Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
I don't see how TES could become multiplayer.
I mean, your character is considered a part of the world. You can go up in guilds and complete quests, and it will effect something somehow. There wouldn't be an impact, and you wouldn't make any difference. It's like travelling from Seyda Neen to Balmora. Kill a few scribs along the way, but you didn't do anything. Or, in terms of Skyrim, the dragons were dead and then started respawning because of all the Dovahkiins playing.

Honestly I dont think you guys are thinking the right ideas. You guys are thinking of a skyrim mmo. We the people who are thinking about the multiplayer want private lobbys where you and your freinds can hang out in skyrim together not just random matchmaking.

Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
[&@%!] win, no'one suggested an MMO. at most a 4 player dungeon crawler not unlike diablo or PSO just in first person. randomized dungeons, randomized loot, not connected to the story at all. just a fun extra thrown in, to hell with the lore they can always just say the mp aspect was not canon.Offtopic wrote:Honestly I dont think you guys are thinking the right ideas. fancy lasers and plastic glocks are no match for a good .357 at your side kid

Mattbott wrote:though i prefer the idea of TES as one of the last great single player games around, i think there are games out there now which potentially show the way forward without going down the MMO route.
Basically, TES will always be console friendly at some level, so I'm talking about Red Dead and TDU2. Between them they have large single player elements plus the ability to casually join in with others online, whether you want to co operatively do missions/races (and indeed set race routes and challenges) or just sit around in a clubhouse and chat, which imo would be pretty cool for TES characters. TDU allows you to customise your character to a great degree far more than RDR and WOW, and being individual is more important imo than worries over who gets Umbra if it's a unique item.
just a thought
it doesnt have to be a MMO nightmare, it would require restructuring, which means you're not going to be centre stage but one of many heroes when you're online, but i would be pretty optimistic if eventually TES went this way.
co op dungeons, mages academy where you can go out the back and test new spells on undead targets, meet in the pubs for a chat and occasional bar room brawl (no weapons and armour allowed), trade items - which would include potions, spells, scrolls, armour and other items you would be able to craft/customise with the right skills

Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
First off I'd like to say hi as I'm new to the boards, secondly I'd like to apologise for my child like use of paragraphs etc since I am on my phone.
Now on the topic of multiplayer I wholeheartedly agree that TES games should stay single player. However, I do have an idea that might appeal to those of you who do not like the idea of multiplayer but do want some sort of online function.
Let's say they introduced a "Black market" in a certain part of the world where other players could have vendors. I don't mean actual players standing around at stalls, I mean if there was a static amount of vendors at this market ( Let's say six ) which could be occupied by six of the people on your friends list. This way you could sell mundane things like alchy ingredients or rare things like a dragon scale sword to the masses. All it would need is you pass the goods you want sold on the black-market to your npc "Handler" and people on your friends list see these new items when they visit THEIR black-market.
I always liked the idea of setting up an alchy shop in my house in oblivion but had no means to do it, this could be the answer. Other than this NO to multiplayer. Thanks for reading.

Hey that's actually a good idea.
I don't think Beth will implement it in Skyrim though. Welcome to the forums

seriusly guys i tought it was confirmed the "no multiplayer" in an european magazine, i think that in the nordic mag.
The guy who says about mmo, thats not the idea, just a 2 coop would be super super cool.
i think todd says something like "no, we want to focus in the 1 player experience" can someone confirm this?

Yes we see you little child, your like the kid in the back of a car crying " are we there yet? " whilst kicking the back of my seat...
We are discussing whether, number one, if we would like multiplayer in Skyirm, and two, if we had good enough ideas for future implementations like DLC.

Yes he said there was going to be no multiplayer, I understand this, but we were discussing potential ideas on how online systems COULD be implemented.

Whoah guys. We should be saving all this hostility for the Dremora.
In other news...I really...I'm not sure if multiplayer could be great for the main quest...but maybe if they release it as DLC, sort of...a "hidden realm with alternate versions of yourself", i.e, other "heroes" who went to that realm. People could trade equipment, could talk about mudcrabs and how the Dark Brotherhood recruits new members, and generally yell at each other to "STOP TALKING!"
Yeah, I see how it could work. Those wild, wacky Realms of Oblivion, right?

He responded to the bolded question. Their was no reason to be so patronizingly rude.The_Gray_Aegis wrote:Has there been any mention of the possibility of any form of multiplayer experience in the next addition to the Elder Scrolls series? I personally have not heard any mention of the possibility, but that would not surprise me since the vast majority of my information comes from this site and I cannot recall any mention of it on here.
So has there been even the shadow of a hint of multiplayer implicated?

Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
In other news a thread was derailed yesterday, wounding several posters. The posters have yet to get the thread back on track but efforts are now under way.
I don't have a problem with multiplayer so much as I have a problem with it in the Elder Scrolls Series. I'm the hero, not Weedman027, XxPipeLayerxX, and I. I guess I could ignore it if it was entirely optional. but with online games goes mod support, and without mods the game will go stale much more quickly in my opinion. I just see no way to get around the potential incompatibility problems caused by mods, meaning that I see this only being possible on the consoles. If it was only on the consoles PC players would complain, causing a problem for Bethesda. Not to mention all of the complaints about people using exploits to get ahead in online play, people complaining about the plenty of bugs, people saying that only real players play offline or online depending on what camp they are in.
Therefore I see it just causing more problems, problems that will only rip apart an otherwise extremely tight nit group of fans.

woah, things are getting heated up in this discussion
anyways, like a one on one battle sounds cool, like choose from a template character(guards, mages, assassins) and fight 1v1 on an arena, now thatd be cool but otherwise i dont see any other ways a multiplayer could work in skyrim.

Re: Multiplayer in Skyrim?
I think multiplayer is brilliant for games in which combat is the focus of the game, and although it does of course play a large role in the ES games I think the exploration of the vast world around your character is what makes the games so fun. I doubt the arena would be much good as a multiplayer mode, it would likely be very unbalanced unless the developers put a lot of work into it, which as someone previously stated would take time away from adding more/improving the singleplayer experience and result in less mod support. Mages would inevitably be king, unless there were seperate battles for wizards, warriors... etc and in conclusion development of a balanced multiplayer PvP mode would prevent the devs from making the singleplayer as enjoyable and immersive as possible.
Now, a co-op mode... That would be fun. Perhaps creating a co-op character and travel the world completing quests with 1 or 2 friends. However this would require lots of work in order to make quests compatible for co-operative play and I want singleplayer to be the best it can be. Maybe in the future. Maybe DLC. But as it's been confirmed that multiplayer is not in the game, i'd say if multiplayer were ever to be in ES it'll be in the game after Skyrim at its earliest.
