Re: Horses in Skyrim
I think you should be able to find herds of wild horses and depending upon some skill (personality, maybe) you can tame the more fierce horses and select the fastest, strongest horse.

From point A to point B
In Morrowind the Dunmer ride on giant flying bugs. In Oblivion people sit on boring, boring horses. What means of transportation do you want/ think will be in Skyrim?
I'm hoping for big ships. I'm not sure what kind of transportation beasts there could be, hopefully you won't have to be swallowed.

Re: From point A to point B
How about a cool reward for some awesome sidequest like having a DRAGON??!!
I would like to see Dragons where they are appropriate, Horses (although very different from Oblivion horses) oxen type creatures, maybe even a POLAR BEAR, and other similar things. Honestly the best steed I'd like is a Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, although that's a bit hard to justify, so I can only hope for the modders to come out with them.

It might get uncomfortable sitting on a Spinosaurus' back.
But dragons? Meeeeeh, too much. But polar bears!

Re: From point A to point B
At least the dragon would be capable of fighting alongside you while also keeping you warm at night. Who knows? it might be you get to do some job for some alchemist, and he makes you a poison and/or a magic bow that works with only 1 type of arrow, and you shoot your steed to pick it, as its some perma charm potion? More steed ideas: summon some daedric steed, cliff racer, magic steed? Unicorns that can impale enemies with their horn, atronach steed?

I don't want to be able to ride dragons, that'd be too... WoW-ish.
Anyway, I think there should be at least horses, and hopefully more different mounts.
@ZombiezuRFER: Hehe, Cliff Racer mount.
Edit: Oh, and there should of course be ships. And maybe some kind of sleds, pulled by some creature?

Moose! Or maybe some new version local to Skyrim like a buffed up one
Actually, a Swedish king (Karl XII, it might just be a myth though) tried to tame them to use them in the army, but it never went too well

Re: Horses in Skyrim
I'd also like to see a 'saddlebags' feature where our horse can carry stuff for us, like loot or potions or weapons. I think we should also be able to set up portable camps - again, kinda like in Red Dead, but more interactive. You could roast food over the fire, sleep, feed your horse, heal your injuries.
More horse breeds would be nice, too! Maybe some warhorses and hardier horses you would expect to find in Skyrim. Pack ponies that would follow you around?

I love the mountain goat idea!
But...
Would a goat be able to support a fully grown, muscly adventurer wearing heavy armour?
Just a thought.

Re: Horses in Skyrim
Really can't think of mounts that fit in with the lore of Skyrim. Even horses seems like a stretch, but if there's variety I could definitely see some Nords on the border with Hammerfell who are more influenced by the Mongols, say. '
What about horseriding as a skill. The more you ride, the better the things you can do from a horse. As you increase in levels you can jump them, rear them up and attack with them, attack with swords from the saddle (something that hasn't been done since Daggerfall, by the way), ever fire on Horseback (Mongolian archers had a reputation for this).

Re: From point A to point B
Spinosaurus? What about Utahraptor ostrommaysorum or, if we're really lucky, Afrovenator abakensis. I would also be quite partial to a trip through the mountains astride a mighty Baryonyx walkeri.ZombiezuRFER wrote:Honestly the best steed I'd like is a Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, although that's a bit hard to justify, so I can only hope for the modders to come out with them.
The problem with Spiney is that you can't really ride one without taking his sail up the wazoo. Unless maybe you sat just behind the neck?

Re: From point A to point B
Thats what I was thinking, saddle on the neck's base right before the sail. Besides, we all know that spino is going to be something that will get the NPCs talking. "Hey did you see that? An argonian who happens to be Dovahkiin is on a giant daedroth!" We will have spiney and it will be fun. If you want a Utahraptor, aren't you just taking from WoW? Anyways, yeah it would be cool, but nothing is quite the same as a spinosaurus.Doctor Meaticus wrote:Spinosaurus? I've never played WoW. Ever. And I will never sink so low. Utahraptor is just a magnificent animal.ZombiezuRFER wrote: If you want a Utahraptor, aren't you just taking from WoW?
BTW, an Argonian riding a dinosaur would be odd. It's like a lizard riding a lizard in the eyes of the folk of Tamriel.

Re: Horses in Skyrim
I'd like to see them take some pointers from Mount & Blade, as they seem to have functional horses that allow for a variety of combat options. The main problem with horses in Oblivion was that they aren't good at traversing the enviroment or dealing with challenges. Hills are a problem, stumps and rocks are a problem, and any enemies you encounter on your horse need to be dealt with after you've slowly climbed down.

That is why they should make an effort to include horse combat.
no more of that tedious and slow mount/dismount. I wanna be able to swat 'em from high.

Re: Horses in Skyrim
Horse combat will be a great addition, especially for archers - they were always sitting ducks in Oblivion, if anyone got close to you you've had it. But if you can stay on your horse and just pepper them with arrows you'd be clear of those pesky heavily armoured grunts.

Re: Horses in Skyrim
First and foremost, before any changes are made for horses, there must be a great change -- Horsemanship as an attribute! It drives me nuts that you're not gaining anything (apart from a faster trip). I think it would add a lot to the game. I do like the idea of naming them, I'm not sure about other mounts though . . .unless you could like tame a dragon! That would awesome, but highly unlikely.

Re: From point A to point B
I think Dragons or Polar Bears would be too...gimmicky for Skyrim, thay'd no doubt be very cool to have but I won't cry if they aren't in the game as tame transport.
I can see huskies and horses sure, but I would love to see ships - a small network of trade routes that you can hop on when you need to travel many miles, maybe even get attacked by pirates!
