Re: Races in Skyrim

I want to see the races of Skyrim have perks and powers which AREN'T just spells. I remember reading in the wiki that Argonians revert to all fours when running at top speed. That would be SICK. On top of that, Argonians and Khajiit should have much larger bonuses in Hand-to-hand on account of the fact that they have claws. Notice how both these races only punch you when unarmed but have a natural arsenal at their disposal - tooth and claw?

It might not be a freezer, but even if it is 'Viking Canda' as you put it, lets look at some statistics:

Number of lizard species in Canada: 5 or 6
Number of lizard species in the USA: about 200

Sure, lizards in real life can't wear clothes (except for Aladdin Sarsippius Sulemenagic Jackson III) but would that really help a presumably cold-blooded species? No, it wouldn't. Neither would a layer of lizard blubber, it would actually make it more difficult for the blubbery lizard to absorb heat from it's surroundings.

I expect Argonians to be relatively rare in Skyrim, although would be happy to be proved wrong. I like Argonians.

What they really need to bring back though is the whole 'no boots, no gloves' thing for the beast races.

Argonians can't wear gloves in Morrowind? I thought it was only boots and full helmets they can't wear. But it's been a while since I played, so I might be wrong.

And if they make the Argonians more lizard like, instead of humans with scales and funny heads, I hope they at least include Argonian specific boots and helmets. That'd be pretty cool.

I don't doubt Argonians will be included, though. Wouldn't be like Bethesda.

No, you're right - Argies can wear gloves. Don't mind me, its been years since I've played Morrowind.

I've just skimmed through the Skyrim page in the Lore section and I've come across some details that stood out, namely the below:

"It is currently inhabited by the human race of Nords. The Aldmer and Falmer occupied Skyrim until the late Merethic, when the final wave of Nordic immigration, led by Ysgramor, finally drove out the mer."

"Redguards and Bretons are still giving resistance today, as The War of the Bend'r-mahk expanded Skyrim far into Hammerfell and High Rock. Resistance is mostly encountered in the cities of Jehenna and Elinhir, and of course, along the border to those provinces."

So it looks like Mer races could be out all together, Redguards and Bretons could also have some troubles too if the whole war thing gets in the way.

For the player's amusement I think there will be a lot of races to choose (the standard ones and maybe some new ones?) but from the looks of things, NPC races will be almost wiped out. I hope that isn't the case.

I'm pretty sure there'll be ruins and traces after them, like in Bloodmoon, instead of the Ayleid ruins in Oblivion. But them being a playable race is about a likely as Dwemer.

One thing I demand is that the berserk power is restricted Nord and Nords only :Twisted Evil:

They should introduce an insane Argonian who travels around Skyrim (sort of like Mai'q the Liar) in nothing but a fur hat.

I liked that idea but you know what would be nice? If the Khajiits had different colours for their furs. In the past games their colors were kinda yellow, orange and light brown. What about a black Khajiit? Or a white just like you said? Maybe a gray or a dark brown one? That would bring a lot of diversity to the game.

I think Itd be pretty sick if you could be a dwemer in the gam. I understand that they are "extinct," but an entire portion of the plot could be about why they have come back?

The Falmer will probably be to Skyrim what the Dwemer and Ayleids were to Morrowind and Cyrodiil (respectively).

I can imagine many of the Akiviri being predominantly NPCs (if that's who is attacking) with the vast majority of them re-spawning much the same way as the Daedra have in the past few titles in key spots.

As far as new playable races go...maybe a new beast or two...the problem is that there are 10 races for 10 provinces...so unless they make up a brand new island or something and squeeze into the lore..I can't really see how? Maybe a new aquatic/amphibian race similar to, but skinnier than, the Sload, or some kind of ape-like race similar to the Imga.. Who knows? Maybe the Maormer could become playable, even though they're more for Summerset Isle than Tamriel mainland.

Anyway...any ideas for new races, or perhaps subsets of current races?

Yes the Akaviri will probably like the Dremora from Oblivion.

As in non-playable but you can interact with them.

actually isnt there a monkey race that lives in summerset with the high elves? i seem to remember them being talked about and some will shave themselves to mimic the high elves as they view them as a superior race or something, also i remember they would pull there cloaks over there noses when men were around as they found there smell disgusting lol.

anywho itd be cool if they made them playable

Those are the Inga, and they live in Valenwood.

The Ka Po 'Tun are the ones for me, though. I want the Akaviri in my game...

There are a few races from Akavir. They might all be featured with the Ka Po' Tun as the head race since they probably conquered the rest.

They might appear as a caste system army with the Tang Mo monkey men as the lowest in the army with the demonic Kamal next followed by the Tsaesci as second highest.

Look at the Covenant from the Halo series as an example.

That too, but I meant more like a biological feature - just like rabbits etc. get white fur during winter to camouflage themselves. Maybe not ALL khajiit, but the khajiit local to Skyrim (surely just a few, but still) could have evolved such a feature.

I hardly believe they will make up new races for Skyrim, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they gave you more options to tailor your race like you want it. For example, there are lots of different kinds of Khajiit, which is stated in the Lore:Khajiit article on the wiki. I believe there's even a quadrupedal type of Khajiit.
