Grrr evil Arrow on Compass! It's not like there was any way to get rid of it, by say putting up a quest with no arrow!

Re: Fast Travel?
I thought I explained it well enough on why I dislike the arrow, becasue in Morrowind I got instructions on where to find something. many missions in Oblivion gave me no instructions what-so-ever on how to find someone. I tried it for a bit and I ended up on a mission that didn't even tell me that my target wasn't even in the town. that's the end of my attempt, it's nigh impossible to find some targets on some missions.
there are many missons that were clearly not made to be finished without the arrow. am I right?
P.S. I normally try to stop myself from sounding too obnoxious but I've seen you make that reply on a few threads already and I can only assume that someone made a reply like mine.

Re: Fast Travel?
Surelt having fast travel as an option suits all camps use it or don't it up to you that way. I tended to use a bit of both and going cross country to find places led to discovering things I wouldn't of otherwise (the toll bridge for example). So people who don't use fast travel do get rewards for there efforts.
I think a fast travel system something like that in red dead would work well. For those who haven't played you could get transport by stagecoach or train(to the main cities) and you could either sit and enjoy the journey or choose to 'sleep' till you destination. Obviously the modes of transport should change i doubt anyone wants steam trains in oblivion! So bring back stilt walkers and have boats and horse and carts, those who want to walk or ride everywhere can, those who want faster transport but not fast travel can and those who want fast travel have it too. everyone should be happy! + 'sleeping' through a journey would let people keep in role play!

I had periods that I could game 16 hours a day.The Tourist wrote:"Only" eight hours? Are you kidding?theo1170 wrote:they better not get rid of it!, I only get 8 hours on the PS3 to play on some days...That's a massive chunk of one day for gaming.
OT: Well in my opinion, fast travel breaks a bit of the game. Without it, every trip is more of an adventure, even though long travels can get boring some time. I wish there was an answer between yes and no.

OT: I really don't see them abandoning fast travel, but as has been said before on this thread, if you don't like it don't use it.
It would be nice though if there were alternatives that enabled faster movement round the map, but helped keep the immersion...

I agree. They should keep fast travel, but for those who like to walk, they could add boats/carriages/something like a silt strider

Re: Fast Travel?
I don't mind fast travel, they can keep in the point to point travel so far as I'm concerned, but I really want a method of travel that makes sense in the game. Oblivion didn't have this, and without a method to travel this left you on foot going everywhere. Yes, there were horses, but we all know the horses were useless, slow, and put you at a horrible combat disadvantage.
So they can keep the teleportation, but give me an alternative please!

Re: Fast Travel?
I hope they leave in fast travel.
As long as its an option, i can choose to use it, or walk/run to my destination.
To me, when im doing quests, fast travel can be nice, especially if im not in the role playing mode

Re: Fast Travel?
Yes, it's been comfirmed by gameinformer that there WILL be fast travel availible in Skyrim. Also, in the interview with Todd Howard he was asked about mounting dragons or mammoths and he responded by saying that he didn't want to talk about mounts "yet." This insinuates that there will probably be a lot more than just getting on a horse. Personally I think it would be awesome (and fast) to take a dragon somewhere, just saying
Re: Fast Travel?
Ah yes, mounting dragons.

Re: Fast Travel?
the problem with flying in any game is what happens when you get to the end of the world, and if youre on a dragon which suddenly goes "bonk" when he hits an invisible barrier at full speed , all that immersive exhilaration you were enjoying suddenly leaves you
skyrim isnt an island so it will be a challenge avoiding this issue
i'm glad fast travel has been confirmed for this game tho, one of the main reasons people i know find fallout and tes unnecessarily tedious is that you usually have to walk everywhere at least once lol

Re: Fast Travel?
I just hope fast travel being in doesn't exclude a travel system and teleportation spells. I always use fast travel in Oblivion, because besides for the main quest, walking the same long distances again, and again gets boring. Plus, it adds an extra layer of immersion with a more detailed world. And I hope all quests are not based on the fact that you can get almost anywhere instantly like in OB...

Re: Fast Travel?
This is the problem with the "just don't use it" comments. The game is very clearly designed around the assumption that you'll use fast travel, as many of the quests send you from one end of the map to the other and back. This is fine, but without a "real", reasonable way of getting there, or at least closer, you're forced to use the immersion breaking fast travel.Stendarr wrote:I just hope fast travel being in doesn't exclude a travel system and teleportation spells. Re: Fast Travel?
This. I tried never using fast travel in Oblivion, but gave up during that one Fighters Guild quest which has you running back and forth between Bravil and Chorrol. Now the only time I walk is during the Main Quest, or early in the game to new cities (which limits me to the ones I've already visited, and saves places like Anvil and Leyawiin for later on). The pre-placed fast travel markers annoy the heck out of me. The towns should definitely be marked, but it should be like New Sheoth where you have to actually get there by foot first.Symphonic wrote:The game is very clearly designed around the assumption that you'll use fast travel, as many of the quests send you from one end of the map to the other and back. I'm amazed that I never thought of this! Wow, now I realize that I really wasted my life arguing with people over the internet about how fast travel lowered the immersion of the game- thanks Blackfire!Blackfire wrote:Dont like fast travel, dont use fast travel. SIMPLE!
Im a genius!
In short, I have nothing against fast travel, and I'll use it from time to time should I get bored of the purdy scenery.

Re: Fast Travel?
It's been said a million times already... fast travel omits realistic transportation systems. I do hope however they base it around realistc transport systems like in Daggerfall (but you have the option to go by foot/horse) so everybody gets what they want.
Re: Fast Travel?
Some new info on fast travel in IGN Todd Howard interview here.
Here is the quote:
Here is the quote:
So some variation in there! Thank God!IGN: For getting around the world, what methods will be available? Fast-traveling, and if so is it the same system from Oblivion? Horse riding? Any other travel options, such as something similar to the silt striders from Morrowind?
Todd Howard: If you've been to a location before you can fast travel back. We also have a carriage system that can take you to some major locations that you haven't been yet, so it's a bit of a mix.

Don't like fast travel = don't use it. It's not like it brainwashes you and makes you fast travel, so what's so bad about it?VirtualWeasel wrote:Fast travel sucks. It takes a huge realistic essence from the game.
