An uncertain future
Time can never be stopped, so Tamriel is inevitably going to go into the distant future. As we know from the end of Oblivion, tensions are high amongst the provinces, and there is possibly a struggle for power as the leader of the Empire and his bloodline are dead. The world continues on, and there are many possible outcomes that could affect Nirn. I want to know, what do you think is going to happen? You may select up to two options in the poll, so you can combine events together.
Nuclear Winter- The world becomes more and more technologically advanced, reaching the level or the modern world. Then, somebody learns to split the atom... and the world is plunged into a nuclear holocaust, destroying civilisation and giving Bethesda an excuse to copy and paste Oblivion textures into their next Fallout game. Explain how you think the secret to nuclear weapons is found, how the holocaust comes about, and the aftermath.
An Era of Peace- The provinces put their differences aside, a glorious new government is founded and the people live in peace. Explain how peace is made, how technologically advanced the people are, and just how peaceful Tamriel really is behind the scenes.
Stagnation- No advances are made, and the people stay in an era of superstition, magic and medieval style buildings. Explain why no advances are made, and how similar the world really is to Oblivion and Morrowind.
Dictatorship- An evil ruler takes over the empire, bringing an era of misery to the land. Explain how he (or she) seized power, how militaristic they are, and how miserable the people are. Do not bring real world politics into this.
Foreign Invasion- Another continent invades Tamriel and occupys it. Explain if the Sload, Maormer or Akaviri invade, and what they do in the occupation.
Guns and War- The world advances to the point where they have guns, and a civil war breaks out between the provinces. Explain what level of guns Tamriel has advanced to, and which provinces are at war.
Zombie/Daedric apocalypse!!!- The most fun one. The undead or Daedra roam the land, killing all they see. The few that have avoided them are now struggling to escape them in a battle that would make a hilarious survival game. Explain how the undead/daedra got there, how much havoc they've wreaked and how advanced civilisation was before they arrived.
Other- If I haven't covered something here, select this and describe what you think will happen.
Please note that this is just for fun, and in no way reflects what is actually going to happen in future Elder Scrolls games. Unless we get really lucky.

Re: An uncertain future
It could possibly be a combination of a few of those. With no heir to the Empire a military dictator could swoop in (Hyronemus, for example). His cruel rule could bring forth harsh restriction on the population. Mages studies could be restricted and possibly preventing the notion of science, and scientific analysis altogether, creating a stagnant phase where little improvement in technology is made. And possibly he might strongly enforce the religion of the Nine Divines, perhaps trying to beset this upon other provinces in the arrogant notion that they would adhere to his command. This could bring forth dispute, and possibly war between the nations. Maybe a grand war between all the races of Nirn. Near the end when all the nations are weak from the ongoing war, the deadra might take the chance and and finish the fight themselves.
All this could happen in the Future Nirn. With so many races and cultures, keeping relations in the green would be a tough challenge. If us humans can't remain peaceful, then a planet with 10 or so different races wouldn't seem to last that long either.

Re: An uncertain future
Im guessing it will be foreign invasion.Remember the sloads let loose the Thrassarian plauge in the 1st era 2200 which killed half the population of Tamriel, Why would they not do it again especialy since the Empire is in it's most weakest state

Re: An uncertain future
The empire will most likely fall, But Cyrodill itself might be under some other Imperial ruler's control. With the empire destroyed, There'll probably be Anarchy for a few years untill the provinces under the empires control find their respective leader. following this, any number of things could happen.
1.The provinces get violent, maybe the new leader decides the time for revenge has come
2.foreign invasion is also likely, maybe the Akiviri still want to war with Cyrodill
3.Peace amoungst all the provinces
As for tech, guns are entirely possible, but i don't think people will lose magic. It's a major part of Nirn, Not to mention a lot of it directly depends on it. And let's face it, Magic beats Mordern weapons. Look at the numidium.
Most likely, It will develop along side technology.

I see it as a bit of stagnation with possible unrest and foreign invasion. Wiht even normal people abel to cast fireballs and meteors and crap like that using spells and scrolls, what use is more advanced stuff like muskets which can only fire maybe 2-4 times a minute. I would like to see some kind of industrial revolution using stuff like steam power and manufacturing/build using similar components. I woud also like to see more of the Khajit and Argonian races rule jointly with the other races in Tamriel/Cyrodil in some kind of council.

Re: An uncertain future
IMO guns would ruin the Elder Scrolls. If Bethesda have got their meaty claws on the Fallout series they're welcome to shove in as much tech as they want, but the Elder Scrolls should always be the sword and sorcery epic type game. Maybe a couple of flintlock pistols, though, just for the pirates. What would be cool is a resurgence in mechanical tech. The Dwemer had steam powered machines and robots and the like, so it's entirely possible that that kind of thing could sneak into the game and just make it that little bit more modern, just so you don't get the same deal every time.
As for peace between the provinces - since TIC is most likely going to be canon I can't see much hope for Tamriel as a whole. Vvardenfell is gone, the remaining Dunmer fled and tensions remain high between them and the Argonians. There would obviously be high numbers of refugees coming from Morrowind, and they need somewhere to be kept and fed etc. That means resources will become strained, and fighting might start breaking out over what's left. Tamriel's always been a warlike place. I don't see that changing.

Sometimes, General my friend, you have to accept certain inalienable truths. This is one of the more painful.

I would imagine that Tamriel goes into a 2nd era state. Colovia turns to a feudal Russia state. High Rock goes to feudal French state. A bunch of City-States emerge, etc.

A huge civil war is what I'm thinking with the power of the Empire waning and all. Also, at this weakened state, a foreign invasion is extremely likely.

Re: An uncertain future
Well. I agree with previous posts, after Tamriel was weakened after the Oblivion gates and all of those invasion -most things are quite possible...
A Zombie or Daedric invansion seems unlikely to me. I mean, another Daedric invasion seems quite ir-regular after being, well, smushed by the players. A zombie invasion... Alright, now we're going to see a gigantic boss zombie who throws disease -turning everyone into zombies? I hardly think so.
Dictatorship, however, I think is quite possible. Like the NPC's say "We have no emperor, and no heir." We all know we have no heir, especially after Martin turned into a dragon and killed Dagon...
Maybe someone from the council will take over? A force of chaos and boredom..
Eh. Other seems more likely than the rest. Guns and War gives me the reaction of "....." and it just isn't very TES. A foreign invasion... An invasion from what exactly? We have the provinences, they all form Tamriel, all -were- ruled by the Emperor.. We just had the foreign invasion of the Daedra (A very good plot, if I may say.) Meh.

Tamriel is one of many continents on Nirn. Look it up on the wiki so I don't have to make peoples' computers load a picture of Nirn.sidheag wrote:Well. I agree with previous posts, after Tamriel was weakened after the Oblivion gates and all of those invasion -most things are quite possible...

Thankyou for telling me. But it doesn't mean that the continents other than Tamriel were affected by the Daedric invasion.

It's an interesting thought, but I'm afraid that Mundus is very different to our own universe. It's basically just one solar system with a few planets, and the Sun and stars are actually tears in the edge of it. There's a possibility that there could be Daedra living on Jone or Jode I guess, but it seems extremely unlikely.Argonanza wrote:Tamriel will be invaded by unknown races from another continent...IN SPACE!
