I would recommend a Fire-type, such as Ninetales or Arcanine (depending on your version) or Houndoom (once you get to Kanto).

The only Fire-type I can think of that's exclusive to Johto is Typhlosion.

You can only catch Remoraid in one specific lake in Johto. It's that one between Mahogany Town and Blackthorn City.

About Murkrow: Unless you're playing the remakes (which it doesn't sound like), then I wouldn't advise using one. Besides, you can only catch it in Kanto (or the new Safari Zone in the remakes). The main reason, though, is that Murkrow gets a new evolution in generation IV. The same goes for Misdreavus, minus the Kanto-only part.

If you can trade with someone, I would recommend catching and training an Abra or a Scyther. Otherwise, Skarmory is a good choice.

Despite being variations of the same move (they're the same type, even), the TM for Giga Impact costs a ton more than the one for Hyper Beam. In any generation 3/4 game, you can go to a department store and buy TM15 (Hyper Beam) for 7500 credits. But, if you try to go to the Veilstone or Celadon Game Corner to get TM68 (Giga Impact), you'll see that it's 20,000 coins. That's 400,000 credits in Sinnoh, or I don't even want to know how long you'd have to play Voltorb Flip to get that much. Game Freak must have been high when they decided to make Hyper Beam's new variation cost just over 50 times as much.

I started a new file on Sapphire.

My planned team:

Blaziken
Gardevoir
Swellow
Lanturn
Glalie or A Grass type.

My question is, is there any pokemon you would recommend replacing in there? Also, the Glalie/Grass pokemon issue could use some suggestions too. If you pick the grass pokemon option, give a suggestion. Thanks!

Breloom and Shiftry are two good offensive Grass-type options. But to get a Shiftry on Sapphire, you have to trade, whether with someone that has Ruby or a trainer in Rustboro that will give you a Seedot for a Ralts.

Go with Glalie if you don't plan to use Kyogre.

I forgot to mention that I was also unsure of Lanturn.

Basically what I'm asking is what would be some good Pokemon to complete the team of Blaziken, Gardevoir, and Swellow (and a slave Linoone).

EDIT: Where is the guy who can give me a Seedot? Because I'm thinking Shiftry+Glalie right now and teaching Gardevoir Thunderbolt.

EDITEDIT: Darnit that guy is only in Emerald! So I'm going Lotad (its evolution line) and Glalie. Unless someone else has a good suggestion based on the 4 Pokemon I had listed already :D

Hey, does anyone have the TM for Rock Slide? I can trade you a Mamoswine that already knows the move. I don't really need any specific Pokémon, so trading me anything that's holding TM80 would be fine.

Nobody?

And yes, I know this is a double post. I can also trade you a Mudkip if you want.

  • Feraligatr is pretty good, although in my opinion, Swampert is better, although unless you want to trade with someone, you'll have to choose between it or Sceptile.
  • Mewtwo is fine.
  • Sceptile is better than Victreebel, although Victreebel will be fine for most of the game. Sceptile is insanely fast (fastest Grass type for the win), plus it can hit moderately hard with special attacks.
  • I would recommend Lugia over Articuno, since not only can you get it earlier (90% of the time, I go to Pewter City before I go to the Seafoam Islands), but it's also overall stronger.
  • If you don't mind the drop in speed, I would recommend Ampharos as an electric type (unless you specifically didn't add that to your list). If you don't want Ampharos, then pick Jolteon, which is available much earlier.
  • From your Fire-type options, I'd have to say Ho-Oh. Its Sacred Fire is really powerful, plus you can get it before you fight the Elite Four for the first time.

I dont particuarly like ampharos.

i already beat the elite four and now im en route to the power plant. i like that jolteon is fast and has a REALLY high special attack bonus thingy. just zapdos is just... awesome.

i do have ho-oh and his sacred fire pwns face but i still like charizard...

when i get a starter pokemon from oak (i havent seen him yet to get one) should i get bulbasuar so i can have a massive grass platn type pokemon FTW when i need it???

heart gold is the first pokemon game ive played since the original gold back in the day

If you really want Charizard, then pick Charmander from him and get Treecko as your Hoenn starter. If you don't know how to do the latter, then click the spoiler.
Spoiler:
Go to the Silph Co. office building and go to the top with the elevator. You should see someone named Steven Stone there, who will eventually give you a choice between three differently colored rocks. Pick the red one if you want a Torchic, the green one for a Treecko, or the blue one for a Mudkip.
And by the way, Sceptile (Treecko's final form) is pretty big. The main difference between it and Venusaur is that Venusaur has high Sp. def, while Sceptile is really fast.

Unfortunately, the only sleeping move Sceptile can learn is Grass Whistle, and that's only as an egg move. It's not even that accurate (55%). Go for Sceptile if you want an all-out attacker, or Venusaur if you want a more supporting Grass-type.

Then I would say go for Venusaur, although anything that can use TMs can learn Toxic with TM06.
