Not to be OT or anything, but oh my Divines, this is still here?!

Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Do you guys really think of a backstory for your character before you create them? Or you add a backstory after the creation?
Depends on the character. I usually like to have a general idea of who the character is as I'm going through the character creation process, and most of it gets filled in along the way. For example, with my first character there, Kynan, I knew I wanted him to be a Nord, from Skyrim, with a history of sneaky criminal behavior. As time went on, I built up more backstory, like his family connection to my main character from Morrowind and little details about his time spent in Skyrim, although to be honest, I've spent more time developing stories and mods for his adventures after the game than for his past. With other characters, it was ALL about the backstory and RP right from the start; Runs-Around-Naked, for instance, was a pure concept character from start to finish, as was Hans Grumbleman.

I think I'm going to create another character. My Khajiit got screwed. I was doing a quest for the Mage's Guild (the one from Leyawiin I guess) and when I went inside the fort I found out that the enemies inside the place were damn strong (and since my character has weak magics and only uses fists as a weapon I died a lot).

If I get out from the place to do another thing that will screw something when I get back? Like, preventing me from completing the quest? Everyone knows the game tends to be buggy sometimes.........

Nope, you can start another quest(s), and leave that one for later, when you gain a few more levels, and/or get better gear. There is no conflict with that Quest and any of the others.

When I played a Khajiit Thief that only used hand to hand, I dropped the dificulty slider a bit, to give him a better chance. Since hand to hand is sort of weak, and you would think that the Khajiit would have better hand to hand damage, due to claws.

I have a lot of characters, but here is my Favorite

Name: Utimal
Race: Dark Elf
Birthsign: The Mage
Class: Wizard

Personality:
The new arch mage of the Mages guild. Cares very little for anything beyond himself, and nothing for nature. Thinks nothing of it when he uses a soul gem of any kind. (secretly uses black soul gems). Was once suspsned from the mages guild for mistreating one his fellow mages. "Blah, so i got a little carried away." Utimal said when asked about this. "We got into an arguement about the best way to make a potion. So what if a small spell left my hand, he dersirved it. Now that I'm the Arch Mage, I intend to change a few things." Thinks very little for other people, and will even kill if they get on his nerves. Also a proud collecter of Alyied and daedric artifacts, but cares nothing for daedra. After freeing the trolls from Lord Dred's mine, he then proceed to kill them. Some day he says he will personaly kill every lesser creature in Tamerial. Why, because they bother him.

I have two Wood Elfs (one skilled with Blades, the other with Marksman), and a Nord who used axes. They were all pretty good, though I think I like the Wood Elf who used blades best.

I tend to give all my characters some random, quirky aspect to their personalities. My Khajiit was an alcoholic, and constantly got drunk even in combat. My Nord boxer is obsessed with silver, and has a huge collection of silver cups, plates, bowls, forks, etc in each house. I also have a redguard vampire who will only use curved blades, like cutlasses and katanas. I don't know why, but it makes the game more fun.

Yesterday I created another chracter, a female Bosmer.

Name: Aythredel (give me a break I'm horrible with names)........
Race: Bosmer.
Birthsign: Thief.
Custom Class: Bandit (couldn't think of a better name).....
Specialization: Stealth.
Atributes: Agility and Luck.

Major skills:
Blade.
Marksman.
Light Armor.
Security.
Sneak.
Acrobatics.
Athletics.

She's an assassin and a thief. Will join the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. Will gain a lot of infamy.

I probably should, but I'm too busy making mods for New Vegas now. Granted, even those can't get me away from Oblivion; I put Adoring Fan, Tamika, the Lusty Argonian Maid, and Cliffracer in my last one, and the radio station mod I'm working on is probably going to feature some easter egg cameos by The Sheep Shank Kids and Konstantinos (as seen in this thread!) Plus I'm still looking for a way to export facial data from Oblivion...

Just started playing Oblivion, believe it or not. Here's my planned character, let me know what you think:

Race: Orc
Class: Custom/TBD
Birthsign: Warrior
Attributes: Luck & Endurance
Skills:
  • H2H
    Armorer
    Heavy Armor
    Block
    Alteration
    Destruction
    Alchemy

Do I always have to carry the weight around here... :P

So I supppose that Ghengiz Cohen the Barbarian (from Discworld) is just about done. Just a few Misc Quests left in SI... Completed Arena, FG, Kot White Stallion Mod, KotN, Main Quest, all Misc Quest, and Shivering Isles... all of the Fame Quests, except Mages Guild. May still do Dark Brotherhood, just be Gogron gro-Bolmog(ish) about it, and just walk in and kill everything, not worrying about the Bonuses.

Level 38
Health 580
Strentgh 100
Endurance 100
Agility 94
Speed 70

Armorer 100
Block 100
Blade 100
Blunt 70
H2H 55
Athletics 86
Light Armour 100

Days 142 - Quests 144 - Fame 170

This was a Role Play, and test, to only use the Major Skills, from a Pre-Set Game Class. Again, I should have gone Custom class, switched Blunt and H2H for Acrobatics and Sneak. The only other skills besides the Majors that I did use, was Acrobatics. Sort of hard to not use it. I did use Training Sessions in Heavy Armor to help Pad Endurance, and then used the Training Sessions for Sneak, to Raise up Agility. However, I never actually used those Skills in Game. Skill Books also help with some of the Increases.

Doing this with a Warrior is actually easy. Would be much harder with a Mage Class (maybe next Character). The Role Play was fun, but had it's hitches. Being a Barbarian Nord, I did do the hit the Tavern thing, until I realized it was Raising Mercantile, so then held off, and just killed all of the Deer, and Looted the Booze, so I could at least Role Play Meals. Another aspect of Cohen, the 96 year old Barbarian, was that I always Rested for an hour after Major Fights. He also had a habit of evicting the Residents of Camps for sleeps while adventuring, but only slept for a few hours, as the olden folks are wont to do.

Since I did not use Sneek Mode, or Alchemy (Poison), it made for some epic battles. I did play thru clean, at normal setting up until Level 30, but for those that have read about Cohen in Discworld, he would wipe out a band of Assasins, without even appearing to move. So to fix this, for a Role Play perspective, I tweeked his Sword in the CS, and Dropped the Difficulty Slider down a bit. He was then able to slay the standard NPC, and most Creatures in a single stroke. He still needed 2-3 hits for Boss Creatures, Ogres, and Dremora. I played with it, until I got just the right balance.

Another aspect of only using the Majors, was Security, Mercantile, and Speachcraft/Personality. I could only pick up Loot from Corpses, and Unlocked Chests. Since I didn't want to Raise Mercantile, I could not sell Loot, so my only Loot Income, was from Gold Coin Loot. I did use the Areana Matches, Black Bows, and Vampire Dust Rewards/Payments for income though. It was also harder to get Information, with a Low Speachcraft/Personality, which meant more Gold Needed for Bribery. Raising Fame did help later in the Game.

...so from the above, this also required much more Dungeon Diving, and much more wandering. Which brings up Leveling, which went fast at first, but died to a halt around Level 30... as Athletics was the only Skill I was using that wasn't already at 100. I did fight some with Blunt and H2H later on, but not for long, as I didn't want to do Grinding, I wanted Natural Skill Increases. Which required much more Walking, Running, and Swimming. This was a pleasant Surprise, as I typically tend to Fast Travel once I get a good part of the map scouted out. I was able to see much more of the landscape.

hmmm, not bad but I would recommend light armor for a H2H user. because of the short reach and lower damage, bob-and-weave tactics will be lifesavers for you. Also, you may want to swap alchemy for athletics for 2 reasons; 1) Alchemy is extremely easy to raise, and 2) athletics will help you run circles around enemies. Other than those few changes I suggested, this should be a solid character. My Nord uses a similar build:
Name: Sergei
race(gender): Nord(male)
class(level): Savage (27)
specialization: combat
birthsign: the warrior
attributes: strength/endurance
major skills: Armorer, athletics, block, H2H, Mysticism, acrobatics, marksman
minor skills that I use regularly: Light armor, alchemy, sneak, security, mercantile
With this guy, I massacre just about anything I fight. Even though I have a bow, I rarely use it, so I could have swapped marksman for just about anything else.

Thanks for your review Sir Cuthulhu.

I actually chose heavy armor for roleplaying reason, I'm picturing an Orc version of the dwarven "battlerager" from Forgotten Realms, a la Thibbledorf Pwent. That said, I think I'll take your advice and sub out Alchemy for Athletics.

OK, fine, Jeff convinced me. For his sake, I decided to get back into Oblivion. So here's my first new character:

Image

Delivers-Packages
Male Argonian, level 3
Birthsign: the Serpent
Class: Courier
Specialization: Stealth
Attributes: Luck, Perception

Tagged Skills:
  • Athletics
    Blade
    Speechcraft
    Barter
    Energy Weapons
    Science
    Repair
Top 5 Best Trained Skills: None yet, but he hopes to find a Mysticism and Sneak skill book soon.
Favorite Guilds: Black Horse Courier, Vault 21 Tunnel Snakes

Pictures:
  • Born and raised in the city of San Francisco, Black Marsh, Delivers-Packages was a mild mannered delivery Argonian until he was one day caught cheating at blackjack in an Imperial City casino. As part of a plea bargain, he was released by the Emperor himself on the condition that Delivers-Packages personally deliver an important artifact- the Platinum Necklace- to the Emperor's estranged son Martin, who for some reason had turned into a computer and was now commanding an army of Dwemer constructs. Along the way, a long of strange crap happened, including horses going extinct, some Hackdirt bandits shooting Delivers-Packages in the head, a lot of monsters failing to level scale properly, and a global thermonuclear war.

I wanted a Pompadour, but couldn't find one. I've got about two hundred Oblivion mods installed, with so many hair addons it takes five minutes to scroll through, yet NOT ONE hairstyle is a pompadour. There's about fifty variations on every generic anime girl hairstyle you can think of, not one pompadour.

There haven't been any pompadour mods for Oblivion yet, have there?

No clue, I'd have to check. It doesn't sound familiar, though. Does that one include any good 1950s style haircuts?

I started a Granny Wetherwax Character, but in order to role play her, I don't think there really is much I can do in the way of Quests. Even the Mages Guild should be out, as she never cared much for the Wizards and Unseen University, with a slight exception for Mustrum. She would most definately do the Main Quest, not sure how to go about her doing the KotN though. Can see her being the Divine Crusader/Knight Commander. Even doing a lot of the Misc Quests, which call for Killing, and Granny "can't be having with that kind of thing".

Sort of stuck, and haven't been able to play the last couple days, 'til I figure out a solution. Plus, I can't find a Witches Hat mod. Sort of found one, but it's borked...

I was thinking that the Archchancelor: Mustrum Ridcully might be another option, if I could find a Crosssbow mod.

I created an Orc yesterday because I felt I had to. And by Sithis! I did a beautiful female Orc. Witout mods and anything. You know how hard that is? Wish I had a picture........

I'll post some tips of what I did:
Mess with the skin (the Orc became purple, yellow, blue and red when I was doing this...) make it light green and put the age thing all the way down. Give her a small mouth (not too small, something proportional). Make-up in the eyes really help (bruises, etc) :P

Name: Gorba gra-Broga.
Birthsign: The Warrior.
Class: Warrior.
Specialization: Combat.
Atributes: Endurance and Strength.

Skills:
Armorer.
Athletics.
Blade.
Block.
Blunt.
Hand to Hand.
Heavy Armour.

EDIT: I wrote stupid things. She didn't had 300HP. I guess I was high on skooma or something when I wrote such a thing.
