F major, sharp, sustained fourth is all me and my6 years of music education can get out of it. Then again, I know very little about the piano.
And when things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.

The White House was originally called the President’s Palace. Theodore Roosevelt gave the White House its current name in 1901.

No, it went President's Palace since foundation laid -> White House in 1901 to the now.Kestral wrote:President's House*RobotNixon wrote:The White House was originally called the President’s Palace. Theodore Roosevelt gave the White House its current name in 1901.
If it was "President's House" Roosevelt probably wouldn't have had a problem with it.
But since he couldn't stand to live in a "Palace", he changed it.

The name White House actually appears earlier in American history.

If you mean they're left handed: nope. It's a common urban myth. Most are ambidextrous, like most animals. Humans are only really left handed or right handed because learning to write with both is incredibly difficult.Agares wrote:All polar bears are southpaws (no pun intended)

Raw cashews are poisonous, you have to cook them first to burn the poison off. If you ever see cashew growing, don't eat them.

amendment to moon fact earlier: the moon is moving 34mm away from the earth every year. This movement is due to the tides exerting their own gravitational force on the moon in a very slow slingshot effect (which is ironic since the moon started the tides off in the first place)

When you hear something incorrectly but sounds exactly like the correct word/phrase it is called a mondegreen.
For example in Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze around 1:54 it sounds like he says " 'scuse me while I kiss this guy" but he actually says " 'scuse me while I kiss the sky"

Heh. I always thought it was around the other way, and that loads of people thought it was sky, but it's actually this guy. That is, however, because of a cover I heard where they say it much more clearly and not my own inadequacies.Guy No. 2 wrote:" 'scuse me while I kiss this guy" but he actually says " 'scuse me while I kiss the sky"

Re: That Really Rather Random (Interesting) Fact Thread
What is the deal with speed cameras? I can understand intersection cameras that'll take pictures that show you running a red light, but how does a still photograph prove conclusively that you were speeding? The single fact that someone took a picture of your car should not be all the evidence they need to prove guilt if the picture cannot show the offense being committed.
Then again, red-light cameras aren't all that good, either. Here in California, a news station reported on the statistics that police use to justify the cameras on the basis of safety. The police laud these statistics that show red-light cameras dramatically cutting down on the number of accidents at those intersections.
But what the police are only counting are traffic accidents caused by cars going through a red light: accidents inside the intersection. The police are conveniently ignoring all the accidents caused by cars stopping ahead of the red light and getting rear-ended by the traffic behind them: accidents just before the intersection. And the statistics there? The number of rear-end collisions caused by sudden braking are dramatically going up at the intersections where red-light cameras are installed.
