You don't have to duel with guns, you can duel with swords too. Have you ever seen people fight with those steel cutlasses? Walking around in circles and swinging at each other? That's what it will be like.

Oh... That's good.
Thanks Korutsuru!
@zzfallens I know, but they said "Western-Style", and it occured to me as they were talking about guns.

yea, it was pretty confusing but I know they wouldn't add guns, they probably mean like people will crowd around you and you back up count to 3 and draw your swords.

When they mean Western Style, but they were not meaning the American Wild West showdown, but rather west as in anything west of the Middle East (up to America that is, as going across the Pacific Ocean is the Far East, aka Asia).

huh, I thought they meant you would duel people with a pseudo-shoot-out style atmosphere (tension, grit, people hiding, you know the usual ambiance of a western cowboy movie shoot-out).

I think they meant dueling more in the sense of what Hollywood portrays in some movies about the Middle Ages and so on (like a couple of scenes from Disney's version of the Three Musketeers that come to my mind off the top of my head).

I believe that "western" is meant like this:
PC gets challenged. People gather round. The combatants walk around a bit, fight and someone wins and is respected or feared. Something like that.

I just hope those challengers will not appear every time I'm in a city.

Dueling could be interesting. I mean, if you're a infamous deadly criminal, you'd probably be dueled constantly by bounty hunters. Or if your a holy paladin of all that's good and fluffy, you'd probably be confronted by assassins or what not.

Exactly my thoughts on paladins, crusaders, and knights. Yuck.Spiney wrote:Dueling could be interesting. Wouldn't dueling be more British in late 1700s to early 1800s style dueling, if there are only swords to duel with? "Western-style" duels would be weird, whether it's only people's reactions or not.

I hope that it's made like in Red dead redemption, and not like you randomly get attacked while walking around the city.

I think that's what they meant. You and the other guy battling it out with swords with onlookers.

Re: Please, Don't Screw Skyrim Over...
Samurai duels are famous, the wild west connection might be to do with Akira Kurosawa, John Ford, and Spaghetti westerns which are all interconnected in movie culture. My favourite samurai duelling move is Sanjuro (i think lol) it is pretty awesome how fast and deadly these things could be
there is also the possibility they mean knife/axe throwing/ crossbows, spells and so on
and remember, if they did put guns in for some bizarre and disturbing reason, pc players will probably be able to just console them out of the game, and other gamers will no doubt track down and kill every creature using them, carry all guns to the edge of the world, and throw them into a crevasse

It's not like adding guns will ruin the entire game unless they are handled poorly and are immensely overpowered (fable)

Guns are op compared to swords
magic may be able to compete but really meale wont
I can only think of one game that I've played that has guns and swords and works
Devil may cry
and if Devil may cry was like TES then I don't think it would of worked
So please no guns

As long as this doesn't mean turn based combat then I'm okay with it. Turn based combat is the biggest gaming faux pas ever. Except for in Pokemon games <3

Probably whoever wrote it was either falsely led by some random magazine journalist or phrased it wrong and caused this confusion. "Western style" warhammer battles just doesn't sound right to me.
