Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
Did the dwarves ever inhabit Skyrim? I loved the Dwemer ruins/enemies in Morrowind and was sad to see that they weren't in Oblivion.

Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
They had fortresses in Hammerfell and Morrowind, but I don't think the Dwemer ever reached Skyrim. I guess they could always get a mention though. I'd personally like to see a Dwemer/Falmer hybrid set of dungeons.

Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
It'd be cool if they added an easter-egg dungeon with Dwemer stuff near the border with Vvardenfell. If nothing else, it'd be a welcome lore-fan-service little detail.

Maybe one or two, but no big presence like in Morrowind.

Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
I suspect the Falmer will play the same role as the Dwemer in Morrowind and the Ayleids in Oblivion. They may or may not actually be extinct, but we know for sure that their civilisation was destroyed by the Nords, which could provide some nifty ruins to explore.

Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
So, have you guys seen the newest Todd Howard interview from Game Informer? He explicitly says that the residents of Skyrim have inhabited ancient Dwemer ruins and built their cities there. Awesome. I loved the aesthetic of the Dwemer ruins in Morrowind, it'll be sweet to see them rendered with modern tech and mashed up with Nord-style architecture.
Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
There were also a couple of shots of a few posters on a wall, during that interview, that showed some pretty awesome cities, or parts of cities, from a distance.tobascodagama wrote:So, have you guys seen the newest Todd Howard interview from Game Informer? Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
Yes, well, you could kind of see it coming. The presence of Dwemer structures in Skyrim, I mean. It wouldn't make much sense if the Dwemer only inhabited Hammerfell and Morrowind/Vvardenfell, the two places being on opposite sides of the continent. I guess you could get around it somehow, but this seems the most logical thing to do.
More Dwemer stuff, yay!

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a pretty strong presence of Dwemer structures, since the clan of Dwemer that left in self exile had to have crossed Skyrim to reach Hammerfell.

Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
Considering that the centurion sentry, or whatever they're called (I'll just call them ball-dudes) are making a comeback from Morrowind, I'm fairly certain we'll be seeing Dwemer artifacts, cities etc etc. I'm just hoping we'll run into a real Dwemer. A healthy one.
It wouldn't make sense to have a mountanious region like Skyrim without a dwarven presence now would it, laddies?

I used to make polls, but then I took an arrow in the knee.
Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
Hmmm i'm not sure this could happen. Todd Howard said in a recent interview that he loves having mysteries in TES lore, and i believe he cited the dwemer as an example. I'd love to know all their story as well as finding one of them alive, but at the same time i think that keeping some things shrouded in mystery makes TES's lore feel so appealing and rich.Rhcpftw wrote:Considering that the centurion sentry, or whatever they're called (I'll just call them ball-dudes) are making a comeback from Morrowind, I'm fairly certain we'll be seeing Dwemer artifacts, cities etc etc. I'm just hoping we'll run into a real Dwemer. Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
I agree, I love mysteries as well (except when they are like the ones in KOTOR 2 - ask 50 000 questions and answer three, and then never talk about it again. Ever.) but having that "last dwarf" in Morrowind didn't ruin it one bit, in my opinion. It actually just made me more curios.JJSmart wrote:Hmmm i'm not sure this could happen. Anyway, I'm REALLY excited for the Animunculi (sphere guys) and other Dwemer artifacts. Its going to be cool seeing the people who live in the remnants of a Dwemer town.

Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
He probably meant the clanking sounds you heard all the time in the Dwemer dungeons of Vvardenfell. Lore is pretty clear on it, it's the steam-powered machinations of the Dwemer, still working - without maintenance - after thousands of years.Fist wrote:Um what?LORD RALMAY wrote:yes the dwemer ruins were always fun to explore whats with the weird noise i am the only one tht hears that

Who else would be the masterminds behind the dreaded Techno-viking?

It would be kinda cool if there was..dunno, a... like joined dwarven society, undergrond like the deep roads in (sorry, sorry, sorry) Dragon Age
that they constructed after the nords overrun them. The above ground ruins are like conduits maybe.

It can easily be understood that you didn't play morrowind. Dwemers are way more cooler than ayleids.thepigclub wrote:I would prefer Alyieds rather than Dwemer.

Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
I'm hoping that we'll still get Falmer/Nordic ruins even though the Dwemer are back. I think each province should get its own ancient civilisation, not just rip off another one.
Hopefully Skyrim's ruins will be able to answer some of the questions left over from Morrowind about the disappearance of the Dwarves.

I think it would make sense to have a few Ayleid ruins close to the border of Cyrodiil. With eight devs working on dungeons I'm sure we'll get a lot of variety.thepigclub wrote:I would prefer Alyieds rather than Dwemer.

I have played both and prefer Alyieds. I prefer Old and mystical to old 'technological'. Ye olde technology kind of vibe always jars a little for me.Darth South wrote:It can easily be understood that you didn't play morrowind. Re: Dwemer presence in Skyrim?
I must say that I would like it most if there are not only 1 or 2 sorts of ruins. There could be Ayleid ruins near the border of Cyrodiil, near the border to morrowind there could be a few dwemer buildings, maybe one big city ruin and in the cold nord I hope for Falmer ruins and over the country destroyed castles and forts, maybe 2-3 ghost cities that would be a nice mix!
