's amazing how something so simple can immerse you so much more in the game - plus there's one point where you come to the head of a valley a bit north of the Peryite shrine and are offered a breathtaking view across the whole of the Nibenay basin. r - world-famous explorer of Cyrodiil at your command.
* The whole thing reminds me of a sketch from the Mitchell & Webb Look:
"I want you to make sure he is inconvenienced"
"Look, do you mean you want us to kill him? And if so, why can't you just say that? When you told me that Mr Williams was going to have an accident, it took 9 months for me to realise that I had to cause the accident!**"
** This in turn reminds me of a quote by the venerable Guy Pratt - "I was told my father was very ill, and would be for the next six months. What they didn't mention was that when the six months were up he would be dead"

i mentioned that i was going to do it in a previous post, but I used paintbrushes to climb the top of White Gold Tower. I know so many people have done it before me, but I was so proud of my self when I did,
it was also raining so it was hard to see. I love how this game acts with different weather patterns it's amazing. Anyway, I got to the top while it was raining, looked down, and didn't see much as it was cloudy. So I waited untill the rain stopped and stopped getting cloudy, and I could see the entire province! I was flabergasted by it! I also loved the detail the game creators put into the tower itself, since i was literally hugging it the entire way up, the detail of making it look thousands of years old just made my jaw drop.

I like doing that in real life. It's way more rewarding. Your feet and back hate you at the end of the day, but... well... It's more than worth it. Colorado, the Dakotas, Tennessee, Florida... Try it some time. Hiking is fun.r wrote:I was inspired to make this on a lengthly wander from Cheydinhal to Leyawiin, travelling more or less due south until I hit the Black Marsh border and had to start heading west. I hike all the time. Of course in England you can't really get that high up but Scafell Pike is 3200 feet, mostly free-climbing up rock, and it's great fun.Butterknife wrote:I like doing that in real life. I'm on a crusade right now for all daedric artifacts and I keep them safe in Rosethorn but I will probably move my assets to the new DLC battlethorn castle
and looking off of Dive Rock and see all of Cyrodil in a clear morning is amazing I mean like a lot of you it's worth it after you kill the invisible troll mom which had birth to an ape
the apes picture is on this wiki
I planned to do that for a while, and I really prefer taking the mountain road from Bruma to Cheydinhal, but I didn't do the long exploration before getting Oscuro's Overhaul and now I won't be able to for a long time. I can hardly even travel between cities on horseback without getting owned.r wrote: My other proud achievement was an expedition from Frostcrag Spire to Leyawiin, heading east from FS across the Jerall mountains to Dive Rock, then south, around Cheydinhal, over the Valus mountains then through Blackwood to Leyawiin.
