Fun Facts Thread

Post by Venger »

Got a fun fact? Post it here! Show the world just how much about nothing you know!

Here's a few for you: A hard working adult sweats up to four gallons a day.
Babies dream more than adults.
Due to gravitational effects, you weigh less when the moon is slightly over head.

Afraid some one else might already know yours? Post it any way. You'll never know til you do. And, by not telling you could be holding back infinite knowledge that may one day save some one's life. There, munch on that thought for a while.

The Browning 50 Caliber Machine Gun has been in use since 1933
John Wayne deeply regretted taking a part as Genghis Khan
President Calvin Coolidge won a second term in office without campaigning. (This makes him a Bad***)
The Soviet Military was primarily geared toward defense rather than offense.
Vlad the Impaler liked to eat while watching prisoners die slow painful deaths.
Edgar Allen Poe made about 9 dollars off The Raven
Chuck Norris finds the Internet meme humorous.
Dogs aren't actually color blind.
The bible outsells other books so often it was taken off the bestseller list.
Hitler killed his dog to keep the Soviets from claiming it as a trophy.
Humans have far more endurance than lots of other animals.
If California became it's own country it would have the 8th largest economy in the world.
Emperor Norton was the only Emperor of the United States. (Self Proclaimed... a wonderful character really.)
the ending to the movie I AM LEGEND was changed at the last minute.

That's all for now folks.

Polar Bears are known to mostly strike with their left claw so always greet them using your left hand to minimise the risk.

I'll leave it to someone else to explain how Polar Bears react to left-handed handshakes.

Have ya' taken a look at Californian politics of late? Independence would immediately be followed by popular revolt against iron-fisted taxation and runaway administrative spending.

Dangit, I don't even have a pitchfork. Just all these silly swords.

Fun Fact: the infamous "Dark Spark Fun Facts" aren't actually fun. Just somewhat morbid.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

When Frank Drake first used his Drake equation he estimated 10,000 communicative civilizations in the milky way.

On Saturn's moon Titan it has been found that there is a lack of certain chemicals and another that could only be formed by primitive life.

On Jupiter's frozen moon Europa, the pressure created by the outer ice layer heats up the water underneath making it possible that life could survive there.

(Btw, I'm a big supporter of life on other planets.)

Well 99.5% of space is empty.
If space is constantly expanding how can you calculate the percentage of emptiness?

Well the size of the universe is estimated at around 100 billion light years in diameter. Its found by measuring the speed of light times how old we think the universe to be (That being around 14 billion years). Also the observable universe may be only be a fraction of what really is there. As we are close to the center (well... roughly), there could be galaxies out there whose light has no yet reached us (possibly if the universe was a BIG bang and expanded quickly at the start of the event).

Just think The Milky Way is around 100,000 light years across. Our nearest galaxy is The Andromeda Glaxay which is about 2.5 million light years away. With the Universe expanding and there being so much space between everything that figure of 99.5% could rise.
