crashes
I'm having major issues with crashes. Iwas working through the daedric blood quest and it crashed hard on me in the cave. The bumber of it was is that I was saving the game frequently then the game would even load anymore. I lost bookoo game time having to drop back 3 levels to an earlier save. It seems to happen when equipping bows that are found and picked up. I looks like I may loose my level 27 guy, what a bummer. i've downloaded the patch but things seem worse.
The official Elder Scrolls site has a number of possible reasons for crashes.
Some drivers for peripheral devices are listed...you may want to see if you have any. Fixes are easy though, just end any conflicting process.
One thing that I found that frequently was associated with crashes in my game early on was autosave. For some reason autosave put more strain on resources than just doing a routine save, or even quicksave.
In some situations in which I had a lot of repetitive activity, particularly lots of targeted spell effects on a creature, or even weapon blows on a creature, the game might crash on autosave. You can check to see if this is the case by looking at your save game folder at the last autosave file after the last crash. If its size is small compared to other regular saves, then that is your problem.
I solved this problem by turning off some (but not all) of the autosave instances in the options menu. Autosave is invaluable if you like to run around in sneak mode, as sometimes while running into a shop you accidentally touch something...in sneak mode it is considered stealing.
You will see a lot of posts on other forums in which people are basically describing the same problem: crashing on changing zones...it crashes when changing zone, because the game by default, autosaves when changing zones. Zone boundaries are often through doors and such, so some people talk about crashing on entering or leaving a room or dungeon. It is all the same problem. Probably a cache issue, but you can solve it by minimizing autosave.
I hear there is another way to keep this cache clear, but I never found the details. Turning off autosave while waiting was all I needed to do. Then I fast travelled a few times between zones...I suspected that worked just as well to clear the cache, because I never had much trouble with it again.
The program still crashes alot on exit, but at that point, I really don't mind. I hear that is also common, so common in fact, Bethesda removed the claim it fixed it in the last patch. They no longer make that claim.
