The "Nail" of the Listener?

Post by DeadBread »

Here be spoilers about the DB!
Spoiler:
So, Ungolim was the Listener of the Black Hand, the thumb (to use Lucien's comparision). So who was the "Nail", the personal assasin to Ungolim? I have a feeling that I may have murdered him during the Dead Drop missions, but I can't be entirely sure. Can anyone shed any light?

Right lads more spoiler ahead I guess.
Spoiler:
It's never really specified who all the 'nails' are. Only that the player is one.

Spoiler:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Black_Hand
Through these orders, the player kills off Shaleez and Havilstein Hoar-Blood, two Silencers, J'Ghasta and Alval Uvani, two Speakers, and Ungolim, the Listener. The Black Hand regroups by killing Lucien Lachance, believing him to be the traitor, and promoting Banus Alor, Belisarius Arius, Mathieu Bellamont and the player to Speakers in place of those lost, establishing a council of five.
Listeners
Ungolim

Speakers
Lucien Lachance
J'Ghasta
Alval Uvani
Arquen

Silencers
Shaleez
Havilstein Hoar-Blood
Belisarius Arius
Banus Alor
Mathieu Bellamont
Player - You

After-effects
Black Hand - Council of Five
Arquen
Belisarius Arius
Banus Alor
Mathieu Bellamont
Player - You

You kill off 5 of them, as denoted by the red, and the black hand kills Lucien. Somehow there is an extra Silencer. It may be that one was promoted, to replace one of the two that you killed. Otherwise there would only be 4 left to reorganize to the Council of Five.

It is in the Wiki, I linked to the page, and the quote was from the Wiki. I just expanded on the Wiki Article, to make it more visual.

You didn't answer his question though, his question was:
Spoiler:
Which Silencer is the Listener's personal assassin, and do you (the player) kill him/her?

Spoiler:
It doesn't actually say anywhere that I have found (yet), who the Silencers actually worked for, just that they were Silencers. I have checked each members individual page, and can not find where is say who they are the Silencer for, or on the Speakers Page, who their Silencer is. The Construction Set does not give this information either.

There is the little wrinkle when Lucien states that each Speaker has one. It suggests that the Listener doesn't have one.
Spoiler:
Consider this: if the Listener had a Silencer to carry out contracts, then what would be the point of giving orders to the Speakers in the first place?

Have a particularly troublesome contract? Well, one of the Speaker's own Silencer will be there for the job.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Interesting, then that might explain the numbers better then.
Spoiler:
Belisarius Arius & Banus Alor were both made Silencers to replace Shaleez & Havilstein Hoar-Blood, then quickly made Speakers, when J'Ghasta & Alval Uvani were killed. Keeping the Silencers at 4, and the Speakers at 4.

However, the order of the Dead Drops, doesn't actually support this:
1) J'Ghasta - Speaker
2) Shaleez - Silencer
3) Alval Uvani - Speaker
4) Havilstein - Silencer

Forgive me then, I'm obviously trying to identify who the silencers worked for without any hints clues to their identity. :P
