Combat System.
Okay, not one of these yet so why not?
What do you think that the combat system will be like with the new/heavily modded engine? I'm hoping we now have the ability to decapitate enemies and skew them with spears and the like, to give it that extra bit of realism and fun. Gory, yes, but TES combat has always been a little bit old fashioned compared to some of the games out to day.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want any stupid moves like running and jumping onto an enemy and using them as a skateboard(Devil May Cry) but having moves that are more realistic will give it that extra edge of game-play and role-playing beauty.

Anyone around here played a game from Capcom called Shadow of Rome? Probably not but I'd want the combat to be like in this game, more or less.

With a new engine anythings possible. The new 18 rating should allow for more gore as well.

Re: Combat System.
It might have a system like DA:Origins where theres an execution chance depending on which weapon your using and your skill with it.
That'd be cool, along with special moves like combos.

Re: Combat System.
One that isn't quite so HacknSlash... one where your enemies move around, so they can't be hit like a punching bag. Also so enemies flee. If I were a bandit and my arm was cut off, I'd run.

Ring-a-ding, baby.

Re: Combat System.
I think that adding in a wider variety of weapons opens up a lot of new ways to do combat. Also what do you think of mounted combat.
Got my SKYRIM fix for today. Life is good.

Re: Combat System.
A better combat system is probably going to happen, maybe they'll change it to suit Skyrim?
And combo system would be awesome too, as for mounted combat, i dunno.

@Matt: Realism is always nice but not to the point where everything can start to get annoying.
I know I would get mad after my 67th kill or so got away because he/she didn't had an arm to fight back.........

Re: Combat System.
True but I'm thinking like a 5% chance to flee above half health, 10% under, 25% in the last snippit of health.

Re: Combat System.
Mounted combat might be fun with arrows and spells, hunting deer etc. but melee weaponry and horses do not mix. You charge towards your foe, spear at your side, miss and race oast crashing into a tree. It'll just end up ridicilous.

Re: Combat System.
Mounted combat? Wouldn't that kinda suck? Because you could quite easily miss the attack and have to loop around again and again just to get one kill.
The dismembering idea rocks but not at the beggining of the fight, if the first time a hit a bandit his arm falls off and he starts running i'd just start getting mad.
I'd love to be able to command an army on TES. Just a small one, or do something like in the pirate add-on for Oblivion, where you send of your crew/party/tribe, to raid or attack things and places.

Re: Combat System.
A bit of spell variety wouldn't go amiss, either. Not only does a level 1 Flare look exactly like a level 75 Enemies Explode, each enemy dies in exactly the same way. Lets have some Midas-style uber destruction - frozen enemies, burnt enemies, smoking-boots-was-all-that-remained enemies. You get my drift.
I agree. That might work better as a random 'finishing move'.DerangedPickle wrote: The dismembering idea rocks but not at the beggining of the fight, if the first time a hit a bandit his arm falls off and he starts running i'd just start getting mad.

Re: Combat System.
I would like the option of mounted combat. Right now I think it's extremely annoying to be attacked by a bandit while traveling by horse just because it takes too much time to get off the horse. It would be much easier if you could use some kind of ranged attack.

Unless there's hordes of daedra around you in which case you don't want to be stuck in the finishing move cutscene/event.

It'd be fine if time just slowed for a second then went back to normal. Deadly Reflex did it just right, I think.

What so when it goes into the finishing move time slows down? That'd work pretty well.

I'm picturing something really nice (at least imo). Just imagine yourself mounted in a horse with a spear in your hand, as soon as you see a "traveler" you slow down time (a la Prince of Persia) and impale the guy's ribcages in a "cinematic motion".
Awesome!

Re: Combat System.
That would make combat brilliant, also makes you're character seem more awesome when taking down big monsters, like Ogres. instead of them just falling over.

Re: Combat System.
Surely they will have to change the combat system if we are to run around slaying Dragons?
I like the sound of mounted combat, and would like less hack n' slash. I think more variety in the spell effects would be pretty cool as well.

Re: Combat System.
Who else wants some karma oriented moves, like if your evil you trip your enemy up, or hit them when their down, while if your good it's purely skill oriented or help from a divine force.

Our awesome ideas aside, I'm sure the combat will be like in Dragon Age. That "slow" hack and slash feel, with some tactics throwed behind and all that. Drinking things in the middle of the battle, etc.

Re: Combat System.
no way, no karma system. better to leave the fame and infamy thing.
that system leads to better role playing.

Well fame/infamy is kinda what I meant, just couldn't remember what the system was in TES, it's been way to long since i've played Oblivion.

Novelty value wears off fast though. First throat slit-Awesome. Six thousandth throat slit- boring and distracting.
