I hate companions, escort and follow me missions included: (There are no ups)

They get in the way
Increase your # of Assaults due to Friendly Fire
Their Combat AI makes it hard to set up the fight
The issues of Healing & Repairing Weapons/Armors
Ruin any chance of a sneak
They die
They get lost
They are generally a pain in the arse

That's the point, we want Bethesda to fix all this and make companions awesome.

If they fix it, that would be a different story. However, there are some parts that are not fixable.

I have used several Companion Mods. Some have different commands you can chose from. Not that the modders did a poor job, it is just hard to get the AI to know what to do, and how to do it.

Lets say you have two enemy. How do you tell the Companion to take the guy on the left? Without breaking the game immersion. You'd have to come up with some sort of targeting screen, that allows you to pick your companions target, and form of attack: Melee, Ranged, Magic.

I think that's almost getting into Artificial Intelligence, like, actual AI. ("Ok, Bob, you attack him and I attack him, use your sword") Unless you went through a overcomplicated menu before the attack.

Simpler things can be achieved, like what style of fighting can be used, however.

A complicated Menu before/during the attack, would be a quick fix, but is also what I was saying would be an Immersion Breaker.

I had a mod, and set the companin to Ranged/Bow... so he uses his bow, and dies, because he didn't switch to melee when rushed, and engaged in close combat.

Not trying to shoot the whole thing down, just explaining my experinces. It would be nice if they fixed it. Especially if they have Escort/Follow Missions. I just think it would take a lot of fixing.

That's due to posts only counting in the TES and Lore sections. Mod sections and arena/daggerfall etc. are included in this.

Quick question, just want to confirm.

So TESV has been confirmed for development? My friends have been talking about it lately but I never got the full story of what's going on.

But if it is true, to me, it makes sense: If Bethesda had released TESV before they made Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, no one would care about any FPSRPGs after TESV, like the two Fallout games.

No one knows if it is true or not. The rumours that is.

And as for...

this isn't entirely true, some people hate fantasy games. Fallout games are completely different as they are modern and people have different tastes on these things after all. Take COD:WaW and COD:MW.. some people like the old style, some people like the new style, it varies between people.

I think Fallout appeals to a wider range of people simply because its a much tighter concept and the retro mad max type world is more appealing than the lord of the rings type world. Its cooler, more easier concept to get into without being bogged down by elves and lore etc (which a load of people had enough of in the days of LOTR) and has great soundtracks (FO3 did anyway, i'm hoping the new vegas dlc will include a mission to get galaxy news radio piped over to the west lol)

TES is a much broader experience, a TES game has much more to do even tho the world might be the same size as fallout3/NV, but not all people want huge endless games and fallout is an excellent example of the best of both worlds.

from the point of view of the fans, if TES was released before new vegas i have no doubt which game would be neglected by the uber fans whilst we all played TES.For me fallout and other rpg type games is just something that keeps me going until TES5 is released

and it will be soonish i think

Okay, that kinda clears things up a bit. And I didn't mean what I said about F3/NV in a negative way, more in a joking way, like "TESV will be so amazing that every game after it will be nothing compared to it."

I claim to prophesy that if TESV is made, it will be released for the next generation of consoles, like the Xbox 720 or whatever.

Really? I heard somewhere that the new consoles will be available some time in the next 3 years, could be wrong though.

Everything is speculation right now. Looking at the patterns, I'd say the current gen is more likely to last 5 than 3 years. The PS2 is still being sold, after all.

But because of the growing difference between the PC and consoles, I'd bet on 2013/2014 for new consoles.

Dragon Age has done this with their Tactics screen. If TESV gives us
some more permanent companions, then this would definitely be of use.
And, what's more, is that Square Enix did this some time ago with their
Gambits in FFXII. So, what could be done is, you get to set a "permanent"
companion command. That is to say, you can change it for your desired
effect, but you don't have to change it for companions that you replace.

To expand: with a multiple-follower situation, you'd have to have a max (3,
ideally) number of companion "slots." Each companion "slot" can have a
different setup. Say, you have an Orc, Altmer, and Bosmer following you.
Set slot 1 to melee, slot 2 to magic, and slot 3 to ranged-melee (where if
attacked by melee, the companion will switch to melee).

I have a friend over at bethesda, They are making another one, the reason it's taking so long, as stated above, they are making a WHOLE NEW engine. The engine is the hard part.
