PC vs. Console

Post by FilthyNord »

I bought Oblivion about a year ago for my PS3, having a PC which did not have a GPU capable of rendering Oblivion at anything like acceptable levels. Been playing the game, investing massive amounts of time, and then my PS3 (old 60GB model) bricked. Well, the BD drive wore out, is what happened (probably from playing Oblivion for 500 hours).

So I wanted to get my Oblivion fix ... I tried it on my PC, but it was unbearably slow, since my PC is about five years old. Then I went out and bought a Radeon 4670, and am now running Oblivion on my PC at 1680 x 1050. What a HUGE difference from the console! This is incredible. The mods and the resolution and the graphics ... I've really been missing out on PC gaming these past few years. It's easy to see why people get so hooked. I am really happy I made the change. Console gaming seems SO unappealing to me now ... I can hardly wait until I build a REAL gaming PC. The one I have now would probably croak on any type of modern game, since it's got a 4xAGP card in it...

This is awesome!

While I can agree that playing on PC can be extremely satisfying (better graphics, mods, view distance!!!), I've never been able to fully enjoy it due to using a mouse and keyboard to play. I just really prefer the Xbox 360 control. I know that it is possible to play on PC with an Xbox 360 control, but last time I tried it didn't work as well as I would have liked.

Not trying to start a PC vs console war here, but I've grown up playing both PC and console games for 20+ years. For this particular type of game, I much prefer keyboard and mouse to using a controller, particularly when it comes to things like navigating menus and precision targeting. Of course, mods are nice too.

I agree with you. I feel that the keyboard and mouse is a much more precise controller for FPS games, and games such as Oblivion. It's just a better experience in my opinion. I respect the opinion of others, but I feel that consoles are a bit too overrated. Many people overlook the PC as a sufficient gaming system, but it really is great if you have the proper hardware configuration. The real problem is ignorance, but we won't get into that now. ;)

I believe this can be locked, as we have another similar topic which is more popular.

I used to play Oblivion, then I took an arrow in the knee.
