Romances would be an interesting addition, but then it starts the whole Sims type side to the game. I'd much rather be fighting and adventuring than making my pixels court other pixels for amusement. Sure, it'd be cool for roleplaying, but I'd just prefer it if they didn't go down that road.
As for mature content, it'd just be awkward. It'd probably be amusing for 10 seconds but then you just get tired of it, and then it's useless. Like romance, it's just irrelevant. And for a company, it's not worth it for the amount of controversy things like that reap.

Romance should add to the emotional enjoyment of the game. Have deep characters, with variable looks. You come home wasted and start playing Skyrim, meet some chick, and eventually fall in love. Not real love, of course. It is easy to have two different types, one real, and one when your in character. Add relationships, but let them be optional. Of course, relationships can be interesting, like if you add a mission to seduce some assassin or something, and then your boy/girlfriend hears, and tension occurs... to achieve that is to blow gamers away, while the dungeon divers do their job, your'e saving the world with your girlfriend. It would add so much to the game.

Word.

What does it bring to the game, really? Apart from making the game awkward for younger players when their parents walk past. Unless I can bring with me to go and bust some Goblins up, just no.

I would love romances, and even more mature content. If you dont like it, dont use it, its simple

But I would love to be able to have a companion.

And I would like there to be complete freedom.

Such as homo stuff

I dont wanna live my real life in the game...

I wanna be a super powerful lizard man with a bid sword that can jump a thousand feet from a cliff and not die.

Wouldn't hacking a slashing get a bit one sided? I mean killing bandits is fun and all, but what if us role-players want to settle down and be with the NPC we love (Don't take that literally). In Oblivion there's plenty of NPC's that could've been applicable for such a role, Dar-ma, your maid in the Skingrad house and so on.

Also:

Well said, in a role-playing game we get to play out the character we want and have a multi-directional storyline suited to our play style.
Sonixboom wrote: keep it all hacky and slashy. dont give us any of that love crap like in mass effect
Oh,... That kinda goes against the whole RPG motive. Just having a straight forward killing game isn't really an RPG, more of a game like God of War or Darksiders.

The only way that romance can work is if your characters influence over another is the result of natural conversation and the choices that you make in that conversation and not some mini-game. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and KOTOR were all games that handled the conversation--->romance option really well. Fable is an example of how not to do romance: do some silly moves in a mini-game, and suddenly a heart appears over someone's head.

Somebody above mentioned the feeling of romantic tension and THAT is exactly what makes a good romance, that feeling of "what if I don't say the right thing?"

It's not your real life, that's the whole point. :P
The epitome of escapism.

Besides, it'd be optional.
Your lizardman who can jump off of cliffs on a big sword doesn't have to even look at the skirt and trousers.

If they give more options in who your partner can be, while keeping it in a Mass Effect style romacin' then it'd be perfect, but I dunno if that's possible since the romance with NPCs in ME was (Almost) the crescendo of your missions together, and, discounting Jauffre and Martin, which characters were with you through the entirity of Oblivion? (Main quest*)
There'd have to be some varied recurring faces, but hopefully keeping the babysitting companion missions to a minimum.

There has been lots of mature content in TES

-Sirens' Deception quest
-Lucien Lachance getting his weewee eaten off
-The Real Barenziah: Daggerfall Edition
-I don't think there was any female monster / Daedric Lord that was fully clothed in Daggerfall
-Nudity was probably intended to be in Oblivion, since the rating was changed from Teen to Mature when modders found out that the nude models had already been included in the game files
-Crassius Curio!

I'm OK with content like that in Skyrim, as long as it's done somewhat tastefully like in Heavy Rain, as opposed to Fahrenheit... Silly David Cage.

Romance?? Not for me. I like to role play doing things that I cant in real life, like frying some goblin with a fire spell, or cleaving my way through some bandits with a sword. Romance and relationships just dont interest me in a game.

On that technical note, you can cleave through people with a sword in real life..

Just because you don't think you'll use it, having the option wouldn't be nice?
And giving other people the option, too.

True, there are some people I would like to cleave with a sword :D

It is just my opinion that I dont want Romance in the next game, I'm sure many others have a different view :)

Yes, but in real life if you did that you'd spend the rest of your life in prison. In the game you lose a skill point or two and spend 11 seconds waiting for the screen to load so you can start destroying souls again. So, while you can run around cleaving people, you can't really do it with total freedom as you can in the game. Not that I would want to run around cleaving people. Nope.

It would just add a bit more depth, wouldn't it? I mean, have you never played Morrowind and done that quest for Maurrie Aurmine thinking she'd be better off with the noble gentleman who tried to help her rather than the leather-faced thief with a ridiculous beard who got her into that mess in the first place? And then, when she tries to set you up with one of her friends, all she does is give you a few Restore Health potions? I'm sure that's innuendo for something, but I can't quite work out what (or I don't really want to know). Or what if the entire main quest had actually been totally derailed when the Nerevarine and the Zainab Ashkhan's bride-to-be, fell in love with each other on the long, arduous 2-mile trek from Tel Aruhn back to the camp and ran off together?

It's not something that's ever bothered me in Oblivion as much because all the women are munters, (although the Sirens' Deception quest could have been very different - imagine going along with the sirens' orders, having your way with them then ending up in a "Is that a summoned sword in your hand or are you just pleased to see me?" scenario) but in Morrowind, the hero of the people is a bachelor who can't even have a proper house, having to live out of hotel rooms like a photocopier salesman.

I'm not too bothered about sex, but being able to get married or whatever would add a huge new dimension to the game.

In your hand?
Slightly presumptuous.

And I'm sure there's places in America where you could marry a lizard.
The game's not too far-fetched.

Anyway, would anyone else be interested in some room for same sex relationships in this game? It's just that whenever I played ManShep on Mass Effect or on my recent go on Fable II, I felt like a complete womaniser whenever I romanced a woman. If Bethesda are going to controversial with this romance thing anyway, they may as well break new ground with gay romances.

Personally I've no problem with it. If they're going to do it at all, they may as well be fair about it. I'm pretty sure more than just heteros play the games. I'd end up going through all of them just to see how well done they are.

And as we've said before, it's all about doing things you don't in real life. I probably wouldn't romance a woman in real life (except maybe Anna Paquin if she asked nicely), but I've got no problem with doing it in a game. Just ask Sarah Weintraub on Fallout New Vegas, and Liara on Mass Effect. In the same way, I'm not a dashing, mustachioed homosexual warrior, but that actually sounds like a fun thing to do in a game like Oblivion.

I feel like I'm throwing myself to the dogs here. Most people in this thread don't even want straight romances.
