Re: Oblivion Trivia!!!
Wild half asleep guess here; enchantment?
It was a skill (and generally considered very important) in Morrowind, but has been relegated to a service with preset limits on the type of skill and how powerful it can be.
Either way, the riddle makes me think that rather than something missing within Oblivion, we're instead looking for something that has fallen to the wayside compared to its role in previous entries (Dwemer might be another possibility given their importance in TESIII, and the fact that all you really see or hear about them in IV is the armor).

Those two quotes in tandem have left me confused for some time. You may have to reach farther than Morrowind, which is why Sutch feels like a plausible answer, and so does something related to the emperor.Oh, I'll give you this one, this wasn't in Morrowind.

More thinking outside the box: something to do with the HUD?

Re: Oblivion Trivia!!!
OK, even simpler answer...the game disc.
It's "missed, sent into Eternal limbo, replaced and forgotten, once integral then disposed" because the game data is no longer contained on the disc, so you don't REALLY need it to play the game. "Though not without a limit, perhaps forever cursed to this, only Time can tell" because of DRM.

It comes in the box, but we don't normally put it in the box and look down at it...we take it out.It isn't the box, but the answer certainly isn't in it. What could be outside the box that is the answer to this question? Well, it isn't entirely outside the box, but isn't like how we usually see it.

I've seen some good ones, but no. I was also a bit incorrect when I said something about Morrowind, it was apart of Morrowind, but in the same manner as it was in Oblivion.

Re: Oblivion Trivia!!!
Blah. So we're discussing something that is generically a part of The Elder Scrolls games, then, whether that's lore, mechanics, or physical details. And something that becomes disposed of, in some capacity. Simple things feel like they'd work best, like Arkay or the instruction manual. Suddenly "Only succeeded in the Spirit" becomes the most prominent line in the riddle, for what would that reference -- and are we talking about an actual incorporeal soul, or simply the essence of something?Kestral wrote:I've seen some good ones, but no. Thank you for cleaning up some of the linguistic ambiguities, btw.I've long been missed.

I can't recall if this has been guessed before and sorry if it has, but...is it the worshippers of Peryite?

More almost-certainly-wrong-but-oh-well-let's-guess-them-anyway guesses...
Gatekeeper
Xedilian
Ayleids
Welkynd Stones
Varla Stones
The Septim bloodline
Magicka
Some of them seem pretty out there, but that's why they're labelled as they are...

One feels like a cousin to the answer, I believe. All no, however.

Re: Oblivion Trivia!!!
I don't know if this one has been mentioned yet, but... Lorkhan, maybe? He doesn't get discussed much in Oblivion that I recall, but Mankar Camoran does make mention of him during his speech.

No, the problem there is that, while he's essentially a faded memory in Morrowind, he isn't discussed very much in Arena or Daggerfall.

I'm pretty sure Uriel Septim VII has already been guessed. If not, then I'll guess him now. I'll guess Jagar Tharn as well. They both seem like they might fall in vaguely with your most recent clue...

Re: Oblivion Trivia!!!
OK let me venture this, and take you through my thinking so if I get it wrong it might trigger something for someone else.
I'm thinking the God Shezarr:
I've long been missed.
i've been sent into a near Eternal limbo.
This is why I'm not convinced I have the right answer, as it doesn't answer this point yet. That he is the Nordic version of Lorkhan may be something to do with Mancar Camoran's statements about the nine being deceivers who usurped Lorkhan... or something
replaced and Forgotten.
once Integral, then desposed.
Was once one of the nine, he is now "he missing sibling god"
only Succeeded in the Spirits;
His place was eventually taken by Talos... The spirits being the Aedra (or Daedra)
though not without a Limit.
Again, I'm not certain what this means. Could refer to the end of the Septim line.
perhaps Forever I am to be cursed to this
Only the Time can tell
"His importance suffered when Akatosh came to the fore"
This also doesn't explain the capitalised letters, or the use of punctuation, but if I'm right I'll happily take credit, and if I'm wrong... hope it helps someone else

Re: Oblivion Trivia!!!
And once again, if I just waited a little while, I'd have an answer that better suits the question.
Let me try... the DOS system for running the game...
I've long been missed.
Meaning not just in Oblivion, but in Morrowind as well...
i've been sent into a near Eternal limbo.
replaced and Forgotten.
once Integral, then disposed of.
You once couldn't run a PC, let alone Daggerfall without DOS
only Succeeded in the Spirit;
though not without a Limit.
As in, I can't play Daggerfall on Windows XP without it.
perhaps Forever I am to be cursed to this
Only Time can tell
Some of us are rediscovering Daggerfall through a DOSBox...
Not so convincing, but then factor in the other two clues...
The capitalised letters in the riddle can be rearranged to:
FILES FIT OS
And think outside the box? As in, the game requirements printed on the outside of the box...
So, if it's not DOS, two other possibilities that might fit the riddle:
- the immersive size of Iliac Bay, which despite the increase in memory requirements has not been reproduced in the more recent games
- The XnGine, which powered Daggerfall but was rejected in favour of a different engine for Morrowind and Oblivion...
Anyway, let me know if this makes sense...

I must say all of those do make sense. Surely one of the more unique attempts, at things. But, no. However, those did hit closer to the answer.

Okay, so a cousin to either the Gatekeeper, Xedilian, Ayleids, Welkynd stones, Varla stones, the Septim bloodline, or magicka. Closer to either Uriel VII, Jagar Tharn, Shezarr, or the DOS operating system...
Ah, why not, I'll venture another guess...the Battlespire? It was destroyed during the Simulacrum, it was between Oblivion and Mundus, it used to be the training academy for battlemages and has since been replaced by the Arcane University...That fits all but the last two verses, and those can be explained by the idea of it being rebuilt in future games...

Re: Oblivion Trivia!!!
OK, to revise the anagram...
I originally thought FILES FIT OS...
Better idea: SO FILES FIT...
I'm thinking having to change discs during the game. My first copy of Daggerfall came on one CD, but as I remember Arena it was something like 8 discs which you would have change between regions...
