Favorite Oblivion Quest?

Post by brynn »

I've finished all the main quest lines in the game and now I'm just doing freelance work. It's a lot of fun, but I feel pretty sad knowing that I've done the vast majority of the game now.

What are some of your favorite non-guild related quests? It'd probably be better to word which one they are in a way that doesn't spoil it. For example, my favorite so far would probably be the dream world one given to you by Kud-Ei in Bravil (leader of the mages guild in that city). Another one that I enjoyed, although not really a quest, is one that's started in Dive Rock that's NE of Cheydinhal.

How about you guys?

My favorite quest so far was the one where you have to get the locket for the Mage Guild lady (I can never remember any of the names) for several reasons none of which have to do with the actual quest script. First, it was the first time that I ran across ebony armor and how valuable (gold) it seemed. I was so delighted that I could gather all the loot up and sell it for some REAL CASH that I was beside myself. Second, the final room, the one that held the actual quest item, was protected by a wil-o-the-wisp and a minotaur. The WotW had, up to that quest, kicked my ass handily. And I had never seen a Minotaur. So both of those things had my pulse going. After some fancy footwork and excellent sneaking around, I managed to separate the two monsters and I succeeded killing them both off. And last, but not least, when I got my hands on the quest item and turned around to leave, there was that dude from the Mages guild talking to me. Well, I wasn't prepared for that and I was so startled that I literally jumped out of my chair. It was quite memorable. Oh and by the way, it took me like 2 hours to haul out the loot. I had to do it twice because the first time I tried, I lost some of the best stuff to the 'repopulation' of the cave I was in. I learned that to have a better chance at taking everything with me, I had to haul it all out and lay it down at the entry way of the cave where it seems it is less likely to disappear.

Well, a few quests spring to mind, like the Sheogorath quest or the lich asassination quest. Actually, I kinda liked ALL of the DB quests. I loove stealthy take-down. :) (except when i dont)

Hmm...

Nope. That wasn't Sheogorath quest.
Sheogorath quest is MY favourite and it involved the population of Border Watch, the cheese, sheep, rats...
I'm no longer welcome to Border Watch :)

I quite enjoyed the Sanguine quest too. Paint trolls were nice. Nightmare - moody but the absolutely pathetic reward (a scroll worth 7 gold!) spoiled it.

Oh, and when I arrived at the gates of Kvatch first (chased by bandits, trolls and what not and running for a safe haven), I just muttered "Quatsch" (German for "You're [&@%!] me"). :D

Besides, I'm on an out-of-quest kinda quest, "explorer". Raiding of random ruins and getting all the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Places page links filled - usually with a few words of review for each place :)

Exploring is great. There are many small roads that are not marked on the map and they usualy go somewhere interesting. A fort, a ruin, a lake with clams and a chest etc.

***Spoiler***

Definitely the quest to save the painter. Had to travel inside the painting and kill those painted trolls. The coolest part was the world. Everything looked like it had been painted, almost cell shaded-ish.

I think my favorite quest was the one where you had to kill the skeletal wizard in your house in Anvil. That was the first house I bought, and I bought it because I really loved the town of Anvil and wanted to live there. The place was a beat-up, crappy place before I finished that quest, but once I axed all the ghosts and pounded that stupid skeletal wizard into submission, the place shaped up immediately. I love that place and I find myself looking for excuses to go to Anvil and hang out in my house. I love getting enough "chi" for a level, going to Anvil, crashing at my place, and then getting up at 5am to go to the lighthouse and watch the sun come up.

The quest itself irritated me a couple of times (I forgot to pick up the hand and the note, so when I went to the Imperial City to find that clown that sold me the house, he wouldn't come back with me and I had to make the trip back to Anvil), but I love it because of the house.

I wish you could have parties like in The Sims.

Yes! I loved the Anvil haunted house quest too. Never thought of watching the sunrise from the lighthouse. Must do that.

I love to come home to Anvil, put the armor in the bedroom closet and slip into my beautiful blue velvet outfit. Maybe sit by the fire downstairs for a while or go down in the basement to whip up some new potions. The basement is great for storage. Room for everything. Meat here, dairy product there. Fruit in one barrel, funghi in the next etc. Lovely.

Now my first char is getting quite rich, so she keeps buying a lot of houses and store various outfits in all of them so she won't have to carry stuff around. However, I wish there were more ways to spend money. I'd like to be able to give the beggars some more gold, give stuff to poor people, make donations to the temple etc.

Yeah, I'm digging that house in Anvil. I just cleared it out last night and then Baramus (I probably spelled his name wrong) tracked me down and took me back to the Imperial City sewers to do a mission about recovering some book, so I haven't had time to hang out in Anvil and stock the place with cool stuff (although I do have a battleaxe of shock in one of my dressers, which always makes me laugh. I keep imagining that it's next to my shirts and socks). I'm looking forward to going back to Anvil and just checking out the countryside nearby to see if I can find any cool stuff in caves or that nasty Oblivion gate that suddenly cropped up on the hillside.

One of the things I love about this game is that I can spend hours of real time just kind of wandering around and seeing the sites. Yeah, you run into the occasional troll in the woods or whatever, but that doesn't usually spoil my afternoon. Actually, I've taken to walking along the roads and looking for bandits. They always seem to have some mac daddin' weapons. Not sure what they're hoping to gain by mugging travellers for 100 gold pieces when they've got dwarven bows and elven daggers, but ... ya know.

Heh...
My houses:
Cheydinhal: My nice cozy house where I'll spend my free time when I retire.
Skingrad: Museum of my achievments. I'm not going to live there. The display cases are just too obnoxious.
Bravil: No idea what madness posessed me to buy that dump.
Anvil: Infinite Ectoplasm Supply

Not mine yet:
Chorrol: Maybe I'll buy it, nice terrains though the place is rather dull.
Imperial City: Not gonna buy that dump, prefer mages tower and thieves guild den.
Anvil: AYIEEEEE MOSQUITOS! and the white stallion knights lodge is cooler.

I think I have purchased the majority of the houses, but my favorite is definitely Skingrad. The house is huge but cozy, plenty of space to show off rare loot and store anything else that I don't feel like lugging around. (Alchemy ingredients, differently enchanted suits of armor, filled soul gems, magical arrows for special occasions, etc.) Plus it has a maid.

I really enjoy the game altogether, but my sweet little Breton wench was rather easily corrupted when Lucien Lachance woke her up one morning, pointed out what a horrible naughty girl she had been and then actually patted her on the head and complimented her for it. Sneak kill people and get paid in cash and useful magic items? (Especially the horse). Yes sir! So I'd have to say the Dark Brotherhood in general was my favourite questline, to say too much would spoil for those who haven't done it. Who wouldn't like the chance to get their own back on bigmouth elves though....

I'm with those who love the Anvil house and associated quest, because I too enjoy staying there and going for a walk by the sea. However, having done the Dark Brotherhood right through, I err...tend to avoid the lighthouse basement!

I liked the Hackdirt one, but I wanted a bit more of an ending. I also wanted to find the "Deepest ones" (or was that what I found?)

I loved the Inside a Nightmare one - that was inspired. And very dreamlike.

The painting-theft one was also cool.

Yup. Hackdirt started really great and built great atmosphere. But the ending was completely anti-climactic.

Just imagine the "nice guy" is a traitor and you arrived too late... and the girl isn't dead, oh, no! She doesn't remember a thing of what happened. You get the first hint of trouble brewing when her own horse runs away from her in panic... Then she arrives to Chorrol just fine... And only THEN real trouble begins...
