So it isn't so much the format of an MMO that we all hate, it's all the jerks that you play along side with that ruins, right? And I only ask because the only MMo I have really ever played in Runescape with hopes of playing WoW.GUM!!!! wrote:and vengar, that is why we don't want a MMO

yes, and the elder scrolls wouldn't be unique anymore, it would just be another "let's go kill the every thing we see and level up so we can kill even more things!"

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
I'd have no problem with an Elder Scrolls MMO as long as it's not replacing TES V. It would just take away too much that was essential to the single player experience, but at the same time, I feel like it could introduce a lot of new concepts to the series. Maybe bringing some of the other continents into the limelight, hmmm?
Still though.

I knew that they were developing a new game.
Everyone knew it. All this time, Bethsoft has been publishing all these games, and BGS hasn't announced a single game.
That's how I knew it. How we knew it.
I hope it'll be set in either Skyrim or Summerset isle. The chances are high for Skyrim, but it could also be Summerset.

I want it to be in Valenwood. Or maybe Black Marsh, those are quite interesting provinces.

Why not make an epicly huge map where you can venture to each of these regions. That's my 2 cents any way.

For various reasons I would think, this is how I see it anyway:Venger wrote:Why not make an epicly huge map where you can venture to each of these regions. That's my 2 cents any way.
1. You would have to have some amazingly powerful computer to process that data. Especially due to the fact that the graphics are most likely going to be at the point of seeming life-like in a sense, and all that AI...
2. That would take nigh on 20 years to make if they where going to do it 'properly' and up too the standard of it's predecessor's.
3. The company would loose 'a lot' of money. Why release one game when you can release 5? Unfortunately this is how it works, but it is kind of needed.
There's probably a whole lot more reasons why it isn't the greatest of ideas at this current point. Would be good if they ended the series like that though...

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
Why release 1 when you can 5? How about because that one game would kick every other game's butt from now till 20 years from now. true it would take just a mega-butt ton of graphics and all that jazz, but that's why you make it an MMO, progressive expansion. Don't dump it in our lap's all at once. Besides, MMO are usually immensely huge compared to console games, right?Newsound wrote:For various reasons I would think, this is how I see it anyway:Venger wrote:Why not make an epicly huge map where you can venture to each of these regions. Oh and there are amazing powerful computers available. Right now it is possible to buy the parts so your PC can run faster than NASA, the FBI, and the Pentagon's computer systems. COMBINED! A bit spendy, but doable nonetheless.
Hopefully, that massive loss in money will be quickly rectified by the amazing sales of a whole new game. Much like films. Spend 2 million bucks and hope it pays off at the ticket booths.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
I don't think you'd need such a powerful computer, to run it. I mean, thats the point of LOD textures and even then they could use MegaTextures. They could also take example of Bungie new LOD engine that renders meshes and textures ultra-low at far distances, but ultra-high up close. It allows many more meshes and textures running at once. If your wondering why Reach's graphics are so amazing, thats why!

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
Not when People are only buying one game, to get the money back for that sort of game they would have to charge an extortionate amount of money (more then they already do) to cover the cost of production on the game. They are trying to make more money from 'everyone' not just the rich that can afford it.Venger wrote:Why release 1 when you can 5? And I'm not even going to comment about it being an MMO, read mine and others earlier posts for clarity of why we think this is bad.
You could pay for a computer that powerful...if anybody had the money other then Bill gates and Alan Sugar. Besides games popularity only lasts for a certain amount of time, once everyone who is interested has bought the game and completed it many of those people will move on to something else. Graphics get better at an extreme rate every year, the game would become old news relatively fast.
They wouldn't get the money back, the cost for producing something that big would be something only EA could afford. And only because they create ridiculously cheap and un-original games which are just terrible but lure all the suckers in.
It isn't possible that would happen, unless of course each province was the size of a small town in Essex.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
You ninja'd me before I posted, I didn't realise that sort of graphic engineering was about.
One thing though, TES tends to remember everything you do in the game (because otherwise everything would reset to it's default position), if there was a game that big it would become crippled under it's own memory. I don't think that most people's computers are 'that' powerful. They have after all got to appeal to the masses and the console players.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
Well there were mods that helped with that sort of thing. Something that remembers those things 'smartly' could be produced. It might store information in a more efficient way, or reset reigons and cells you haven't visited in a while so the info is no longer required.Newsound wrote:

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
It would be a good idea for that kind of thing to be implemented in the next game, instead of holding all the information about so much stuff just archive it until the cell is activated. When the cell is activated, many of the other cells get archived again. Less data flow = more virtual memory.Spiney wrote:Well there were mods that helped with that sort of thing. There wouldn't even be a problem with the distant land interfering, just use that thing Bungie use. Interior cells would all be archived while out in exteriors.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
Firstly: The debate about the power of a PC running an elder scrolls game with all provinces, I just want to point out Just Cause 2, has anyone played this game? Its huge, and still manages to be sexy, I know it isnt an RPG and there are alot of other things to take into account, but still, I agree with Venger to a degree, although making an elder scrolls game with all the provinces would probably eliminate the need for any sequels?
Secondly: If it is in Skyrim, i cant wait to see the blizzard effects, and i hope they add a little immersion feature that makes it so you actually sink into the snow, just like the snow in Twilight Princess, that had great snow mechanics!
Thirdly: I hope TES5 has a better soundtrack; Twilight Princess had up to 100 different audio tracks, Kingdom Hearts had over 50, Bayonetta from what ive heard has at least 80,, and yet, Oblivion only had <10 although the tracks that exist were pretty good, they need to make more, like different music for night and day.

It could work, I'm not a computer expert I was merely making assumptions based on what I know.
No it wouldn't, there is a time line after all. Though the problem is that a game that big would take forever to make, besides I think the whole 'province' by 'province' thing is a brilliant way of doing things, gives you something extra to look forward to in the next game.Alucard wrote:I agree with Venger to a degree, although making an elder scrolls game with all the provinces would probably eliminate the need for any sequels?

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
Well, about the whole "Make the new game be the whole Tamriel" subject, I think if Bethesda managed to CREATE it, it's sales would be enough compensation. I don't think Bethesda would be dumb enough to sell it at the price of Oblivion and Morrowind. When Oblivion came out, it was, say...40 Euros (Just a guess, I personally have no idea, also, yeah, I'm from Europe). Well, this game would be the size of 5 Oblivions. So, logically, it would cost 5 times more. 200 Euros, at the time of it's release. I don't know, maybe I'm being naive here, but I think it makes sense. Maybe the price could put some people off you say? Well, not me. Definitely not me.
And, if sometime after it's release it depreciates to 100 Euros (I bought Oblivion at 20, 20*5= 100), that's still a decent income for Bethesda per game, right? Of course, another issue is creating the game. I don't know much about programing, but I can tell it wouldn't be an easy task. I personally don't believe it will happen, but what I'm trying to say, is that I don't think it'd be such a financially bad idea.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V Discussion
I don't think it'd take FOREVER to make TES5 contain all provinces. A fair bit of Oblivion was made with random gen. Just Cause 2 the same. If Bethesda or whomever makes can devise a clever random gen program, they could seriously cut down their production time.
