Re: The Tea vs Coffee thread
I have to cast my vote for tea.
See, with coffee, most people drink it for the caffeine rather than the taste. Hell, compared to tea, the taste is very bland and one-sided.
A good British Black Tea (I drink a cup of Bewley's Irish Breakfast Tea every morning) has about 3/5 as much caffeine as coffee, and the chance to develop a dependency on it is unlikely.
Anyhow, since tea is so broad, so dynamic, it'd be ridiculous for a single variety of bean to get the vote.

A cup of Pg tips contains the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee. Best thing is its released slower into the body and you dont crash afterwards.ArotosMarkos wrote:I have to cast my vote for tea.

Re: The Tea vs Coffee thread
I've never had a coffee crash. I don't get it with these people that come in after work all bloodshot eyes and moaning having drunk some coffee. That said, I'm a massive coffee person because they definitely know how to do it in Portugal...mmmm...espresso. Though I won't say no to tea. It's all I got last week on work experience.Newsound wrote:

Lol! bloodshot eyes ay? sounds like they went for more then a coffee break. Also I mean after drinking loads of coffee you can crash..unless you keep drinking it of course.Tom10320 wrote:I've never had a coffee crash. Re: The Tea vs Coffee thread
I tasted coffee only once in my life (I was a kid and mistook it for cocoa because it had milk in it) and it made me really sick. But I like the smell of coffee. Perhaps I should give it another try. With ice-cream to balance against the bitter taste.
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.

Or you could simply add sugar like normal people... seriously coffee on ice cream is not a win.Norroen Dyrd wrote:I tasted coffee only once in my life (I was a kid and mistook it for cocoa because it had milk in it) and it made me really sick. I've tasted coffee, with sugar, but I simply couldn't stand it, it was horrible!
Tea, however, is lovely. Though I'm not very familiar with anything but proper Chinese teas.

Re: The Tea vs Coffee thread
I can hardly imagine a single day without at least one cup of tea. Well, ok, I can imagine that. But such an occasion is as rare as the snow in tropics. Talking about coffee... It looks like mud and it puts me off. So I have never tried it. Although both tea and coffee are bad for your teeth...

Re: The Tea vs Coffee thread
I only have cold coffee from franchises. I had an espresso when i went to London on holiday at the national history museum, it came in one of those dinky cups too. I had one sip...My head hurt, my tongue tasted terrible and i had something to get the taste out, it didn't go away for a long time, neither did the headache
I'm not arrogant. I'm insecure.

Oh cousin, you should know that there are several varieties of "the bean", with as much a different taste to them as different kinds of tea.ArotosMarkos wrote:Anyhow, since tea is so broad, so dynamic, it'd be ridiculous for a single variety of bean to get the vote.

The Coffee page on Wikipedia wrote:Coffea is a large genus (containing more than 90 species)
So even at its lowest, it still beats coffee in the way of variety! And with herbal teas and an unlimited number of spices that are commonly a primary component, I think you can always find more teas than coffees. The Tea page, however, wrote:Camellia, the camellias, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae. They are native to eastern and southern Asia, from the Himalaya east to Korea and Indonesia. There are 100–250 described species, with some controversy over the exact number.
PS: Yes, I am aware spices can also be mixed with coffee, however Ibelieve they have a little more of an impact in teas.

Well thats technically a tisane, not a tea, so rule that out. You're right though, there are more varieties of actual tea than coffee.ArotosMarkos wrote:And with herbal teas
But there are heaps more bacteria than there is either tea or coffee, doesn't mean bacteria is better. I could really go for a nice hot cup of bacteria right about now though.

That's irrelevant. I am referring to varieties of tea, which ARE made for a standard beverage. Yes, there are many different kinds of bacteria. If this was a poll regarding a general's preferred pathogen to use as a biological weapon, the larger variety of bacteria WOULD be taken into consideration.Ethelred wrote: But there are heaps more bacteria than there is either tea or coffee, doesn't mean bacteria is better. Yes, I understand that you were simply trying to make a point, however it is rendered moot by the fact that BACTERIA AREN'T BEVERAGES. Tea's variety over coffee is an upside, because it is a variety of DRINKABLE SUBSTANCE, which is what this conversation is about.

I voted tea.
1. You can drink cold (ice) tea in the summer when it's hot.
2. It get rid of sore throats in the morning... that's why I'm gonna make me one now.

But coffee does both of those things and doesn't taste like boiled milk. It lines your throat removing the pain and a Starbucks iced coffee is just great. I had one in Lisbon a while ago, and just had to go back and get another.
