I've always preferred heavy....I'll even have my thieves wear heavy sometimes...just no boots.

I only ever use light if I need to sneak somewhere or kill someone like an assassin. :D

i always go with light armor except for the shield.
My characters are never tanks, and can't carry all that much weight,
so heavy armor is just too much.

I go with heavy with light boots and gauntlets so my light doesn't get left too weak and when my endurance is on 100 I stop using heavy and only use light. An Armour increase tip = the first fighters guild in anvil has a basement with four rats in wear the armour you want to increase and hit each rat with something weak e.g. fists and all four will attack you with small damage and your armour goes up very quickly, use potions/restore to heal yourself if these arent effective enough leave the basement and wait outside the door and you can go straight back in and repeat the process (this doesn't effect the missio)

My current character wears heavy, but usually I prefer light simply because heavy weighs so damn much. If I unload my current character of everything non-essential, she still carries an encumbrance of 135, and that's with the bonus from being highly proficient with heavy armor. (I don't carry much, and use a quest item weapon that is weightless.) When you start a character with 30 strength, is not melee-centered for future strength gains, and might not develop heavy armor "affiniity," it's not very feasible to use.

In Morrowind, I liked medium armor as a healthy compromise. It's not obnoxiously heavy, but it does do some good.

When I wear armor, I prefer Light Armor. This is due to the fact that Heavy Armor makes one move too slow for my liking, and when it doesn't (Heavy Armor skill 100) I feel that it should. :P

Of course, for mages, I prefer no armor at all, as I like Illusion magic. Thus I vote clothing, with Light Armor being a close second.. especially Mithril armor.

light armor is great for low levels when you cant carry alot of stuff, and when you get to higher levels it helps with its light weight and its +25% boost for wearing all light armor

and in my opinion it looks better

I prefer light armor, mainly because I tend to play stealth orentated characters. Sure, at skill level 100 heavy and light armor are the same defense and weigh nothing, giving heavy the advantage with its high duriablility, but how often does anyone get their skill that high?

Plus, light armor looks cool. Except the helmets, they'll all kinda funky looking.
... and you know, I don't actually have an Orc character.

Unless you're going for a heavy fighter that relies on nothing else than close fighting, you go for light armor. At least I do. It just looks cooler and makes it easier to sneak and generally move around.

Either, since my skills in them are both 100. I usually use heavy for a dungeon crawl and light when I'm feeling happy or feel like a spot of role-playing. As I did yesterday, when I put on the KotN armour and went on a equine tour of Cyrodiil to cleanse my infamy.

Naked's good.
Honestly it depends far too much on the character. Penalties are steeper for magic effectiveness when wearing armor in my game, so heavy, light, and clothing are all viable outfitting depending on the specialty. And, of course, naked is the preferred armor for hot characters.

considering the question is what is best, i would agree that it depends entirely on the character. i usually prefer heavy armor, being a more combat-oriented player. my current main has a main for both just cuz I wanted to see which one really was better. In doing that I'd say if you have to wear armor, either is perfectly capable. (light if you prefer to dodge your opponents attacks and heavy if you just take them or block.)

I havent really tried an all-mage character (too out of my natural style, i feel uncomfortable playing like that), so clothing isn't something I've tried much. I'd prefer armor.

normally I'd automatically put naked as out, but that would really all depend on your character again. :Twisted Evil:

Unarmored, or light. No sense lugging around 2 billion pounds of metal when you could be carrying loot instead!

For my current character, a mage/thief, I use posh upper class clothing by day and sneaky, dark clothes by night. I like all the armor types but If i'm using them I don't always wear a full set. I usually mix light and heavy eg. chainmail and steel, and wear bits from both sets at the same time.
Is this meant to be witty, informative or deep? I doubt I can manage all three.

as i love heavy armor and wore it pretty much the start of this new game i'm working on... a question for you... does not wearing any boots make a difference in damage you take on?

I noticed with sneaking in the heavy armor it makes entirely too much noise. I thought about just wearing no boots until I needed to fight... then equiping them quickly but it would take too much time and i'm lazy; plus all my hotkeys are being used by more important stuff. :P
