Mythic Dawn Guard in Oblivion tower?

Post by dokcal »

I guess the topic pretty much says it all: I came upon a Mythic Dawn Guard--at least that's what it said he was on-screen--on the top floor of one of the gate-control towers in a random Oblivion world.

It's after the Battle of Bruma but before going to Paradise, and I'm hunting random gates for sigil stones. In random world 3, I sneak to the top of the eastern Blood Well tower, and there's this balding Imperial standing there--It's the guy who's usually in the cage! I try to talk to him, just out of curiosity, but he doesn't respond, other than the generic Mythic Dawn audio "My Lord shall never be defeated" or whatever. He doesn't attack me, either. Just stares at me... looking rather pleased, actually. Hm.

Soo... I go back into sneak mode, leave the tower, and head out across the "overpass" between the two gates. Suddenly, the "sneak" symbol lights up... I've been spotted! But how? I dispatch the Dremora in front of the sigil tower and turn around... and there's the MDGuard just standing in front of the gate tower! WTF?

I ignore him--I'm not going to kill him, because he hasn't attacked me and I don't want a "murder"--and head into the sigil tower. I duck into one of the side passages... and I notice the MDGuard enter the tower after me. He yells something else about how nifty Dagon is, the sneak icon lights up again, and the freakin' Daederoths and Xivlai are all over me. I take care of them... and the MDGuard leaves. Just turns and goes. Freaky.

I should have followed him out and messed with him some more, or at least saved the game right there so I could re-load it later... but I didn't, for some reason.

Anybody ever run into this situation? This is my third time through the game, and this was new to me!

I think you've more or less found the Oblivion version of Half-Life's Gman.
... and you know, I don't actually have an Orc character.

I've seen the Mythic Dawn member in the cage before, but the member getting out of the cell (remember, just because they're in a cage doesn't mean that they can't leave the cell by technical standards) is probably due to an oversight.

The only thing I can think is that his ID code somehow got switched with the random daedra who's supposed to be there. I mean, he is supposed to be in that tower, just not running around loose.

As for following me around and "outing" me... Beats me!

That would be funny if the deadra was in the cage instead.
If somethign doesn't look right look at it again.

But if you do that you waste more of you life.
