Re: Why does everyone love the dunmer?
I think people just like them because of their blue skin and tribal nature. I've never used them much because I prefer races that are bias in skills. Dunmer are kind of the "middle grounds" in class creation because their pretty much equal across the board. That's the only reason I can come up with.

Ya i get why they like them for the skills, but why do people like the blue skin that was always the turnoff for me.

Re: Why does everyone love the dunmer?
It's different. People get bored of the same appearance being recreated in a variety of games and the Dumner showed something that not many others had before them which is the blue skin and red eyes. They're completely unique from the others and have a more wild sense to them in the fact that most of them are tribal.

Maybe for the Gates of Oblivion because of fire resistance. Maybe for their balance between destruction, melee, and marksman. That's just my opinion. I usually pick the Argonian or Breton.

I enjoy Dunmer for their skills, I also enjoy them for the Lore.

A lot of people have said that they enjoy the lore aspect of the dunmer. I think it's cool that they have wise women and stuff just like real tribes. There's just something more appealing to me about a tribe versus a guild. I guess that's my favorite part about the dunmer.

I played Morrowind first. So, I'm sick and tired of dunmer, so I never play as them.

Dunmer have some of the most extensive lore behind them, which certainly attracts me to them. They're jack of all trades skill set is quite nice, and they make great dedicated mages, thieves or warriors, or even better hybrids.

I gotta say that its the lore behind them. Dunmer have some of the most original and diverse history I've (personally) seen in fantasy.
... and you know, I don't actually have an Orc character.

Re: Why does everyone love the dunmer?
To be honest?
I don't like the Dunmer at all. They're pretty average, their appearance is a little clichéd in that it was simply an attempt to be different, and they somehow swapped from rough tribesmen to upper-class twits in between Morrowind and Oblivion, with no offense to Craig Sechler. There's the whole lore thing, but personally, I prefer the people whose history is a little blurry and prefer order and guilds.

Re: Why does everyone love the dunmer?
I don't really like the dunmer, to me they're not good enough at any one aspect to be worth the trouble. As for the lore, it doesn't really matter when you're troll slaying.
Nord > Dunmer.
Nord > Dunmer.
Yes, having a full set of enchanted madness armour, goldbrand and 500 mega damage scrolls is pretty cool. Fighting Mehrunes Dagon while wearing that is pretty awesome. Doing the same job with an ancient akaviri katana and beggar's clothes is plain badass.

Which is usually where that sentence ends; I think a lot of the people who are really big Dunmer fans are people who spent a lot of time with Dunmer characters in TES3 and its expansions. I've actually heard more Dunmer-fans complain about the blue skin than anything else.urthdigger wrote:I played Morrowind first.

Re: Why does everyone love the dunmer?
Well, at first, I hated the Dunmer. I hated the way their skin was blue and their stats were high. I thought "Bleh. Soo unrealistic. I know it's a fantasy game, but I like them to be believable at least."
But over time, I got used to the blue, and actually started to like it. The blue and the red. I like dark colours, and red is my favourite colour. I also thought their personalities were awesome.
Then I read the set of The Real Barenziah books, and I love their history.
So, with the balance of skills I love (Blade and Destruction magic are my favourites!), as well as a look I also love, a background I love, I just love the Dunmer. I've also become obsessed with Morrowind, even though I know nothing about it and haven't played the game. (I've experimented with removing borders from the game and going into the area that is technically Morrowind, and doing some work there, but I'm not quite good enough to make anything special.)

Re: Why does everyone love the dunmer?
I might get taken to ask for this but I've always played Dunnmer males and while 'The Real Barenziah' is an...ok...story, (please don't hut me), I almost wish that there was another story bout the average Dunnmer man. (The books 'kind of' touch on the subject but I'd love to see a more detailed telling...)
I will say, I do miss their deep gravely voices from Morrwind.

Re: Why does everyone love the dunmer?
I like playing Dunnmer males (I find the blue skin and eyed eyes really cool) but the whole 'Dunnmer females are realllyyyy promiscuous' thing just makes me want to facepalm.
(I'm not a prude by any stretch but I find that aspect of dark elf life to be kinda...tacked on. No real rhyme or reason to it. It seems more of a 'lonely nerd fantasy' aspect than anything else...well thats how I see it anyways.)
So aren't Dunnmer males the same way? Why are their any 'true' Dunnmer left with all their females 'hitching a ride' on...err...anything.

Re: Why does everyone love the dunmer?
I actually despise the Dunmer with a passion. the first Elder Scroll game I played was Morrowind (remember their stuck-up, I-hate-you-ness? particularly to Kajiits and Argonians, my favorites) learning that was their homeland, I hoped that would at least change for Oblivion (taking place in Cyrodiil and all), but nope, the very first guy you meet is some dunmer calling you a lizard (again, I started as Argonian) and saying "you suck, you're going to die."
really, i'm not quite sure why people like them other than their stat bonuses and such.

I think they, and the Bretons, make the best old looking characters. If you want to make an old man/woman, Dunmer does a really good job with it.

want to see a primitive tribe vs a guild? plant a goblin tribe staff in a guild hall, and watch as the goblins attack! make sure you turn invisible so that the goblins don't attack you...unless you want to join the battleReaper67 wrote:A lot of people have said that they enjoy the lore aspect of the dunmer. Try not to double post so much, Wrpen!
And I don't hate or love the dunmer. I think the NPCs are annoying, but being one is fun because they are a "Jack-of-all-trades".
