Hey!
i am running ubuntu 9.10, and trying to get daggerfall (original release) to play on dosbox. got it running, but the sound is all honked up. "digital" gives me choppy sound, and nothing comes of the midi test.

*puts on geek cap*
I just installed (also on 9.10) and I'm having the same problem, the extent of which varies depending on the settings. I have a pretty good idea of what is causing the trouble: Pulseaudio. (Who would have thought
) What Dosbox wants is esd.
Here is the solution:

Here is the solution:
- Open synaptic and install the package libsdl1.2debian-esd.
- Open a terminal and type the command
Code: Select all
export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=esd - For Digital, use the settings given on the wiki: Sound Blaster 16/AWE32, Port 220, DMA 1, IRQ 7
- For Midi (which also did not work for me), instead of MPU-401, I tried Pro Audio Secptrum 16 (Port 388) which seems to work like a charm

Re: sound
better! sound is still super choppy, but i can almost make out the words, and the midi plays something now, albeit not well. could be the celeron m and near 100% cpu causing such problems though. if i had to guess.

Ah... well I wasn't having too much trouble in the first place, and this just got rid of most of the stuttering. Mess around with the different settings (especially the different IRQ settings) and see if you can get something better out of it
Other than that, I don't think I can help much.

Re: sound
Thanks for the tips. I really think my problem stems from the lappy it is on, trying to emulate dos. maybe i will throw a dual boot on it just for daggerfall. I didn't think of it till this weekend, but i would have put ubuntu on my ps3, and tried daggerfall there, alas, i have already updated. such is life. that would have been wicked though, daggerfall on my ps3...
