how to remove stuff from inventory?

the title says it all, how can I do it?

... I can't say the interface sucks, but I like the morrowind GUI more,,, maybe it is just a matter of habit

um, I'll guess that you're playing it on PC, and say that you press the Shift Key and while pressing it click on the item.

(It took me awhile to figure this out also.)

Yep, that's method 1, "drop". Method 2, "place": click and hold the item you want to put down. The UI will vanish and you'll be holding the item, able to move with it. Release=drop. Method 3: Open a container, click the "bag" item on the bottom, click items you want placed in the container. Warning, most containers "reset" deleting all the items that were in them from time to time.
