Boo! Ain't it scary?
So. Did you ever feel scared or tense while playing Oblivion? I always get goosebumps while exploring that root cave in the SI where you have to find... uhm different ingredients to rebuild the Gatekeeper. And I was positevely thrilled while wandering around Arkved's tower for the first time. Are there any locations in the game world which made you uneasy?
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
But why bounce around to the same damn song?
You'd rather run when you can't crawl...

I nearly had an accident in my pants (no reference to Andy Samberg here) after I killed Ungolim for the Dark Brotherhood quest and Lucien Lachance came up to my and was like "YOU MUST DIE, JK!!!11one". It scared the snot out of me.

Every time that a wolf or bear sneaks up on me and the first I know of it is when they hit me (no I'm not particularly attentive).

You're inside someone's house, stealing some stuff. All of a sudden you hear "STOP! You violated the law!"
I used to make polls, but then I took an arrow in the knee.
Re: Boo! Ain't it scary?
Yeah. My heart has skipped beats before while playing oblivion with the volume up. I especially remember at a low level clearing out Rockmilk cave, and was leaving, wasn't paying attention, and a bandit had been sleeping in the bed near the entrance and he/she jumped out and started beating on me with an axe.

What i really really hate is when the battle music starts playing in a dungeon and I'm just circling trying to find where it is when suddenly... i get hit.
I'm not arrogant. I'm insecure.

Re: Boo! Ain't it scary?
The only time I ever got spooked was when I first started playing (I played Oblivion before Morrowind), and I was a Khajiit in Leyawiin still getting used to the game. I went to sleep in the Fighters Guild and woke up prematurely to Lachance in my face.. Creepy enough for me to sleep only at Cloud Ruler Temple until I figured out what it really was.

Re: Boo! Ain't it scary?
Mathieu Bellamont's basement. OMG, I was so tense down there, with the scary music playing and everything. When that dog jumped out at me, I almost fainted. Then once I was standing around in a cave waiting for an enemy to come since the battle music was on, and a GOBLIN fell from ABOVE my head right in front of the screen. That made me literaly stop breathing for a second.

Ring-a-ding, baby.

The mages' guild quest when you have to go into the cave and kill the vampires. I was worried they were gunna jump out at me. Its not the thing that happens with me its the anticipation of it going to happen.

Re: Boo! Ain't it scary?
The first time I ever played Oblivion, I was going through the tutorial dungeon and the wall collapsed for the combat tutorial with the rats. Having finished Morrowind a short while ago, I thought nothing of it. I drew the steel short sword I picked up, got ready for them, and...promptly jumped in my seat when one of them threw himself at me.
Apparently I missed the memo about Cyrodiil rats' ability to jump considerable distances...

The invisible rats near Aleswell really startled me early on. I was just wandering about, didn't have a clue about the Zero Visibility quest, or even Aleswell for that matter. All the sudden, I'm being attacked. (!?) I'm turning in circles, trying to find what in the world is attacking me, and can't see a thing. I just started randomly swinging my sword and turning, and by luck I got 'em. Startled the crap out of me. That was the moment I discovered the value of detect life...

Re: Boo! Ain't it scary?
It makes me jump sometimes when I'm wandering the wilderness, and the fight music starts to play, but I don't see anyone. Then, all of a sudden, I get whacked, and it usually takes several seconds for me to figure out it's an archer, and not something invisible.

Re: Boo! Ain't it scary?
Oblivion really isn't that creepy or scary to me. Something like L4D can create a scary surroundings, and I was creeped out by Penumbra, I refused to play. So all you need to get me going is the dark surroundings and only a flash light to illuminate stuff. Also the fact that there might be something around the corner, which Penumbra does very well.

Because of scary dungeon experiances, I ALWAYS carry a torch, like, everywhere. Even in town.

I used to get scared about dungeons before I realised that they weren't scary.
Now they're just loot factories.

Re: Boo! Ain't it scary?
The plains of Oblivion and the way the sky turned red when near a gate used to make me say "Ahh [&@%!] this I'm going home...". Not only that, the Sigil towers with the Corpse Crushers and the darkness and Clanfears didn't really scare me but more or less intimidated me.
Later on though, when I got more used to the game, I learned that nothing should intimidate you in Oblivion cos you'll always have an Invisibility spell...

Re: Boo! Ain't it scary?
Now I really remember what scared me. That zombie that jumps out and attacks you in vilverin. That thing scared the crap out of me and I had a lot of trouble killing it. That and stealing was something I never had really thought about and that scared me because I felt like we were living in a wet paper bag, and all of our locks were probably "very easy". That never quite went away though... I must say Oblivion has made me a little more paranoid. Like after playing for a while and having to take the dog out at midnight, I would bring a knife and constantly be looking over my shoulder, and such

Re: Boo! Ain't it scary?
OOO really can add up the fright factor. When walking down from Cloud ruler temple to bruma (i have all the city fast travel points turned off so i have to go to the town first) a ficking frost titan (A white minotaur) came out of nowhere and started beating me to a bloody pulp. I had to run into bruma (open cities) and get the gaurds to help meHunter22 wrote:There is more a tenseness at early levels, specially on OOO.
