In other news (and to be ontopic), I went shopping at the local Target today. I don't like it when there are clusters of people in one place. I start to see them more as one big pulsing mass than as individual individuals. That's when I start to feel annoyed with them. Humankind as a whole is an insensitive, rude ball of foul breath and greed, but individually, they are usually compassionate and intriguing.

1) Horsch wieners are no longer sold under the SM franchise and now have their own HM franchise.

2) David will be leaving the [censored] department at the end of March.

3) Due to this legal dispute, the [censored] department will not be able to submit any orders to Protectoplast until further notice.

4) Owing to several complaints from employees, a two-day lead time will now be given before heroin price changes.

5) When returning faulty girl friends to head office, please ensure it is sent in the correct packaging. If not, a blank box or carrier bag will suffice.

6) Komatsu have recently announced the development of a small-scale tunnel-fart machine.

These things bring the twelve year old out of me.

I had a Maths test today, as in the proper no-mockery 100% going to determine your future test. It was pretty easy, but there was one part where we were expected to work out the volume of a sphere and area of a circle on the non-calculator paper, meaning I didn't have access to pi and all those other fancy things that you kids take for granted these days. I still have no idea how the exam board expected us to work that one out, because we certainly haven't been taught it.

I have a feeling it's two thirds of the volume of the smallest cube it can fit in - so double the radius, cube it then work out what two thirds of that is. Easy to say with the benefit of hind legs, and that might just be for circles anyway.

On a related note, I missed out on a bit of controversy in my A-level Chemistry course because I was about the only person who didn't retake the Foundation Chemistry paper at the end of the 2nd year - I was quite happy with 87%. One of the questions in the retake asked what the displayed formula for Kevlar was, and no-one had a clue. It turns out that that question shouldn't have been in the exam, because Kevlar is a brand name and not a chemical name - from a chemical name you can more or less work out what it would look like drawn out, but Kevlar could be made up of neon atoms arranged in the shape of a gentleman sausage for all we were supposed to know. So, scapegoats were found, an apology was issued from the exam board and everyone got full marks for that question. Not bad going.

Take pi as being 22/7 would have been the easiest way. If the radius values you were given were whole numbers, then it wouldn't be very difficult.

Got my Honours Maths mock paper back today. 54% in paper one and 76% in paper 2. So 65% in total. Not too bad considering it was a mock paper and a very hard paper added to that.
Tell me,isn't there a pattern/connection between the mass placed on a spring and the reduction in length that follows?

I would not consider it difficult to multiply a number by 3.14. Most tests, if not all, generally accept the simple 3.14 version of pi, as the differences in answer you can get are so minute that they should simply be rounded to a single place. (Though, to multiply by a more exact value would give you a more accurate answer. This has actually been used to decide in some events. For example, 6.66% of votes is more accurate than 6.6%)

Hmm, maybe I should mention that the question specifically stated not to replace pi with a number for calculations. My guess would be that I had to leave pi out in the equations, and then just add the bits I couldn't calculate to the final answer.

My experience says that you leave it as π. If you're working out the volume you can leave it as a symbol, like x in a quadratic equation. If it's non-calculator, I don't think they want a numerical answer. If the answer is 5π, leave it as that. In my Stats module, I have to give answers as exact fractions - I'm not allowed to give numbers because they are rounded. I'm not very good at stats.

Talking of exams, my A level courses are now finished and all we are doing is revision. I've just got home from my two-and-a-half hour Russian mock in which the listening paper comprised some laughably slow language work on smoking, the reading was about drugs and sex, and the writing was about solving family problems. Why couldn't I do a nice language, like French, where you talk about rainbows and biscuits? My French oral GCSE last year was about a visit to a cookie factory. I kid you not.

That flies in the face of the fact that school language lessons should not teach you anything that would be useful should one ever go to that country. I did raise this issue with the head of modern foreign languages once - it took me three years of German before I learned how to ask for the bill, and yet in all my visits to the Fatherland the opportunity has never arisen to proclaim that "Ja, naturlich Atomkraft hat viele Sicherheitsrisiken" (Yes, of course nuclear power has many safety risks)

Oh, and I checked this: (it's been a boring day)
I have a feeling it's two thirds of the volume of the smallest cube it can fit in
And I was right. Going back to my first point, I think the basic findings of Archimedes should take precedent over sine/cosine/tangents and other pointless stuff that you're never going to use. Bloody curriculum.

No wonder the British army is fed up - their weaponry is so heavy! Did my weapon-handling test today, which is the one test in my life where less than 100% spells failure. When it came to disassembly and reassembly I was sure I was going to screw up, because I'd never done it properly in the practices and there's one part of the gas mechanism where if you screw it on the wrong way a little chunk of metal plops off, falls in the gas cylinder and disrupts the rifle's operation. It has to be sent back to the MOD where they drill a hole in it to get it out! Welcome to lowest-bidder engineering. Anyway, fate must have been smiling on me for that suspenseful couple of minutes because the operation was a complete success, and I even got all of my bullets to hit the target when I fired off a whole magazine of 30 rounds which is one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done. So now I get to shoot things in two weeks time when I go on a night exercise!

Remember to take the ramrod out before firing a Brown Bess.

Of course, if you were a Royal Marine firing from the tops, you would be resigned to simply tap the butt on the perch in the hopes that the ball packed down the charge.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Today I discovered that I won a free happy hour at a bar in NYC, where I can bring several friends to drink for dirt cheap while I mooch off the bar in all my glory. As if that weren't splendid enough, I was invited to spend my Saturday with someone who interrupted me in a conversation by saying, "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but I'm going to go play Morrowind."

I think I'm in love.

Went back to the vets. Always smells funny.
Cat got her stitches out- Which means the assistant snipped the knot then pulled them out. Could've done it with a knife at home. And it cost a fiver. lol
Was gonna get jabs, but apparently the cold she has does matter so now she got this white powder that I'm to mix with water, makes it turn very pink.
And now I'm starting to feel a little iffy, not normally so tired this early.

Today was a mixed day. Started off horribly, with my Russian speaking exam first thing. My teacher told me that it was encouraging to see that I was able to talk solidly for eight minutes in a foreign language, but my impression was one of a complete disaster. I'd been harping on about the dangers of smoking for a minute or so, when I was interrupted by 'Почему люди курят?' - 'Why do people smoke?' I froze for a second, started with 'Ну, может быть, они ...' - 'Well, maybe they...' then completely broke down and lost my train of thought, put my head in my hands and sighed. We quickly moved on to the next point, but not before the awkwardness was complete.

Then I went shooting, which was fun. Scored 98 with a defective rifle.

Then I came home and went on Minecraft, only to find that the same guy who'd been griefing our base yesterday was online. I told him that if he didn't get out I'd force him out, only to have the server mods get on my back about it and tell me to stop being rude to him. Seriously? You'd ignore your own bloody anti-griefing laws just because I'm an 'outsider'? Well then, guess I won't be coming back here any time soon. So now my new favourite game has been ruined.

My whole weekend will be spent in London designing fictional space doohickeys that will probably exist in the year 2071. The whole weekend. As in, I'm on the train at 7 tomorrow morning and get back about that time in the evening on Sunday, meaning I spend a lot of time on Google Sketchup and not much at all on my homework. Still, should be fun. Even if I do have to live off Red Bull for the duration.

Snowboarding tonight was fun, as good as I expected, we only got to actually go on the slope for 45 minutes or so, but I was expecting even less time, so I didn't mind. The instructor there was very helpful as well. I lost direction, shuffled down and fell over a lot, but I was doing it a bit less than my friends, and he said I've picked up a lot for a small session a the end, so I'm happy. And as Kalle foretold, my bum really hurts.

Give whoever was late a good slap, you need at least an hour. Sometimes I go for three hours (for just £30!) and come home acting out the cliché 'tired but happy'. As Kalle, said, worth it, though. It's a shame I won't be able to go this weekend, since I'll be stuck in that slab of concrete they call a capital city.

I hope you feel better real soon, Dark Lord! That's never fun. :(

Today I am kicking my writer's block in the behind by setting up a schedule for writing. I figure if I make it a habit perhaps it will flow easier in the future. We'll certainly see. But more importantly, I secured myself tickets to go see Monty Python's Spamalot after I get back from my business trip. Can't wait!
