I wonder how this got revived without anyone shouting "NECRO-POST!"?

Re: Your Interesting/Odd thought of the day
I haven't really thought about anything today. My brain remained dead. Although I did have an extremely weird dream that is too faint to mention...

Re: Your Interesting/Odd thought of the day
I've just managed to break something on my guitar amp by forgetting about the basic principles of torque.
Motorists, particularly those who own diesel cars and are scrabbling around for something good to say about their horrible paraffin-burning stoves, love to talk about torque all the time without really knowing what it is. But I studied physics for A-level so I do know - it is essentially a force at a distance, which is why torque is always measured in pound-feet. A one-pound force applied to a lever whose pivot if one foot away will produce 1 lb ft of torque.
Onto my guitar amp now. I noticed that the input jack on my Fender Champ had lost its status as the only thing on the amp that isn't broken in some way, because it had worked itself loose. Guitarists will know that when the nut that holds a jack socket in place works loose, the whole assembly is at risk of suddenly making a break for freedom and falling into the bowels of the amp, guitar, pedal or whatever - try getting one out of a hollowbody electric at a gig 2 minutes before stage time...
So, I thought it would be best to tighten it up before anything bad happened, and to cut a long story short I managed to shear the entire jack, so I've meekly placed an order with Strings Direct to get a new one and the soldering iron will be coming out this weekend. Of course, this happened because I applied far too much force - the adjustable spanner that I used is about a foot long, and I probably applied about 60 pounds of force to the end of it to tighten the nut. This is 60 lb ft of torque, which is about the same you get from a Fiat 500. Now, had I thought about this I'd have realised that I didn't need a Fiat 500 to tighten a nut, but I didn't so I feel like a bit of a spanner myself now.

Evil in the way they'll go the length to protect themselves and those they care about? Sure.
Evil in the psychopath way? Don't think so.

Well,it's more of an animal that simply sees everything on the planet as a potential meal, than it is evil.

Not necessarily, animals don't have thinking, or morals, or any sense of our understanding.

Re: Your Interesting/Odd thought of the day
So when I catch my dog trying to tear a chunk out of the Christmas turkey and I yell at him and he looks at me guiltily and sinks onto his bed, that isn't an apology at all, but rather an unconscious act? I reckon animals display morals and emotions. There's my thought for the day.Generalno1 wrote: They're outside of morality

Re: Your Interesting/Odd thought of the day
My odd thought of the day is, isn't sleeping a pretty weird thing to do, when you think about it?
I mean, you go lay down somewhere warm and cozy (hopefully), and after a while, you lose your conscience. You then lie unconscious for several hours, while weird pictures conjured up by your brain is showed to you, and also being almost completely paralyzed (so that you won't run around and do the weird things your brain thinks about). You then wake up, with restored energy, and ready for another day (well, most of us anyway).
Isn't that a kinda bizarre concept? Might only be me, though.

Not really, because your heart still beat, you breathe, and your brain still functions.
You're just not aware of what's going on around you.

"Emily Dickinson's poetry is [&@%!] marvellous!"
Do I agree with this statement? If so,why do I find Emily Dickinson's poetry appealing? Support my point(s) with detailed reference to her poetry.

This is because your mind grows bored really easily. It needs something to do to pass the time. Eight hours is a long time you know.KalleFlaxx wrote:...while weird pictures conjured up by your brain is showed to you...

Haha, yeah, that's probably true. It's watching movies, and we only manage to catch some glimpses of it.Venger wrote:This is because your mind grows bored really easily. I wonder if Call of Duty got the idea for the Last Stand perk from the part in Saving Private Ryan...

Call of Duty got every single one of its ideas from every single war movie ever made. Saving Private Ryan, the Dirty Dozen, Enemy at the Gates, etc.Valus wrote:I wonder if Call of Duty got the idea for the Last Stand perk from the part in Saving Private Ryan...
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.
