Where the heck am I?!?!??!

Post by Hex Link »

Ok so I was exploring the mountains north-east of cheydinhal... then I got close to the end of the map and I already had been to the end of the map one time and it just says something like: "You cant go any farther". So since I wanted to see that message again, I walked further to the end...but no message came!
I was like: " maybe I have to walk a bit farther. So I was walking and walking and walking and the message just wouldnt show!
And then suddeleny I began seeing trees, a whole forest!!!! :shock:
I looked on the map and I was pretty far away from the actual end of the map...
So now I walked into this area and there I quicksaved to tell u guys about it :D
Now after finishing this post ill go back to exploring :wink:

Tho I think it's just an area realeated to some quest... oh well!

Here's a pic:

You are to far off of the Map, no quests out there. Strange that you passed the boundary, without changing the .ini settings for BorderRegions.

EDIT: although, do you have any mods running?

Well, your screenshot shows that you clearly have at least one mod active. Do you experience issues such as clipping through the trees and missing scenery? If yes, then I would guess that a mod is somehow interfering with the game boundaries.

He has DarnUI and a Map retex mod, but I don't think they're causing it.

Leaving the boarders in not something that a mod can change. BoarderRegions is in the .ini settings, and you have to manually change it yourself. I have several mods out of the boundaries, and none change it automatically. This is not to say some modders were not able to do it, just none that I've heard of.

Try fast traveling back in bounds, and save there. shut down, reboot oblivion, and see if you can do it again. This way you will know if it is a once off glitch, or if a mod chanaged your boundaries/borderregions.

If you can do it again, then you just have to figure out which mod did it. Although, if that is the only issue, then it's not really a bad glitch.

I think Anequina/Elsweyr either change the border settings, or require you to do it. Basically any mod that adds land.

But congratulations on your first trip to the great realm outside Cyrodiil! It goes on a long way, strangely, someone even bothered to put trees there, very lovely. At some point terrain will cease to exist, but I haven't gone that far, it's just too far.
If you like trees, I recommend black marsh :P

edit: Map markers? Well you could get the Map Marker Overhaul, you then can add a new marker to your location and go back then another time.

Yeah, in the mountains of the NE, I could see it taking a while. However, you could try following the coast SW out of Leyawiin. The boundry is closer, and nice easy traveling, rolling hills.

Hi,

If you've installed a mod that came with its own Setup program, or via OBMM and it uses an OBMM install script, it can modify Oblivion.ini. One OBMM mod I know that definitely does it is DarnifiedUI, to install its small fonts. Check your Oblivion.ini to see if the following settings have been changed to 0...

[General]
bBorderRegionsEnabled=1

[Main]
bEnableBorderRegion=1

Why there are two, I don't know. I simply enable or disable both to make sure. Anyway, I prefer them disabled (0) as it's more immersive not running smack into an "invisible wall"!

Hope this helps. :wink:

This got me thinking, has anyone ever tried traveling outside the boundaries of SI? As far as I know it's just water but I've never tried it.

I don't think you can get very far in SI, I can see the end of the ocean from the high cliffs...

And no, not me... but I've gone out of bounds inside the Oblivion planes. It doesn't require border disabling, just some godmode for lava trekking :lol: at one world, there is a sudden cutoff, if you jump down you'll be on a large flat plane, looking back, you can see the 'edge' of the lava and the land under it, like the thin cardboard surfaces they are. In some of the planes, the end of the 'proper level' are quite near. And my boyfriend saw something odd... he was in one oblivion plane, and saw a green quest marker pointing to another quest (Peryite's I believe?) but he was not in that plane. So I'm wondering if some of the Oblivion gate worlds are in the same exterior world. But it doesn't seem so in the CS.

Painted World has invisible walls (but no You Can't Go This way), Pale Pass has 'you can't go this way', despite its steep sides.

I recall reading something about gaps in the border regions of Cyrodiil, though don't hold me to that. Looks like you've found one. Me, I just disable bBorderRegionsEnabled and off I go, especially since I've recently populated an area of Morrowind with my vile modding skills.

Interestingly, some of the Morrowind landmass is full of trees and rocks miles out into the edges of the map, whereas other 'provinces' have absolutely nothing in them. I wonder why that is? Anyone?

Nope, sorry. The setting can only be changed by a .ini file only available to PC users.
