The Legendary Offtopic, Offtopic Thread.

Post by Dark Lord Cam »

NEW RULES:

After much deliberation with the other mods, we have come to the conclusion that the offtopic thread has become too spammy. I don't quite understand how you guys pulled that off but because of it, we are now laying down some ground rules to ensure that this thread actually accomplishes something meaningful and is not a place to just come and drag mud into the house. The forum is our home after all, and we do not want any one thread turning into a mudslinging pig pen fest. I admit that I myself took part in some of these outbursts of spam. That will no longer happen. The moment I, or another mod, detect a single sign of spam we will give a a friendly warning. If you fail to follow our recommendations, we will give a real warning.

First: Even though this is the offtopic thread, we encourage you guys to speak meaningfully and in full sentences. Even if a topic only lasts for 5 minutes, there must be meaningful discussion and not a bunch of "Yay! Give me stuff" and "Thermodynamics!" posts.

Second: No blank posts. These are annoying and add nothing at all to the thread.

Third: No one word replies.

Fourth: Respect the rules here and already in place for the forum. This thread is merely a privilege. We can, and we will, remove it if we feel that it becomes a breeding ground for site rule violations.

So I may have not gotten to post on the 1000th page, because it got locked.
But I got the first page of this, which I think is better :)
I guess I had better get some sleep now.

Well, I have now seen the rise and fall of two one thousand page topics. I feel old.

Haha, that would have been such a win. Also I just realized that I had the last post in the original OOT before Darkie's locking post.

Well, quindecuple means 15, as in I'd have taken up the entire page. Kind of like double posting, but 15.

That little .gif will make looking at hello kitty so much more bearable in the future. Also, I have never been educated on Old One linguistics, so, sorry, can't help you there.

EDIT: Here's some info from HowStuffWorks:
Spoiler:
So how the heck are you supposed to pronounce Cthulhu's name? Lovecraft said that the language of the Old Ones wasn't compatible with human speech, and so any attempt by man to pronounce Cthulhu's name would at best be an approximation. Lovecraft was inconsistent when suggesting ways to pronounce the name, but the most cited example is "khûl-lhoo," with a guttural vocalization on the first syllable. The most popular pronunciation among Cthulhu fandom seems to be "kuh-THOO-loo."
