Anyone else gonna try to make their character fat?

Post by NDirishKC »

With the new character development system we're promised, I really hope we have the option to make ourselves fat :Twisted Evil: It seems almost unnatural that everyone is so skinny, NPC's included. I want to see fat people around and I want my character to be fat. I want my character to be so fat that they lose their breath when running (okay, maybe not THAT fat lol, but you get the idea) Skyrim should be filled with people of all shapes and sizes! Anyone else with me?! :D

I am all for being able to customize as much as possible, but maybe not to the extent you'r talking about :P

Yes I would like it for both PC and NPCs to come in various shapes and forms. It sucked that in Oblivion, every single person was a body builder.

Kind of off topic, kind of not, in that picture with the tavern and the waitress, there is a very beefy bartender behind her. May indicate a body-changing thing.

I like to justify the fact that everyone was skinny in Oblivion with a few things. No McDonalds on Nirn. Less fatty foods chocked full of preservatives. People generally worked harder, as there were no cars, tractors or machines to do the work. The only fat people were typically nobility.

Whilst you have a point, Redguard, the aesthetic uniformity of NPC's in RPG's - as well as the lack of children in most - has been a failing of the genre since forever. Dragon Age did a fairly good job of mixing things up more than most, but Mass Effect's future was worryingly identikit, and the TES's are similarly full of clones.

But perhaps, you'd say, Mass Effect presents a future where obesity and poor nutrition has been eliminated? That could make sense (just as your observation on Oblivion does make sense), but it still feels unconvincing, as far as a believable, cohesive gameworld goes. It's very easy to design a stock NPC model of male and female, then clone them into the world and retexture a few of 'em (old, young, skin tone etc). Creating unique NPC's to populate a TES game would be a tricky thing. But - like in Dragon Age - picking and choosing certain NPC's to present more variety and believabilty isn't that hard at all.

Personally, re body size? A fat, binge drinking bufoon was perfect for Fable's anarchic world... but TES's aren't known for their humour, and, as such, a fat hero or heroine wouldn't really 'fit' into Skyrim's harsh world. Besides, if the Nerevarine had had a weight issue, he'd/she'd still be stuck halfway up Red Mountain, struggling for breath...

I agree with you completely, which is why I felt a need to justify this to myself.

I'd never use that option, but I fully support it being there for those who want it.

My characters are all gonna be body builders. Fat NPCs are fine, but the hero has to be fit for long treks and fighting. IMO a pot-bellied viking warrior would be too comical.

Since I'm probably going to start with a mage, I'd prefer to have a pallid, less-muscled hero, the kind of guy who looks like he spends all day reading books in a windowless tower.

More importantly, I support the possibility of having NPCs in the game world who are not of an identical physique.

"Yo check it... your character's so fat, the game ran out of pixels"

Yeah, I'm in agreement with having full customization that mirrors real society.

I'm also for regionalized obesity... they could call it Skyrimississippi.

I find the body customation feature absolutely amazing. But then again, regarding overweight characters there is a simple feature I'd have to go through.
  • 1. Swear to myself I will only make realistic characters, (for example, levitating overweight argonians are a big no-no.
  • 2. Get bored and make a new character, thusing birthing the overweightness.
-

Although I doubt the body customation will go so far as to the extent of making overweight characters, I imagine plump and beer bellied characters would be typical to bartenders/bar goers and plum shapes typical to those of nobility. But there aint no Macca's or Hungry Jacks, so I really don't see (unless there was some weird, nercomantic, preying mantis man -or whatever-) the need to have obese customation.
How could a sane person live in this world and not be crazy?
