When do Oblivion Gates start appearing?

When do the Oblivion Gates start appearing? Like does it start appearing after or I deliver the Amulet or after I close the first gate? Because I want to play the side quest first without having to encounter Oblivion Gates on my way to travel.

They first start popping up after you rescue Martin from Kvatch, and deliver him to Cloud Ruler Temple, if I remember right. I could be wrong at the exact moment, been so long since I did the main quest. But I know its along that part of the main quest.

The gates first start appearing once you rescue Martin, but only a small number of them. You'll start seeing a lot of them after the infiltration on the Mythic Dawn.

K thx, I will just deliver the Amulet for the free basic equips, a book, and a horse and go do side quest. I'm saving for the main quest later because I want to get more spells for my Mage. Gonna join mages guild an do w/e sidequest I encounter if I can.

A good place to start is always the big money makers. Good examples would be the Arena and "The Collector". You can activate the latter by getting an ayelid statue and taking it to Umbacano in the Talos Plaza.
