Methods of Movement.

Post by LegoHouse »

Okay, So i was thinking, Because sprinting is a new addition to the elderscrolls series i wanna know how you think and or want it to work.
Feel free to also add other methods of movement that you think would be cool.
(Knowing it is mapped to the LB button)
I honestly think this could go badly because im not sure weather im seeing things but the clip during the trailer makes sprinting look like it dramaticaly decreases sensitivity. I hope it works out great and has perks to assist its greatness!
Also what do you think will be sprintings effect in water?

If there's no sensitivity to our movement, that could really shaft over sneaking, without lube.

I hope LB isn't sprinting, But is actualy A faster movement for most actions such as a Gallop on hourseback or as we know sprinting.

I know I'm being very hopeful, but it would be awesome if they implimented the Brink style of movement. If my assassin could vault over walls and climb buildings with ninja-like precision, well that would be amazing.

I'm hoping that walking and running on consoles are dependent upon pressure on the joystick so pushing it forward only a little will walk, while all the way will run. Sprint would then be a separate button. I'm hoping that the joystick sensitivity will actually be gated, so there is a much more distinct step from walking to running, rather than your speed changing smoothly with the movement of the joystick, so you actually noticeably speed up from walking to running, making it a bit easier to hover just below running.

Ideally things will be similar to before, where walking fatigues you the least when attacking, while running will cause fatigue and possibly reduce accuracy. Sprinting will be a very fast movement mode, but you wouldn't be able to attack at all while doing it, so the point is to use it to escape or get to some key location as fast as possible. You presumably won't be able to sprint while in sneak mode.

Sprinting in water should make you do the front-crawl or something. I'm going to love using LB to sprint; won't have to adapt very much because of Reach.
I think that they'll maintain the ability to control movement speed with the use of sticks. Sprint will just help you get past your maximum speed using joystick pressure only.

i don't mind either way, short bursts of extra speed would be cool and i think there is a spare button or two in the joypad

curiously, having played blops i would also really like to be able to run and dive to cover, tho it isnt really relevant to a game without guns lol

Ohh that would be cool if they put in Brink style parkour. Like perks for athletics that allow you to automatically jump off walls climb over objects and push NPCs out of the way when you're sprinting. That could make for some intense thievery and assassinations! Aside from that I'm glad they put the sprint function in. I always thought in Oblivion and Morrowind that unless you had 70 in speed or above it looked like you where running in slow motion.

I completely agree! This would be very cool if there were a system set up so that characters could develop their abilities to climb and vault and stuff. I like the idea of it being attached to a skill, but I think agility would be better than athletics. I also really like your thought, cpanda, that you could have varying rates of success in pushing people out of the way while sprinting. Some people who are high in that skill could do it successfully, but less skillful characters attempting it may get knocked down in the attempt.
If I knew ahead of time where and when I would need to physically defend myself or others, I would simply avoid that time and place...but I don't...hence CPL...

I don't think either agility or athletics exist anymore, but as a perk that could be really awesome! Combined with various perks for sneaking more quietly, running while in sneak mode etc... not quite the free-running of Assassin's Creed but it'd be damned awesome, the only thing I ever really did with acrobatics was use it to get on the roofs of houses so being able to do that with a climbing perk or by vaulting from a sprint then entering sneak mode to hide there would be a dream come true.
