Graphics Glitching
I thought I'd try playing this game without any mods at all, so I uninstalled all of them, removing everything I was 100% sure belonged to a mod. Then I thought maybe reinstalling it would help better to get rid of what I missed, so I installed Morrowind and the expansions again, created a new character, and the graphics are glitching even more than they were before. Most noticeably the water, which flashed different shades of white continuously, making it impossible to see what was in the water.
So, as the custom seems to be here, somebody give me the really simple solution that makes me feel stupid.
Edit: I get:
"Failed to create shader Shaders\FauxEMBM_Displace.vso"
as the first error, and restarting didn't help at all.

Re: Graphics Glitching
How would I fix that, the problem itself was created by removing all the components of the game and then reinstalling it.

Re: Graphics Glitching
When you uninstalled, did you make sure there were no files left in the Morrowind folder? If not, these files are still there, glitching your graphics. Easiest way to fix this is to uninstall again, make sure all files are gone and then reinstall.

Re: Graphics Glitching
I just did that, making sure no files were left after uninstalling it. Then I reinstalled everything and the same error came up.

Re: Graphics Glitching
Are you on Vista? because the only thing I can recommend is that you 'run as an administator'. Morrowind just dies without it. DO this by right clicking.

Re: Graphics Glitching
Hmmm. Did it work fine with texture mods? just install them again, much better to look at anyway in my opinion.

It worked until I deleted stuff I never used and reinstalled it.

Re: Graphics Glitching
Quite possible that it just didn't install properly, it can happen. Perhaps try installing one more time. Make sure everything is removed properly too.

Although I have removed everything properly and reinstalled at least 4 times today.

Sometimes it asks you if 'the program has installed correctly' make sure you click YES. Seriously this has helped me countless times.

I've had that sometimes, though never with Morrowind, and I always clicked yes.

Re: Graphics Glitching
You know how I told you about Vista acting like a spoiled little girl? well this is another one of there tantrums. It will actually ask you if something hasn't installed properly (even though the computer should know....) , if you click no then it will reinstall a bit of it and then the program won't work. Click yes and everything is all fine and dandy.Caz wrote:What are you talking about Newsound? Never heard that before...

Re: Graphics Glitching
I think I'll restart, again...
Note that I don't think it'll do anything, but nobody else has any more ideas of things I haven't tried.
Edit: Well, I restarted, again, did nothing to help. I feel like bashing my head into the wall repeatedly as it's the only thing left to pass the time.

These things can be a real pain. It's like traditional flower game "loves-loves not-loves-loves not".
But it still seems you have some leftovers. The only thing I can think of, and what I would do, would be to
1. unistall
2a. clear registry
2b. clear unnecessary files and junk
3. defrag
4. reboot
5. reinstall
Hope you get it working.

I have a "prt sc" button, I'm assuming that's it, but it seems to be a secondary function of the key and I have no idea how to access it.Scozzar wrote:In the upper right hand corner, the should be a button that says, "print screen"Vicente wrote:How do you use print screen on a laptop?

Re: Graphics Glitching
in your morrowind .ini file there shood be a line saying:
Screen shot enable - 0
Change this to:
Screen shot enable -1
By doing this you can now take the picture inside the game, don't worry about it being a second command it will still work when pressed on it's own. I know because mine in the same

Either I don't know where it's saved or that still didn't work, I'm guessing both.

Re: Graphics Glitching
May be a bit late in the game on this one, sorry, but I had the same problem with Vista being a snotty little beast about hiding files.
What I did was do an advanced search on my computer for one of the save files or for Morrowind, and I made sure I checked the box to search non-indexed, hidden & system files as well. Yes, it took a while to search, but Vista had squirreled away some of the data files & saves. Doing the advanced search through the non-indexed files was the only way I happened to find it
I hate Vista...
Anywhoos, the directory line looked like this:
C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind
Now I don't recall ever setting my computer to use a VirtualStore system, but apparantly Vista likes to hide tidbits in there. Might be worth doing a full system search & seeing if this is the problem
