Wild horses?

Post by zowrath »

I've been stalking the wild horses south of the IC for hours now, and I got so close to one running right by me but I could not seem to mount it at all. Is there no way to ride these creatures? Do I have to buy a horse to own it?

There's a mod to make these horses ridable.
Otherwise you can get a free paint horse at Weynon Priory (follow the main quest), a great cursed horse called Shadowmere from a Dark Brotherhood quest, and being somewhat clever you can ride the Unicorn (Harcane Glade, further south from where the wild horses are), but Unicorn is a challenge to ride, attacking anything that has a weapon drawn (including you) and walking back "home" if left alone not in enclosed area. And you can steal any horse :)

Thanks :) I'll guess I'll stop chasing these beasts of burden and do some quests instead

Wow - I didn't know there were wild horses. I've never seen any. Where exactly are they?

What irks me is that when you find an abandoned horse (presumably from a slain guard or some such) you can't do anything with it, without it counting as stealing. You should at least be able to ride it back to the nearest stables for bounty/fame point.

I've seen smattering of wild horses just about everywhere, however they seem to stick relatively close to towns/cities. I also seem to come across more when in southerly regions.

Hmm, where? The only wild herd I found is south of Mages guild, the field across Lake Rumare. And always there.

Apart from the ones Vook mentions, the only wild horses I seem to see are some dead paint horses near the Leyawiin Oblivion Gate. Frankly, they ain't looking too wild. For a great horse to ride, join the Dark Brotherhood, be really vile and get Shadowmere. She goes like the wind, looks mean and by Sithis she is mean, but unlike the unicorn, she only beats up your enemies and can't die.

I don't know what I saw, maybe one of my wandering horses, maybe something else. It turns out there are only wild horses in that one area, near the Imperial City. People at the Imperial City stables, Chestnut Handy I believe they're called, say that they have lost some horses. So I am sure that the horses in the nearby wild are those horses. So they are more like lost horses than wild horses. If I remember correctly someone at the stables thinks a nearby Orc ate the horses.

You know, I visited that stable and randomly wound up talking to that Orc that was accused of eating the horses. The orc seemed pretty sketchy, and I'm willing to believe that he/she/it ate the horses.

Now could someone tell me why is she marked as a quest character? I really wanted to kill that [&@%!], but she just goes unconscious.

Checked it in CS, but there is no quest what so ever related to her, so I have no idea...

Hmm, her being a quest character REALLY makes me think that the lost horses and those wild horses that conveniently happen to be nearby were originally intended to be a part of some quest. I'm sure when the orc was put into the game she was supposed to be part of this quest, probably as the wrongfully accused that had to be defended.

Yesterday I chased and lured a wild horse till I got it into Waterfront. At the time I decided my speed needs upgrade and time to train some athletics and acrobatics. As you probably know, on higher levels training athletics and acrobatics is an extremely tedious task. Not with the horse. Racing with it around the harbour, getting it to perform tricks on the pirate ship, running through backyards by the shacks, trying to cut corners by the pier... Since the horse can't escape the Waterfront, it provides hours of fun! :D

in the wiki files it does explain that the orc horse seller does in fact eat the horses and not all 'essential' characters are quest characters either
