Going to buy Morrowind

Post by Hex Link »

So yea im going to get morrowind next month :D
But I kinda want some tips you know.
Please not any which will ruin my experience pls :?
Im kinda looking a bit at mods since there are always these 'must-have' mods!
Like for example, I heard there is a mod which makes the graphics of morrowind WAY better. Or maybe bug fixes. Stuff like that...
Also, which version should I buy?

I'd say you may as well get the Game of the Year edition, as it comes with the 2 expansions (Tribunal & Bloodmoon). It's not that expensive, and it's all-inclusive that way :)

As far as mods, This Thread has a lot of ideas for what other people use. The graphics thing you may be thinking of is the Morrowind Graphics Extender, and the main uesp wiki site has links for the patches available for bug fixes :)

Hope that helps!

I say Game Of The Year version to. Most of the silly bugs are worked out in that version of the game and mods tend to run better with it I find. I had the original versions and had lots and lots of problems, lucky me.

But yeah, I think I have all my graphic update mods and where you can get them around here somewhere... I'll PM you them if I find them, if you want of course?

Game of the Year version is definite, it's a full pack giving you the latest version. As a guide for installation I've used this:

GOTY is a must. Also, did you see the "Morrowind for Oblivion players" article on the Wiki? I used the reverse (Oblivion for Morrowind players) when I recently started my Oblivion experience, and I think they're a nice run down of the expectations you can have between what's new and different. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Morr ... on_Players

Which leads me to my big tip: Don't let your experience with Oblivion ruin the experience that is Morrowind. Our lovely Morrowind is a bit dated now and I always get sad when people don't like it because they're so used to Oblivion's system and graphics. Not that I'm saying you must like Morrowind of course, since that's in the eyes of the beholder, but give the game an honest shot before you give it an honest opinion! :)

Amen to that. There's something about and in Morrowind that you simply can't find in Oblivion - something more authentic... like there's more meat on the bones?

I haven't really used it, but it's made it to the Hall of Fame. Like so often, the only way to find out is to try it.

Best of luck. :)

The bad guys will be dead and you will be hero at the end of the game :-) Just like in any other game... :-D

On-topic: I just found useful Regenerate Magicka (or so) mod. Magicka will not regenerate fluently like in Oblivion, but only by sleeping/potions/spell absorption without this mod. This wil regenerate your magicka in slow pace (even deadly sometimes :-) ). I just found it useful after playing Oblivion, I missed regenerating magicka in Morrowind

don't know any mods, but its kind of appropriate that youre going to Morrowind from Oblivion cos in many ways Mw is like oblivion for experts. Theres more complexity to the game and its a more challenging, esp at low level.

so be patient, Morrowind makes you earn every step you take but its well worth it.

the wiki has tips for playing Mw if you're used to Oblivion
