Vampires vs. Werewolves á la "New Moon"!

Post by Milder Despues »

So, lately, I've joined the girls in my class in being overly excited about the Twilight films. :P

And I actually had this idea before I saw the movie (ah, who'll believe me) about which are more powerful in Morrowind, vampires or werewolves.

Obviously the Wolves beat the everliving mojo out of the vampires in-game, but I'm looking for some more interesting opinions, so let's see this through a lore-point of view shall we?

I vote Vamps!Got a feeling I'm in a minority here, but we'll see..

I say werewolves because they're faster and probably stronger. With a hand-to-hand as high as they do, it's likely they could beat the crap out of a vampire.

If you take into account all the magic powers that have been attributed to vampires over the years, the vampires would win.

Why do vampires and werewolves always have to be against each other in anything where they both exist? Why not work together... or even better, the dreaded Vampwolf.
“Fine day” said the young man.

“Gods!” hollered Zaki, sending the young man flying with a well-placed punch, and dashing away.

In a 1 vs 1 fight, a werewolf would most likely win.

Vampires are much much cooler, though.

Right, doesn't seem like anybodys' a fan of the lore-perspective, so lets take into account game mechanics!

Pros and cons (that matter in a fight):

Vampire:
Increased attributes and skills. (I know skills can go above 100, not sure about attributes).

Werewolf:
Fixed stats (at 100 or below).
Double health
Claws as weapon
Weakness to silver weapon.

I think the werewolf loses out big time by not being able to use magic, armor and weapons. Also that the vampire has the potential to jump farher and run faster than the werewolf (right?). Even so, it'd be close, seeing as the claws are great, and that they have lots more health. I don't think comparing the vampires in the game against the werewolfs (who are in the expansion and some of the toughest monsters in the game) is really fair.

To sum up my views on how I think it'd go, the vampire is more sneaky and can run around putting arrows and magic and attack the werewolf. The werewolf however, can survive quite a lot and if/WHEN it catches the vampire, he/she's a goner. :)

You've got it mixed around there. A werewolf can run on all fours and jump like nobody's business. That's the huge advantage they have, to be able to run away and sleep/heal.

Here's an idea: Use the console to spawn a werewolf and a vampire, both the same level, in the same cell. Make them hostile to each other, hide, and see who wins.
And when things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.

Let's see, I guess you'd have to

turn yourself invisible, go into say, the Arena, spawn a werewolf and vampire, use the StartCombat command, set their levels and go!

Well, I was still on about on about my in-game ramblings there. And from a more general pont of view, I also think that werewolfs jump better, but not sure about them being faster..

Wherein lies the problem. I've no doubt that the werewolf would win this. But the advantage of being a vampire is that you're able to use items, so it would'nt be fair to not give him any. On the other hand, you can give him the perfect equipment that will make him squash the werewolf. And that ain't fair either.

Let's say your average level 50 NPC became a werewolf. Agility, Endurance, Speed, Strength, Acrobatics, Athletics, Hand-to-hand and Unarmored will all increase, and a level 50 NPC might already have some of them at 90.

All of the non-quest-associated werewolves in Bloodmoon are level 50-100, so even with a silver weapon I think an average vampire wouldn't make it far.

I think it can be viewed as this: As an NPC, werewolves are more powerful. As a PC, vampires are more possible. It all has to do with how, in just a few minutes, you can have far better armor and abilities than just about any NPC in the game.

Nope, they are set to a fixed value, in some cases lower than what you had before. Whereas the same level 50 npc becoming a vampire gets the bonuses added his current stats. But like I said before, not sure about attributes, only the skills.

Insert Bloodmoon silver weapons here (especially the ones with paralyze enchantments) and I think you are wrong. 8) At least understating quite a bit.

A Morrowind debate. I love these :D Though I generally lose.

I mean in the shoes of the player, so to speak. I'm certain about the skills, though you may be right on the attributes. If only there was a way to actually test this in the CS...

The only problem is, there are no vampires in Bloodmoon. :D A non-enchanted silver weapon would be more dangerous to a werewolf, yes, but it's still likely the NPC would lose.

We really ought to test this. :?

Then you have never faced me.

Well, I mean in the shoes of the player too, but not sure what you mean by it. :P In what way are you certain about the skills, that they are increased for a werewolf? And I'm sure it's testable in some way, but all I'm saying is from pure memory.

I try to view this whole thing from the shoes of the player. That is to say, you level your own character to a high level and then consider what he'd be more powerful as, a werewolf or a vampire. Doesn't an enchanted silver weapon do double damage against werewolves? If it does, I stand by my point that the bloodmoon silver weapons are nasssty.

If you do mean from the view of the actual player, then I know from experience. I can't remember the exact levels, but I believe my speed and agility were maxed out. The bonuses for the werewolf are just one-sided toward stealthy combat, while the vampire's vary.

Even a regular silver weapon does double damage, I believe. But my point is, the werewolf, if low on health, could easily escape from the vampire to rest. However, if in the Arena, well, it's more evenly matched. Again, we need to test this.
