Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
You know what they should do... they should make it so you have a system link kind of option where you can play with your friends but at the same time you can be half way across the [game] map, or fight along side with your friends. I personally think that this would be a great idea. But if they made the game an mmo it would ruin the game. But what concerns me is that they're kind of heading in that direction. The fact that you can now mine resources and make weapons out of them give a runescape kind of feel. But then again, Monster Hunter does that and they're not mmo, at least I don't think.

Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
I just would like the ability to invite one person into my world (with rules I set) to adventure with. Similar (but better) to Fable. It would be bad to do anything else without completly changing the game.

How about the ability to see other players characters. Being able to see what my friends class and stats are would be kind of cool. Or maybe the ability to view friends houses in first person. You could even make museums that way.

Not true multiplayer... at all... but the fable 2 "orb" system would be cool.

If they were gonna make some kind of 'TES Online' crap, they would develop it separately from Skyrim. That call centre up in Galway looks like the start of it. The poor wiki will never be able to document it all.

Challenge accepted. If a MMO comes out we will do our best to document it, and I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be that hard. Plus MMO's are supported for long periods of time, meaning more users staying active for longer, if anything a MMO will be a boon to the community as we would have more users, who stay for longer, with more new users showing up all the time (MMO's attract new fans for longer). Even if I don't play it I will appreciate it as it would cause our community to grow at a regular pace.legoless wrote:If they were gonna make some kind of 'TES Online' crap, they would develop it separately from Skyrim. Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
Good point, and I'm sure it could be done. But without console commands it wouldn't be covered as well as the other main games. I'm actually all for an MMO - I'm just thinking about the headache each update will cause, and the unprecedented amount of patrolling which no doubt will needed for the constant flux of low quality edits. Plus, the more investment in Ireland the better.AKB wrote:Challenge accepted. If a MMO comes out we will do our best to document it, and I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be that hard. Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
I'm surprised to see all of the feedback against implementing multiplayer in Skyrim. I understand that Morrowind & Oblivion were both EXCELLENT games even without a multiplayer option, but I still wish they had one.
To be clear, I am not in favor of an MMO or PvP style multiplayer for Skyrim.
I just wish that they would include an incredibly BASIC form of co-op. And by BASIC, i mean that I really don't want them to go out of their way to make anything other than a simple up-to-4-player connectivity. They don't need to bother trying to make the other characters "fit" into the rest of the game - just the ability to have them should one so desire. If Bethesda put much more than that into a multiplayer mode, I would agree with what most people have said about multiplayer in Skyrim: it would take away from resources that would better be used to perfect the single player gameplay.
At the very least - if they don't make a multiplayer, I wish they would give modders the tools to be able to do so themselves. All of the multiplayer modding attempts in Oblivion were sketchy workarounds that were so problematic, they weren't worth using in the end.

Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
There actually is a multiplayer mod for Oblivion, although it's not finished yet. It's still very basic and I'm not sure if it's still being developed.dmlayton wrote: At the very least - if they don't make a multiplayer, I wish they would give modders the tools to be able to do so themselves. Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
mutiplayer in skyrim? hmm....that would be cool, but if there is going to be it should be local, as i doubt any one would want to play with a bunch of idiots online(not saying all are but most are) as it would be fun to play with my friend, but as i hate split screen it wouldn't be much fun. so if they were to put in mutiplayer i think it should be a arena type thing

It would be nice to play with my friend. I don't know how it would work for pc considering im a pc gamer.... 2 people on one keyboard is always awkward.

They'll create a new game for the Worms series! A turned-based strategy game, where you can throw funny weapons at your friends and foes...Blackfire wrote:It would be nice to play with my friend. And now for something completely different:
I support the idea of a game where maybe you could create a local server and enter 1-4 players and just adventure and discover the world, but I'd hate to see Skyrim become a MMO

My response to people saying Es should be an mmo:
Ofcourse! why not make mass effect, Assassins creed, Dragon age, and dead space all MMOs while were at it, and let the game creators give us less and less good content for more and more money!

Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
I sense an unpleasant experience with an MMO in your past... Why are you so against an MMO Elder Scrolls game? It would give the series a much more regular fan base that can grow at a more steady rate, plus since MMO's get updated on a regular basis for years longer than any other style of game would be abandoned we would get to enjoy a constant stream of Elder Scrolls. Along with the main series (Arena through Skyrim) to give us the single player experience that I at least love and cravem this should be ideal for everyone. So what's not to like?Blackfire wrote:My response to people saying Es should be an mmo:

A stupid and rude fanbase. Come on, MMO communities are just terrible.AKB wrote:I sense an unpleasant experience with an MMO in your past... Why are you so against an MMO Elder Scrolls game? Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
I'm sorry but I do not generalize large groups of people. The only real reason I see them not doing this is because MMO's don't really match the Elder Scrolls style. But I can't even imagine a scenario where that is reasonably true.mars wrote:A stupid and rude fanbase. Neither do I. I know a lot of MMO players personally and believe me they all have some shared bad qualities.AKB wrote: I'm sorry but I do not generalize large groups of people. Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
Because a game should not revolve around the stress of grinding and dealing with rude people.
A game should not be about being the best.
A game is for enjoyment. All MMO's prove to fail in these aspects. All you worry about in an MMO is rewards and get stupid little virtual items to show off. That is not a game, that is a second, primitive, life... You try to be the best in the game just because. There is no enjoyment, all there is, is the strive to be #1.
With the way MMOs are set out, your primary focus is getting money and grinding to do better things in the game. What happens you're the best? wow you have all these cool little items that dont actually exist, your such a badass.

Well said. The only multiplayer I would want would be maybe an arena so you could fight other people, or with other people. No rewards though, just to have fun.Blackfire wrote:Because a game should not revolve around the stress of grinding and dealing with rude people.

Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
Multiplayer in Skyrim need not mean that it has to be an MMO. If we are given multiplayer it should be like Fable's multiplayer. Please don't sue me for suggesting Skyrim should have an aspect to it similar to another game.

That's just the competitive side of multiplayer, you can play an MMO and have plenty of fun not being the best.
As for virtual items... As opposed to 'real' items in a single player game? lol
Questing is a big part of MMOs too, much the same as sidequests in a single player RPG.
You can do them solely for the reward, but the experience is better imo.
You don't like MMOs, coolio. Enough reason for you to be against an ES MMO, but that's what most of your argument is. Opinion.
Not any reason as to why an ES MMO would be a bad idea- And I'm sure if they made one they'd have a different team for it than their regular team. Wouldn't "take away" from any progress on the regular games.
I'm not really too into conventional MMORPGs like WoW, but if there were an ES style one I'd try it.
What I don't want is a hybrid- Which we now know Skyrim isn't? (Korutsuru's posts a couple pages back)
