But was Talos not of Nordic descent?

How did Alessia get traced all the way down to the Septims?

I am pretty sure somewhere in that long family tree a branch fell off and got lost. Perhaps a beginning of a 5th area? Too fast for a new Emperor. If you are going to take 200 years, and build a story in between that mentions the destruction of Vvardenfell, then I don't think there should be an Emperor. Either one should have been made within 50 years, or not for 1,000.

Question about the announcements on the Wiki: Did the Empire not already collapse? Did I interpret the things I have been reading wrong? TES timeline on the wiki told me all the provinces seceded about 4E 25 ish and Black Marsh conquered Morrowind (something I don't think very many of us saw coming.)

Which source is more reliable at this time?

I haven't had time to read every post, but anyone do an analysis on the antagonists?

Our we sure they are dragons only? Has anyone from Bethesda actually stated that the language is that of Dragons?

According to the 14 page article in gameinformer:

The death of the Septims, who appeared to be the last of the dragonborn at that time ("appeared to be"), along with the return of Alduin is supposed to be the end of the third era, and the collapse of the original empire. I'm thinking that a new dynasty/empire will be build as the 4th era is ushered in.

And yes, its the language of the dragons. Its "Draconic", as the article calls it. Your character will begin to learn this language (or rather "remember" it, in a way), discovering the power that he is able to wield through it.

So, perhaps the quest is to convince the Dragons of your shared blood with Alessia and Akatosh?
Negotiations of a sort? Maybe some greater threat lurking out there?

Oh, btw, where did a Nord learn to read the Elder Scrolls?

It would seem the player may become the new ruler, but Bethesda doesn't have the "let them become a god" sense of developing, from what I see.

the dragonborn is a kind of class, they are dragon hunters, at the begining of the game you can choose be maybe the last of the dragon borns trained by one of the last blades or you can choose be a common character.

so maybe the dragonborn will be the only class of skyrim :/

No classes in Skyrim! Much to the dismay of many.
Pretty sure "Dovahkiin" is gonna be like Morrowind's "Nerevarine", although i would certainly hope there's a twist somewhere in the story.

yea there are no clases but in game informer says that dragon borns are dragon hunters, and well then is a profession and the professions are a kind of class (like archers, soldiers, warriors, etc) it isnt properly a class but is a kind of profession that was im saying.

Oh no, i was just saying that being a dragon hunter, i think, won't be optional. (That's what i was trying to say by comparing it to Morrowind's Nerevarine)
Well...unless you just ignore the main quest!

oh ah sorry i didnt undrstand you, my mother language isn't the english but well i think that beign the dragonborn is actually optional, acording to the game informer february magazine, well im not so sure but it says: "You may be the dragonborn" then if my english isnt that bad "may" means that it can happen or don't.

I think they said "You may be the dragonborn" to hint that you will, in fact, be the dragonborn. Then again, you might be right, though i don't see Bethesda branching the game in such a fundamental way.
Also, english isn't my first language either so... been there!

Pretty sure they straight up say in the magazine you ARE a dragon born. What you 'may' be is the last one.

I cant find where it says "your hero is the dragonborn" as you said and well if it says "As the game begins, your hero may be the last one left" i understand that you can be "the last one left" (the last dragonborn) or not.

so its the same thing xD im still thinking that beign the dragon born is optional.

but well:

it can be a clue or hint as JJSmart says.

the real fact is that we can't know it right now xD

"Your hero may be the last one left" clearly reads as:
"You are one but you may be the last one." - As in you definately ARE one. I don't really think there's much debate here. No offense, but your misunderstanding probably comes from how others lagnuages handle grammer compared to English.

I don't think we have a choice.

We ARE the Dragonborn, whether we like it or not.

Hopefully, though, the game will let us abandon the MQ and do whatever we please. Maybe I would like to finish all the other quests in the game before taking care of the MQ?

okay I've been thinking for a while and I have a weird off the wall theory. In the nordic pantheon Alduin (akatosh) is a god of destruction just as much as he is one of creation, and I read (I think on the Alduin's wall on gameinformer) that he was freed during the oblivion crisis. (Martin fusing himself with the blood of a divine to become an avatar of akatosh). so what if these dragons are aedra? maybe they are previously unknown servents of the aedra (specifically Akatosh) that have come back to enact some sort of revenge. and the dragonborn (usually associated with Talos and the emperors) has to stop these aedriadic invaders.......What a twist that would be.

If these dragons are servants of the Aedra, maybe it could lead to a conflict within the Gods! Would be a nice twist i think..

We (our character) IS the dragonborn, theres no choice in the matter.

If there was, it would be near impossible to kill dragons (As dragonborns have the power to kill them.)

Or be able to speak the dragon words of power (Which sort of off topic, are going to be AWESOME!)

I'm pretty sure it is. The game isn't going to care if you abandon the MQ to be something else, like a farmer or head of a guild. It just won't advance the MQ unless you're ready.

It's not a linear game where you're forced to only do the MQ. That's the beauty of the Elder Scrolls games. You don't have to do the MQ at all. You can forget about Esbern and his little problem. Roleplay that someone else is the Dragonborn saving the world and you're just an average citizen. That's what I'll do once I figure out how to buy a house and run a farm or something.

Oblivion named you Champion of Cyrodill, yet did it not also allow you to go do whatever you pleased? To ignore the emperor's wishes?

I don't think all the Dragons will be quest specific, just like not all the Oblivion gates were quest specific.

There are 20(?) dragons and each one you kill gives you their soul, which gives you a new Dragon Shout: like slowing down time or pushing back enemies.

Yep its going to be awesome. The things I'm wondering is how they work, magazine says they are made up of three words from the Dragon Language. But how do you use them? Are they equipped like a regular spell? Will they be like Greater Powers, where you can only use them once a day?

If there are 20 Dragon shout effects and each is made up of 3 "words", considering that order doesn't matter, there can be 6 words total (20 possible non-repeated combination of 3). Each word could have a cooldown so that you can't spam spells, but you can use 2 at the same time.
