Re: Family and Relationship happenings thread
Well, my relationship with my sister is as good as ever, and I don't know what I'd do if it went away. My stepbrother's a bit lazy and boring, but he's a nice enough guy I suppose. I think that after five years, I'm finally beginning to settle into my new family and accept the existence of my stepdad, and I guess that's a good thing. Over the past year or so I've been getting more distant from my mother though, probably because I'm so desperate to be independent and don't want the aid she's offering.
As for friends and colleagues, meh, I haven't made any enemies yet. I've got a lot of "friends" that I'm just on friendly terms with and not actually that close to, but there's five or so that I'm really close to. And for the record, my ex isn't in my neck of the woods or in contact with me in any way any more, mercifully.

Re: Family and Relationship happenings thread
My family life is sucky right now, and (to quote Forrest Gump) that's all I have to say about that.
My love life is... not so good. I can't carry on a romantic relationship very well (when and how often should I call? and other such questions). Though I am currently trying to capture somebody's heart (if only I had a masterball....), and I think it's going quite well.

My family is complicated.
There's my father who did horrible things to myself and my family and expects me to just forget now that he's old.
My sisters are.. totally different from me. They don't share my senses of taste, of values, or my sense of how awesome I am. We get along, but we don't see much of each other or talk. It's probably better that way.
The rest of my family.. well, they judge me without really knowing me. Most of the literally think I worship the devil and do evil curses on people or something. I really wish that was an exaggeration or joke. le sigh
I have a huge extended family that I don't know.
Above I said "the rest of my family" but really I mean "the rest of my mother's side." The rest of my father's side I just.. do not like. They're all stuck up judgmental and love to spread rumours. Boy do I hate rumours spread about me that aren't true. Oh yes. I hate them.
Given all that, things are pretty well.

My wife is rather nice, at times. We have a very odd relationship. I'm the housewife, you see. I stay home and take care of our our
Plus, she's very nice. I've had a very tough year and she's been there for me every step of the way. She was with me for many years before that as well. She's mostly very patient. Ruling an Empire isn't easy work, yknow. It's very taxing, being Emperor and she's a lovely Empereresses. That's an odd word, it's why we mostly just go by the Cactus King and Cactus Queen. Re: Family and Relationship happenings thread
Here is how I came very close to finding true love.
It was at about midnight on a warm Saturday evening. I had just been watching seminal French music-hall duo Belle And Sebastian perform renditions of some of the popular skiffle hits of the day. It had been quite a day - before that, it had been The Archie Bronson Outfit (previously known as Archie Bronson And His Outfits before the name was changed in the name of equality), one of the newest beat sensations in the hit parade, and The Maccabees, who are rubbish and I only went because everyone else did and I was sick of hanging around on my own. Every time another guitar riff copped off Johnny Marr (badly) started up, my urge for a pint of bitter increased exponentially.
It was a strange twist of fate that brought my doppelganger to me. We were at what in the 60s would have been called a 'happening', which was actually at a festival, which is actually a campsite with some scaffolding in it on which bands can play. The campsite is then also filled with shops selling things that you could never possibly need unless you were at a festival. This idea was developed during the inevitable argument about what we would do differently if we were in charge. Someone pointed out that we should have a 'stoners' tent' full of anything that they would find interesting. I pointed out that this would just be anything in the world. You could put a cabbage in there and someone wearing a Hawkwind T-shirt would point at it and go "That is brilliant".
Anyway. It was quite a large campsite, about ten acres, so it's quite a coincidence that two people should choose to pitch next to each other - I think it shows an in-depth geographical understanding. Pitching on top of a small hill (or 'dry site' as we geographers call them) within staggering distance of the campsite bar was quite simply genius.
Anyway. My doppelganger had two main differences to me - she was a girl, and she didn't like Top Gear. I didn't like The Arctic Monkeys and she did, but we both agreed that Alex Turner's side project The Last Shadow Puppets was better anyway. We also had a shared love of The Mighty Boosh, and doing the whole "How's your Pauline?" "Oh, she's alright, she's dead, how's your Pauline?" "Oh, she's dead. She's alright, still going on at me all the time..." thing never really got old. She also didn't think twice about coming to watch The National with me instead of going to see popular skiffle combo Florence And Her Machines with everyone else. And we said that, in an ideal world, Jimi Hendrix and The Smiths would have been headlining anyway. Other than that, she had the same birthday as me, and we'd both only missed Nick Cave's birthday by a day, so it clearly was some feat of celestial alignment.
Anyway. That night whilst I was watching beat sensation The Jim Jones Revue at an event hosted by television's Mark Lamaar, she got with the ex-boyfriend of her best mate, who she was inconveniently sharing a tent with for the weekend. After I heard said best mate complaining outside my tent at some stupid point in the night when it was daylight but my body knew I should have still been asleep, she did declare the event to be "not kosher". I replied with "I didn't know you were Jewish", which everyone else apart from her thought was very funny. The next day she did something to annoy me and I called her a "bloody yid" which garnered a similar reaction.
Whilst arguing about whether to go and see The Big Pink or Peruvian doom metal supergroup Mumford And Sons, myself and my doppelganger decided to go and buy a cup of tea. It was rubbish, of course. We were not engaged in any form of manual labour so it couldn't be served in a chipped ceramic mug, and there was no chance of our grandmothers coming to visit so it couldn't be served in a fine bone china cup and saucer set. It was, instead, in a polystyrene cup in which the teabag had not been left for anywhere near long enough and what one actually ended up with was a cup of hot brown water.
But then, whilst she was reaching across to the inevitable camping table stacked with packets of sugar and a bottle of milk of indeterminate age, her arm brushed against mine and, since she was my doppelganger, she proved that the sex would be rubbish as we cancelled each other out in an explosion that wiped out most of East Anglia.

I also hope to one day be murdered by a girlfriend so I can write a Nick Cave-esque haunting ballad about it.

Re: Family and Relationship happenings thread
I feel like my older brother would also agree with that. He is easily annoyed, but thankfully he easily recovers, too.The Dog Whisperer wrote:I'm an older brother, and I can verify that older brother's are very easily annoyed.
My family consists of three brothers, who contrary to the stereotype are neither crazy nor overprotective about having a sister, and who taught me very many things about how to correctly punch someone in the nose to break it without hurting your fingers. The only problem is that I am very much so a mother hen, and they all live a good distance from me, and since I am the sort of person who simply must get off and see the world, they'll probably remain a good distance. But we chat frequently and visit every so often, and that's enough for me. Hopefully in the very near future I will have news of finally having a sister-in-law...but we'll have to see how it goes.
The world of Avron does not have any romantic relationships at this moment, but that pleases me just fine. I am of the opinion that, so long as I keep doing what makes me happy and merry, the universe will go my way and one day I will look up from my book on the train to find a nice lad with a scruffy chin who will be doing anything but playing with a smart phone and wearing a Top Gear T-shirt or something of the other and drinking a beer and smiling at me. It's the perfect plan, clearly.

Re: Family and Relationship happenings thread
It's not really a happening since its happened years ago, but I might as well just give some basic facts about my family:
I've no grandparents. One (the Italian) died long before I was born and my other (Mexican) died when I was too young to full grasp what actually happened. The closest person I have to a grandfather is my great-uncle, who doesn't live near, though he is looking to move in with his daughter (my cousin) when he can sell his house.
My (Italian) grandmother is the most devout Catholic I've seen. My Mexican grandmother is overall a nice lady and also is religious, to an extent. My (Immediate Italian) cousins are 2 groups of two people.
One group, who I am related through my aunt, are sports orientated and the older sibling compliments my older sibling well and have for years. The other group, who I am related to through my bleeding heart of a republican uncle, have always been older than my brother and I. One is already a mother of one and the other works as an EMT in Sacramento, working to be a nurse.
I have a lot of cousins on my Mexican side. And that's an understatement. So I'll just go over my immediate cousins, who thankfully only are a single group of3 4 5. It's a complicated thing, really. The eldest sibling is old enough to be my dad and I haven't ever seen him, once. Talked to him once, over the phone, because for some reason he called this house looking to call my aunt who once lived here. The other, well, he was never around and won't be around for much longer. The other siblings, however, I know. The oldest of those 3 lives with my grandma and helps around the house. The next one lives on his own and works in a tropical fish/t-shirt shop. The other goes to college and also lives with my grandma who works at a location not evident to my mind.
The docks here are a favorite past time of the older generations here in my town. We call them longshoremen (unisex term), and there are a multitude in my family. My cousin, my uncle, my other uncle, another cousin, formerly my dad, and many more.
My dad has 3 other siblings. The oldest was in several marriages and lives with my grandma. The next is his only other sibling who had kids who lives on her own with a friend. Then, the youngest, is probably the most financially successful person in my family. He's a doctor living in a house in an equally nice part of Miami, Florida with his partner. He's looking to go back to college to start a practice and skipped his senior year of high school to go study at USC. Fun facts: he goes to Disney World several times a year and 80% of his day is spoken in Spanish.
And that's all I want to write right now because my fingers are freezing and I left a game of Dragon Age: Origins running. Toodles.

Yep, my sister annoys me all the time, unquestionably. I wouldn't trade her for the world though. I don't know, it's hard to explain. You know when you've got that family membe. that you feel naturally bonded to? Althoigh I appreciate her and respect her, I've never really felt that my mom would be eternally important to me, and, well, I think I've proven to myself that I didn't need my dad to live on. But my sister... I've been with her since the moment she was born, and have loved her as a sibling and friend from the first moment of it. If I had to make a decision for one of us to have a greater life, I would pick her withou hesitation. But then again, I also have a couple of friends who I am extremely close to, to the point where we may as well be related, so I guess it isn't that unique for me.evenratman wrote:Older sisters are easily annoyed too. Re: Family and Relationship happenings thread
My life is pretty much the busiest its even been at this very moment to be honest. However it isn't phasing me at all. Earlier this year my dad had a heart attack, and he left home about 2 months ago. However neither of these events had any effect on my at all. I've become almost immune to any sort of emotion when it comes to family. Thats sorta a good thing I guess? As for relationships, I'm currently with a girl who I first met early this year at a party and instantly had a massive crush on but I thought I would never, ever have a chance with, party because she's 17 and im 16 but I look like I'm 14, and she's gorgeous. Then she just decided to get in touch with me about 2 months ago and said she liked me and I was just like o_O. She's said she loves me but over the past few years I came to believe that I am pretty much unlikeable in any way, so I'm constantly worried that it could all be completely untrue. And I'm fairly sure she means much much more to me than I do to her...
Anyway, now I've put a dampener on the whole thread. Sorry
