Joining the theives guild... affect other guides?

Post by Captslapaho »

If you were to join the Thieves Guild OR the Dark Brotherhood... does it affect your position in the Mage/Fighters guild? I've often wondered about that or is your joining of the Thieves Guild like a super secret thing that nobody knows about other than the other members... I haven't joined the theives guild or the Dark Brotherhood yet because of course I don't want it to affect my position or me being in the guild.

yeah yeah sounds kinda stupid but I was just wondering :)

Only one Thieve's Guild quest can have any impact on your standing in other guilds (Mage's in this case). In this case, the character even becomes friendly, rather than forcing you to kill a fellow member, so it isn't really that difficult to maintain your standing.

I don't think it affects your standing with other guilds, though the infaminy you'll acquire will of course keep you from doing the Knights of the Nine stuff.
... and you know, I don't actually have an Orc character.

I remember that quest quite well. I was expecting this to happen before I started the quest, so I collected 20 Daedra Hearts just to be ready to get back into the Mage's Guild. Good times... ;)

Hey thanks! I appreciate it.

as far as the mages guild goes... really nothing to worry about? I just got all the recommendations and need to actually go to the Arcane Uni. to start those quests and really didn't want to mess anything up for myself.... like getting kicked out.

Yeah, it's not a big deal. It's pretty easy to rejoin if you are kicked out (you aren't demoted or anything). As for the quest, the item isn't his property, so it isn't stealing. As long as you don't take anything else, and you don't actually attack the wizard, you'll be fine.

There are conflicts between the other guilds and quests within the Thieves' Guild itself, mostly stemming from the fact that you'll get punished if certain people die while you are committing a Thieves' Guild quest. Some of the other Guilds have missions that involve the deaths of NPCs, sometimes the very ones you are prohibited from killing.

For example, there's a Thieves' Guild quest set in Skingrad Castle, which means you'll have to pay a Blood Price if anyone living in the castle dies while you are doing that quest. There's a Mages' Guild quest where a resident of the castle is killed. Do the two at the same time, and you end up paying the Blood Price, even if you're not the one who killed that person.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.
