A game is for enjoyment. All MMO's prove to fail in these aspects. All you worry about in an MMO is rewards and get stupid little virtual items to show off. That is not a game, that is a second, primitive, life... You try to be the best in the game just because. There is no enjoyment, all there is, is the strive to be #1.

With the way MMOs are set out, your primary focus is getting money and grinding to do better things in the game. What happens you're the best? wow you have all these cool little items that dont actually exist, your such a badass.
An MMO doesn't have to be about being the best.
That's just the competitive side of multiplayer, you can play an MMO and have plenty of fun not being the best.
As for virtual items... As opposed to 'real' items in a single player game? lol
Questing is a big part of MMOs too, much the same as sidequests in a single player RPG.
You can do them solely for the reward, but the experience is better imo.
You don't like MMOs, coolio. Enough reason for you to be against an ES MMO, but that's what most of your argument is. Opinion.
Not any reason as to why an ES MMO would be a bad idea- And I'm sure if they made one they'd have a different team for it than their regular team. Wouldn't "take away" from any progress on the regular games.

I'm not really too into conventional MMORPGs like WoW, but if there were an ES style one I'd try it.
What I don't want is a hybrid- Which we now know Skyrim isn't? (Korutsuru's posts a couple pages back)
An MMO encourages and almost forces you to do everything for money and items
You have to deal with a load of a-holes in competitive multiplayer
Im not saying rpg items are real in any way, im trying to explain that items are all you focus on in the game.

The experience is not worth all the crap that the game forces you to go through... So what if you are the #1 player in the game? then what? Absolutely nothing! Congratulations! you spent months of work and hundreds of dollars on nothing! all this storyline and lore wasted just because you wanted to be the best.. In ES, you get to focus and understand the lore and storyline, not grinding, getting better armor, and making money.

I don't give a crap if zenimax makes an MMO, but it is not something for elder scrolls. Elder scrolls games have the experience of a free-roam MMO, minus loads of crap, and thats all I see of the outcome of an ES mmo. Make this perfect massive free-roam area where we can do wherever we want and go wherever we want, it has one simple amount of money to pay for entertainment that will last a long time, and just drop a big pile of crap on it. Loads of grinding, terrible immature communities, loads and loads and loads of restrictions, and a pay-per-month.

First: Games can't force you to do anything.
If you can't learn to ignore a-holes then no, you shouldn't play anything competitive. Isn't something that goes just for MMOs.
And the reason I mentioned questing was to point out that items aren't the only thing you focus on. You focus on playing, and sharing the experience with other people.
If you don't like it then again, that's opinion.
I already mentioned you don't have to try to be #1, and storyline and lore isn't wasted; You can get just as immersed in an MMO's lore as you can in any other virtual world.
One of the pro- reasons for an ES MMO- They already have alot of lore that alot of people are already familiar with.
An MMO would be a new way to interact with it.

Immature communities- Dunno what you mean, but sounds more like a people problem than any game's problem.
Restrictions- All games have them? I can't fly to Masser or Secunda.
Grinding- If killing enemy after enemy just to get to a sigil stone 50 times isn't repetitive then nothing is.

First: yes they can. Wow as my primary example. You have to buy wow itself and 3 more expansions to actually progress
Yeah there's questing, but all the stuff you have to to to actually get to it? no thanks. All wow quests are are for leveling and rewards, no one actually cares about the quests (blizzard poorly writes them anyway...)
Yes you can try to understand the lore, but again, you have to go through a load of crap

You don't have to buy WoW if you don't wanna pay for it all. But using that logic most games 'force' you to buy them so you can play them. Unless you're gonna pirate. Yes mods, I know "No talk of Piracy."
Most quests in any game are for rewards.. But I'm sure there are alot of people who'd disagree when you say no one cares about them.
Your last point doesn't even make sense. lol
If you wanna understand anything you'll have to try. :P

You've taken that in the wrong context- I mean if you wanna understand the lore you'll obviously have to try.

I understand lore in the warcraft series and would call myself a fan of it, but I just do not like how WoW is made.

I like the idea of "minimal multiplayer". 2-4 ppl, but....I think it should be totally separate from the main game. In fact i would say make it a DLC (not free of course), Bethesda won't go broke if it flops, and they can get a nearly perfect idea of what the public wants. No story, just lots of dungeons to crawl, BIG ONES. By keeping separate from the main game, it won't effect lore, it won't effect the Dovahkin's progress, it will be a totally separate entity. It works well for ppl w/o internet, because they don't have disk space taken up ( what little it uses), it works for ppl with internet for obvious reasons, & it works for Bethesda because the money they do or don't make will (once again this is only my opinion) let them gauge what ppl want. I'm sick of nearly every internet capable game (on consoles) being an fps shooter. I have all the C.o.D.'s, I have Warhawk, I have Battlefield 2, M.o.H, & I just bought crysis 2. IT'S ALL THE SAME DAMN THING!!! No matter how different they try to make it. I think

i think they should at least put a coop in it which wouldnt be so bad because it wont take that much more effort to include this but i also think that the idea about the arena would be amazing because then its a chance to put your skills to the test. so thumbs up for a multiplayer from me :D

Perhaps co-op as far as you can create two characters and while one is not being played it either follows you or stays in a designated "co-op inn" (possibly allowing for multiple allies for multiple friends) that only houses co-op characters. You could be able to set a modifier that increases leveling as a handicap for co-op characters so that they stay at a relatively similar level. What I mean is that somebody you play lots with might get a 1.1x modifier, while someone you play with only once in a blue moon might get a 2.5x modifier.

TDU2 and red dead showed how multiplayer can be used seamlessly with a single player experience, and red river is an absolutely excellent single player campaign which can be played co operatively

so doing this for skyrim is entirely possible, it just wont be TES imo

i can see them going co op (or even mmo) with TES one day , but for now they are totally geared up for the total immersion of a highly detailed single player experience and that is their strength

i'd enjoy an arena or a bar room where i can meet/ fight other characters and the idea of arena regalia (light/heavy) in Oblivion is already sort of heading that way (standard equipment for combatants). But i'm not sure adding mp will add enough to the game to make it worth it

Something I think would be kind of interesting for a simple co-op would be the ability to play as a summon. So I could be playing my mage character and my friend stops by on Saturday afternoon.

"Hey, how you doing? Just playing some Skyrim. Want to Join?"
Sure, why not? I've got a few hours."

2 hours later.

"Ok. Now I want to be the Frost Atronoch"
"No problem." *opens menu, sets spell.* "There we go. Where should we head next?"
"No idea. Hmmm...North?"

Another 2 hours go by.

"Well, I'm off. Have to head home to make dinner for the lady"
"See you later and enjoy your evening. I'll give you a shout tomorrow"
"See you"

5 minutes later

"No you stupid atronoch. Attack the shaman!!![#^%#@&]"

I think that would be great. Wouldn't affect the lore, the world, the lone hero idea, nothing. It would just add an interesting element IMO.

This is a great idea. And since multiplayer has been confirmed to not exist. I was thinking what if you could summon one of your other characters in your game and you could switch between them.

I think that's a great idea, being a summon or an npc for a while in a quest would be a good way to enhance the game in a fun way

not wishing to summon the unquiet spirits of the console/pc war, but

TES won't be a MMO until you can run an MMO on a console, so whilst they might release an ES MMO which is built from scratch, they would be a bit sill to cut out the 360 and ps3 gamers and imo will continue to stick with the mp restrictions of xbox live
