I think they will keep it, or offer something that's equally shortcut... ish...
I don't mind, if they include a hardcore mode with alternative means of travel, as mentioned in another thread.

Re: Fast Travel?
Same travel methods and Morrowind. I suppose they could have the Oblivion fast travel, but maybe like an option in the Settings screen.

Re: Fast Travel?
I vote for a travel system like morrowind. I'd love it to be animated too (sitting in your silt strider as it walks over the trees. similar to Wow, I suppose..) but that might be reaching to far. I'd still be happy with a priced travel fee via some form appropriate to Skyrim. Be it sled pulled by some creatures or something similar.
I undertstand the complaints about oblivion fast travel. Even though its optional... Its still there. Which distracts the people who would otherwise walk into taking the quick route. It merely being there can be hard to turn down.
And before someone comes in here with some smart ass remark about self-control and don't do its, let's leave that at the door. We all know we love to roleplay but come on.. We know you fast travel on occasion.

Re: Fast Travel?
they can take away fast travel, but only if they make many, many locations with transportation that acts as fast travel.

Re: Fast Travel?
It is optional in the first place, yet you can a mod for Oblivion to add travel networks (Yet it is incompatible with many, many mods).
Though I wouldn't mind it included in Skyrim. I travel everywhere by horse anyway. And, if Bethesda listens to the majority of players, whom didn't like fast travel, chances are they won't include it and bring back travel networks. Or, trying to appeal to the majority of 'casual' gamers who would be discouraged by such a system, they may have both. Which would be rather pointless and cause excess production times. Yet if fast travel is the only travel option, consider me the one who'll start the mod to add them.

Get rid of it, and limit the amount of 'fetch' quests, and I'll be happy.
If a seasonal climate system is implemented, we could have coast-hugging ferry services as fast travel that are available only when the sea ice breaks up. Oooooh! Just had a thought - underground rivers for the inland areas, or even underground mining railways. OK, that might be going too far.

maybe too far. but you have to admit, that would be pretty cool. especially if it was animated like Humans Vanish suggested.Ethelred wrote:Oooooh! Just had a thought - underground rivers for the inland areas, or even underground mining railways. OK, that might be going too far.

I've no problem with fast travel. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind if they removed it as long as they implemented a different means of fast travel, such as the boats from Morrowind.

Re: Fast Travel?
It seems that the agreement so far is that, no fast travel. It took realism out for me, even though i still use it by habit.
I would much prefere to have to pay for the services and at least that will get rid of a bit of the money that will undoubtly be piling up at this point in the game.

Re: Fast Travel?
Me too, Oblivion felt a lot cheaper than Morrowind. Even the quest arrow made it seem linear somehow (but they can keep that one). Too bad you can't have both fast travel and transportation services; if you have to choose I'm voting for transportation. As long as you come across inns and cabins along the way it shouldn't be too tedious.

Re: Fast Travel?
Oblivion's fast travel has just made me lazy, plus frustrated because I don't get to see the landscape... of course it's optional, but when you feel you need or want something and are in a hurry... you easily pick the fast travel. To call it a temptation would be fair and square.
I think Morrowind with Vvardenfell Travel Agency mod (VTA) was fine. You got to some places instantly, but you still had to use your feet a lot. Another option might be to have hot air balloons, but they should be animated, so you could enjoy the travel.

Re: Fast Travel?
Well, I guess I'll repeat what everyone already said. No fast travel, but Morrowind style transportation, perhaps animated.
As I believe Nyk wrote somewhere, the fact that they put fast travel in Oblivion made them not put in other means of transportation.

I quite liked it in Oblivion.
But I don't care if it's going to be on the next game or not.

Re: Fast Travel?
To be honest, I don't mind.
Because in Oblivion it did help a lot if I was in Bruma and needed to get to the Brina Cross Inn quick. Obviously, all the super hardcore players wouldn't like it no matter if it's optional. If I want to roleplay however, there should be a "On/Off" Switch in the gameplay settings menu. That would be perfect and no one would complain.
Well, maybe some people.

Fast Travel should be optional. For example: I'm taking amusing screenshots. One of the things I want to take a picture of is at one end of Skyrim, the other one is at the other. Pain in the behind, or what?

Very Painful. That's a good point and has led me onto to thinking about better screenshot and recording capabilities.Argonanza wrote:Fast Travel should be optional. Re: Fast Travel?
I think that fast travel removed alot from a game to be honest.
I've been playing F:NV recently and preventing my self from fast travel has increased the longevity of the game in my opinion. Not only because it actually takes real time to get to the location, but also because you see more of the game along the way, and not just the scenery!
Makes the game harder and more fun without fast travel in my opinion, but I could see why sometimes most people would want it. But that's just sometimes, like when you wanto go into a city and kill everyone for fun, then just load a game.

Have fast travel like in Oblivion. You are never forced to use it, so why complain about it?

Sure, you can kinda RP in Oblivion by having to go to a stable and bribing the owner before fast traveling, but still I think it's a lot better in Morrowind. As I said, the fact they put fast travel in Oblivion is the reason they didn't put any other means of traveling in the game.
But that's a bit offtopic, sorry.

Re: Fast Travel?
I want to travel fast, but I don't want this magic "teleport from A to B" system. There's no other traveling options in Oblivion, thus forcing you to travel through the wilderness where you are doomed to encounter a thousand wolves and bandits. In other words, I'm not forced to use it, but not using it is a real pain. I'd like to see other means of travelling in Skyrim, means that give me that RPG-feeling.ZombiezuRFER wrote:Have fast travel like in Oblivion. Re: Fast Travel?
There was one reason why fast traveling in Oblivion wasn't really an issue, and that's why I hope they'll get rid of it in Skyrim: You didn't miss out on anything by using fast travel.
Some people say fast travel took something away from the game, they didn't see the whole world. But was that really the case? Think about it. In Cyrodiil you were either walking through a huge forrest or trying to find a ridiculous way through the mountains. Other than that, most places looked the same. Now you could say you missed a cave, a fortress, an Aylid ruin. But to be honest, why would you want to find them? Thanks to Oblivions randomness in item placement and respawning dungeons, you really needed only 1 to 3 dungeons to raid over and over again every 3 days to find any item you wanted. There was no reason to explore the world.
I really want a Morrowind-like transportation service in Skyrim, as it gets you quickly from one place to another, but still requires you to do some walking through the wilderness. But again, that only makes sense if there is actually an incentive to explore the world.

You could still get to places fast with the Morrowind System, but you have to pay a small fee to either travel on some giant insect, travel by boat, or throught the Mage's Guild teleporter.theo1170 wrote:they should not remove fast travel, and I am a hardcore player, I just like getting to places fast.
