I had started to suspect it when I thought about jumping animations. Skyrim is just too clean to have 5 second jumps and people running about at 100 mph all the time. It feels like the end of an era though.

Seems like no more jumping like 20 meters high or jump of a cliff and survive nearly unharmed...

Strong melee fighter, you need to get perk A to carry 1.5 times more than now or you can't use heavy armor and weapons^^

Could be possible as I thought that merchantile and speechcraft could be merged in one skill to.
The Acrobat+Athletics skill could also determine encumbrance.

Jump magic will probably replace acrobatics, and I'm sure there will be a way to increase a character's speed.

as long as there is a speed spell, swift swim, jump and/or slow fall I'll be happy

however, no attributes makes the min/max-er in me die

Was encumbrance affected by these, I thought that was just strength to determine how much you can carry and if you go over you're suddenly a geriatric with bad legs?

Running is something they've not really covered, as I keep hearing sprinting mentioned. I'm thinking maybe speed will be like it is with either fast but costly movement or steadier walking, with sprinting rendering you unable to attack but moving you a lot faster. This way athletics isn't really going to be missed I think. As you'll be able to go faster than the standard walking and running by sprinting, but it'll be suited best to escape or getting to something important ahead of the other guy.

I don't think they'll be missed too much, as in Oblivion they led to a lot of frustrating situations where NPCs are lightning faster, so levelling the playing field a bit will make things a little less silly and avoid you feeling like you have to spend hours swimming to get yourself up to a decent speed. As perks or spell effects as mentioned I think things will be a lot cleaner as they weren't really the best way to handle them I think, especially when the difference between low and high in Oblivion was massive; players want to feel like they're making a difference to their character, but that kind of a scale didn't work well for athletics and acrobatics IMO.

Actually the NowGamer article has a good quote for it, unfortunately I can't link the article for reference but it's linked in the April 18th thread if you want to read it all:
So when someone goes ‘you took out my stat’, I’m always like ‘well, which one do you want?’ If intelligence affects your magicka, well now you just have magicka. They all tripled-down to something else so now when you level up you can just increase your magicka. In Oblivion you have to raise your intelligence knowing doing this raises your magicka and they all lead to some other stat.
So it sounds like they have really thought about it; if you want to have more magicka then you just increase it when you level it up, if you want to hit things in the face harder then you pick an appropriate perk. Presumably athletics and acrobatics will have such perks, though hopefully they won't result in such a big difference between low-level and high-level as Oblivion had.

I think most of you are displeased because you are so comfortable with the 'class' system in Oblivion and are opposed to change from this, but I am almost 100% sure that whatever the new system is it will be much better. Most of you will probably love the new system and not want to go back once you've played the game and got the hang of it.
