less than 5 minutes.
Now sit and wait 5 minutes.
Yes, still wait.
Just 10s passed.
Now it's approaching 15s...
Are you gonna wait 5 minutes? I don't think so.
5 minutes is helluva lots of time. Registration is annoying like the hell.
Even if it was to take 1 minute, it's still too much.

It takes more time to post than it does to register. I think there are only 4 required fields to enter to register (Username, Email, Password X 2). Daveh doesn't even require email verification here. If someone doesn't have the patience to register, they certainly shouldn't be posting.

the point is that posting should be as easy as possible for users, otherwise they won't post, it's no good saying "register or don't post" because they just won't register
that's like telling me (a firefox user) to use IE, i just won't do it, because i like to use a proper browser, not some program that MS stole and then broke.
providing a "enter the letters shown" type solution would work well, people don't have to set up an account (which they may forget about) and it at least seems much easier and simpler, which is the main thing, perception is everything.
so i think registration should be optional (for those that want to) but there should be a "fill in the data" type thing for guest posting too

You're required to register on just about every forum out there. It's for security, user tracking, and identification.
During soccer season, I like to referee soccer games. I'm a very accomplished soccer referee; one of the veterans in the town. We try to recruit new referees, and I try to share some of my knowledge with them when I can. Here's one thing I like to tell them that applies in this situation:

You see, people are going to get mad and run off no matter what we do. I'm sure when Daveh disabled anonymous editing on the main site, people got mad and left. And I'm sure if Daveh disables anonymous posting here, people will get mad and leave. People have the Right to Leave, and just let them be. This forum won't become dead by far. I still strongly support my vote to disable guest posting, and I hope you all will agree with me that guest posting is a bad idea.Whenever you are forced to make a judgement call, know this: Half of the people will love you for it, half of the people will hate you for it, and half of the people won't care either way.

good points, i agree with all of them, i have the same viewsAristeo wrote:I still strongly support my vote to disable guest posting, and I hope you all will agree with me that guest posting is a bad idea.
guest posting shouldn't be allowed if people are just going to spam and polute
i'd also like to request that mods delete these spam-posts too, this should encourage them to prevent guest-posting to save them the effort of cleaning it up all the time
Good idea. Currently, Vook and myself are mods for the UESP forum, and Daveh (of course) has administrative rights. If you see any spam, either e-mail me or PM me (the PM device of the forum will automatically e-mail me, so once I get back on my computer I'll notice and'll be able to respond), and I will immediatly take action. Alternatively, you can e-mail/PM one of the others I guess. Whatever makes you happy.Lee Carre wrote:i'd also like to request that mods delete these spam-posts too, this should encourage them to prevent guest-posting to save them the effort of cleaning it up all the time

i agree prehaps instead of "cafe/lounge" we should have a social forum with a "morrorwind style" name, but one that is still easilly identified as a social forumrkMerafel wrote:Also, we should have a lighter "general" forum for everyday "generalites" Y'know, a social forum.
i'm not sure how practical that would be, if it's not the the safest option would of course be just a simple "Cafe"/"Lounge" named forum
Didn't like the place. I think I prefer the Grey Mare, The Drunken Dragon, Bloated Float, Faregyl Inn, Border Watch Inn, or even Roxey Inn - or if you insist on Morrowind, Gateway Inn (I don't mind the haunt), Ghostgate (that place feels like home), or the inn at Dagon Fel, whatever it was called.
Gottshaw Inn would be nice, but the owner is rude. I had some hopes about Imperial Bridge inn until that stupid wizard took my bed and refused to move, and I was forbidden from using his own. Pell's Gate inn has no rooms for rent, and Wawnet Inn lacks this "something". And I don't like the most expensive ones, they claim to be god knows how great and in fact offer little or no advantage above the small ones.
Why Grey Mare? Pay once, use the room forever. Must be a glitch

Sadly i haven't played Morrowind, and neither shall i as it would make my PC go bananas. So hence i can only Oblivion Inn names. But what about Aleswell inn? I like the name. take Ales and remove it from well. What ya got? I'll tell ya! Ale's well inn. so, it's Ale is well Inn(or Ale's Well as in "The Ales Well", hinting a well of ale?*drool*) My god! I know it, i'm brilliant for one who has only posted 12 times (ATM)
PS: Aleswell is the little settlement on the square road just north of IC. It is the settlement that Altmer wizzy has made a ghost town due to a invisibility spell that hits everyone and every creature in the vincinity. The Roxey Inn keeper can mark it if you start talking about Aleswell.

I came, I read, I wrote.
