Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
It's a matter of opinion. Personally, I find the keyboard-mouse combination awkward as French. Analog sticks that control your movement give a better feeling of control. It's the reason why hardly anyone buys CoD for the PC.
If you have a good PC, get Skyrim for the PC. If you have an Xbox 360 controller, you can plug that into the PC's USB and bam, you've got yourself a moddable game with the superb feel of a controller.
If your PC isn't that great, get it for the Xbox.

My controllers are wireless, how would I hook them up to my PC?

There is a special dongle(LOL!) that you can get. It sticks into the PC's USB slot(LOL!) and hooks up with the wireless controller.

Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
A little more specific Lindal; what you need is the Microsoft XBox Wireless Gaming Receiver, it's meant to be quite good but I've been looking at the same thing and at £17 in the UK it might be better to have a look at other bluetooth controllers as a possibility since they may have a better layout. However, if you're happy with your XBox wireless controllers then being able to use them is a plus!dtmwerks wrote:My controllers are wireless, how would I hook them up to my PC?
It's just a shame that they're not as open as the PS3 ones, as a simple patch and you can use them as a standard bluetooth controller with a desktop computer, not that Sony's been great on the openness front recently but that's another story entirely
On the issue of XBox or PC, I heard that a lot of the screenshots are supposedly on the Xbox version of the game, can anyone confirm this? If it's true then the XBox version is going to be stunning, and I'll be getting that version and later getting a PC copy when I start to get a craving for any larger mods that have come out.

For any other game that was on pc and console I would say get it on console because you can enjoy it from the comfort of your couch on a nice big screen tv (I also prefer controllers). However, because of the huge amount of high quality mods that are going to be made for this, you should get it for pc.

I'd go for console first then if you have the rig, the PC. I like to explore and fully finish the game on console then work the deeper depths of it on PC with mods and how it works.

Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
One other thought; but Portal 2 I think is now available such that if you buy it for PS3 you can also download it for PC on Steam. With Oblivion, Morrowind, and Fallout 3 on Steam as well now I'm interested as to whether this might mean the same thing will happen with the PS3 version of Skyrim? In that case buying for PS3 may get you the PC copy as well which will be nice.
Dunno if I want to get a PS3 though as I was thinking of just getting an XBox 360 Slim so I can keep playing the games I have but with a better hard-drive and less noisy console. I suppose we can hope that Microsoft decides to compete with Sony on this one and enable linked with Steam before November?

Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
OK, to parrot my TES compatriots, if you:
1. Have a high end PC
2. Can handle the keyboard (ugh) or have a wired controller
3. Can resist the Console Command temptation
then get it for the PC, by all means. Still, I prefer Xbox for everything in TES except for the lack of mods, lower-end graphics and the godawful scrolling.
I have also played on PS3, and it really just comes down to this in the age-old console war: Do you hate the PS3's dinky controller or the 360's finicky hot-key d-pad more? I hate that dinky controller, so I personally vote 360, as it is overall the most reliable and smooth for me.

Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
With all this talk about being able to import mods/patches to consoles, I'll just have to wait and see. I feel that is going to be a huge deciding factor for me and a lot of other people. Too bad in his quote he said "one day" and most likely will not come with release. Still, if it's confirmed to come with the game eventually, like a few months after release, I'd be fine with getting it for the 360 then.

If you're interested in modding, then PC, otherwise, 360.

I'd say PC, but playing on xbox isn't a bad idea, it'd just give it a much better re-play value, especially when you go back and make your 'Perfect Save' (which we all do)

Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
It looks like running Skyrim at max graphics settings might require some serious hardware, but it will only require mid range hardware to run it better than an XboX 360 can. The XboX 360 is pretty old now. Anyone who's bought a new desktop in the last three years should only need to upgrade their graphics card, and that will be a pretty cheap upgrade come November.

Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
I have the intention of getting the game for the PC.
That being said, I would like to pose a question here. Since I know little to nothing about computers (Skyrim would be the first game I ever play on PC), I would like to ask what might be the predicted requirements for a system to adequately perform with Skyrim? I was looking at the new Apple iMac because it looks like a supremely fantastic desktop and I would love to own it, and from reading the specifications about it's capabilities, it seems to me that it performs rather well, but, as I said, I know little to nothing about computers. Therefore, if anybody with more knowledge concerning this topic would be able to weigh in on this, I would certainly appreciate the feedback, and I'm sure others in the same position as I am and reading the same response of "as long as you have the properly equipped rig" would as well.
EDIT: I was also reading some stuff about certain games being compatible with only Macs and only Windows, so does anybody know if ESV:Skyrim will be compatible with Mac or Windows or both?

Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
If it looks that good on an XboX 360, then someone at Bethesda is definitely doing their job, because what I've seen looks absolutely fantastic - better than most/all other XboX 360 games I've seen. Makes me even more excited to see it on PC.TheNightFather wrote:All the previews have been on xbox 360Moeboid wrote:It looks like running Skyrim at max graphics settings might require some serious hardware, but it will only require mid range hardware to run it better than an XboX 360 can. Both Morrowind and Oblivion required some fiddling to get working on a Mac (Boot Camp). I'm not sure whether Skyrim will run on one, but I think it would be silly if it doesn't because Mac's are quite popular now (my guess is still no though). Personally, I'd recommend a Windows system for a gaming PC because you'll never run into compatibility issues and games generally run better on Windows systems (If you check the system requirements for games that run on both systems, they'll generally be higher for Mac's). However, if you're really set on a Mac then you should probably wait until they give a definite answer. In fact, if Skyrim is all you're getting it for, then you should wait until it's released. The price of hardware drops so fast that whatever you spend now could get you something 30% better come November.Cloud_Nine wrote:I have the intention of getting the game for the PC.

If nothing for better graphics, PC has mods. That alone closes the deal.
PC is the way.

Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
I had the same question. I have an out dated imac, I think the 2007-08 version. I have an ATI Radeon HD 2600 graphics card, 2 GB of ram, Intel core 2 duo at 2.4 Ghz. I also have an xbox. I was wondering if I should, *breathes in* sell my mac for a gaming pc...
I love modding, I have done it at my friends house and on my own imac, but I don't want to do the same for Skyrim. I might get a copy of windows xp or 7, since no body I know has one and set up bootcamp for my mac.
So I can either (1) get it for xbox (2) get a whole new gaming pc (3) get windows 7 for my outdated imac. I could also upgrade my ram
What should I do?
(P.S. I don't have that much money so getting a new pc would be hard)
Edit: Just found out I can't update my graphics, ram only.

I'm going to go pc WITH a wired controller. You see I love using a controller but I don't think my arcade Xbox could handle the graphics considering it got rrod from [&@%!] itself with oblivions so Skyrim would equal instant hardware explosion...
I'm going to have to buy a new computer but I needed to anyways. For those in the same shoes I recommend a Alienware m17x, IT PWNS

Re: Should I get this for pc or xbox 360
From purely a physical perspective, a console version would be better, not only because of ergonomic controllers, but because it can be played on a T.V., while sitting on a decent couch or armchair, which makes it easier to play with people watching, or while watching others. Anyone who has pulled of a RPG marathon-run with friends or siblings knows what I mean. Two people trading off turns at max difficulty is just easier on a couch. Entertainment-wise, a console might be more enjoyable. Consoles can also keep an active record of achievements.
Technologically, PCs can give quick fixes for quest-breakers (or God forbid,) game-breakers. PCs can triple the lifetime of games through of mods, and can use windows-friendly controllers. PCs can also be configured to give output for standard or high-def T.V.s (but not always easily), allowing for greater gaming comfort. Assuming a multi-core processor with around 3GHz from each core, and 3GB of RAM, a PC should out-perform most consoles, theoretically.
For low budgets, pick-up-and-play gaming, and less hassle, go for a console. For intense, visually customized, solo, all-night questing, go for a PC.
