Fallout style customization?
Fallout sucked when it came to the Character customization... I hope they don't implement it into Skyrim... It would make the game most... distasteful.
Also, what do you hope to see with Character Customization?

Re: Fallout style customization?
Actual skin color choosing (within reason; Imperials, Bretons, Bosmer and Nords on the "Jersey Shore to basement dweller" spectrum, High elves more yellow tinted, Redguards from light copper to full-on blue-black, Orcs green to yellow, Dunmer grey to black, Khajiit and Argonians whatever appropriate color I damn well please), height and body shape, face shape a lot like Oblivion, and more hair style choices with less color customization (my gold-furred Khajiit shouldn't be able to have black hair, and there are no blond-haired Dunmer).

Re: Fallout style customization?
Height and weight would be cool, although then we'd have Bosmer trying to be normal size.

I'm sure there would be certain restrictions to make sure we wouldn't have abnormally tall bosmer and really short altmer.Nevastar wrote:Height and weight would be cool, although then we'd have Bosmer trying to be normal size.

As much as keeping to lore is nice, I can't argue with the red ork. I'm dragonborn I'm allowed to be special.

Re: Fallout style customization?
I would like the area in which you customize your character to be a little more appropriate. In Oblivion, it was in the dark, so you could finish up your character thinking they've got a reasonably middle-toned skin color only for them to leave the tutorial and suddenly be revealed as pasty white or pinkish. Also, has anyone noticed it's nigh impossible to match the color of your face to the color of the rest of your body? Because no matter how hard I try, I always leave the sewer with a face several shades lighter than my body - when it catches the light properly it reflects light better than a friggin' mirror.

Re: Fallout style customization?
the best character creation would be one like the sims 3 has. Light place, many skin collors, totally customizable face and shape

i agree with the guy that mentioned skin color, have a few appropriate skin tones to choose form and then be able to edit them further.

As long as we have some awesome beard selections, and different body types, I'll be happy.

Re: Fallout style customization?
I think they will implement the expediency of the Fallout 3/NV customization that is to say values will be written out along with more clearer definitions for what feature you are adjusting, beards will be in a menu pf 3D renders rather than relying on you to adjust values to lower the color of the face to 'paint' facial hair, and hopefully elsewhere in Skyrim you will be able to further adjust your hair/facial hair throughout the world.
As for the customization in general, I think it the aspects of customization will be in accordance with race (Wood Elves being diminutive while Nords being stoic and tall) but as for weight, muscularity, age, (curviness for women?) you will be able to adjust within the bounds of standards.
In terms of customization elsewhere, I've heard rumors of there being tailors in the cities and I'm really hoping that clothing/armor can be customized and possibly created from wolf/bear/lion pelts and could later be sold for high dollar. I mean, I know we're all in for slaying dragons and such aethetics don't really apply to overall gameplay but it would still be a nice touch.

Re: Fallout style customization?
As far as armor goes, I've noticed a steady decline in terms of armor customization. Like, morrowind had the option to wear different gloves / gauntlets, boots, pants, clothing underneath armor, and so on. Oblivion lost the right glove left glove and just had gauntlets, and also no clothes under armor. Ok no big deal. Fallout 3 & Fallout NV roll out with these 'outfits'. I sure don't want to be limited in my customization, and that's exactly what fallout did. One outfit covers your whole body. Bleh, let me wear different boots, pants, armor, gloves, etc. But really what I'm hoping for is all NPCs to be named. In Fallout 3 & NV you get all these nameless npcs that just mutter something when you try to talk to them. If someone has a name in fallout, it's a pretty good chance that they have a quest associated with them. How boring is that? Even if you're just chatting up about glarthir it's still a nice way to make the game more realistic. I hope they keep Skyrim consistent with the other games in that regard.

Morrowind also had pauldrons (left and right), which i lovedPinballWizard wrote:As far as armor goes, I've noticed a steady decline in terms of armor customization. And let's be fair here, Fallout has nothing to do with the Elder Scrolls series. Whatever happens to one doesn't have to happen to the other. And finally, New Vegas was developed by Obsidian Entertainment (only published by Bethesda) and had a whole other team, director, etc...
I'm not saying you're wrong though (although i certainly hope so!). You may be correct in this tendency, but i think it's not fair to measure the TES series based on a different game by the same team and another game that they had nothing to do with.
Re: Fallout style customization?
Fallout 3 and New Vegas use the system of having outfits because that's what the previous games did, not because Bethesda was simplifying things. Just saying this so people don't get too fearful. For example, here is a list of every piece of armour in Fallout 2:

So, does this mean that Skyrim won't be set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland full of radiation?Cactus wrote:Fallout 3 and New Vegas use the system of having outfits because that's what the previous games did, not because Bethesda was simplifying things. Re: Fallout style customization?
Spoilers:
Incidentally yes. See, after Morrowind blew up it threw ash everywhere and everyone died except for the ones in underground vaults. You play someone from Vault 13 who has to look for a water bucket to replace the one that Timmy dropped down the well. Once outside you come across The Master who is a powerful necromancer with a giant zombie army, an orc city underneath the capital city, and a powerful high-tech group who search for lost technology known as Brotherhood of Swords, or BoS. Eventually you find a water bucket, meet a talking tree, and return to your vault only to find everyone's been turned to zombies. You destroy the master, resurrect the lost dwemer race, and sink Summerset into the sea. You then live our your final days in a small tribe outside your old vault. The end.

P.S: Now you made me want to play Fallout 2 again, and i don't have it anymore!

Ive read that you can customize the body, and that there WILL be facial hair.
Hopefully better facial hair then Fallout 3 and Vegas.

Re: Fallout style customization?
I think they should add an element where you can recreate a past character's looks by code or whatnot. For example, in ME-2 there was a face code for every character you made. I'm not saying that they should use THIS, but something along these lines.
