The End of The World As We Know It: Elder Scrolls Edition

Post by RobotNixon »

This thread is mostly about trying to get into the heads of those who
work at Bethesda Softworks, and see where the story ends.

After looking at the Towers and Stones thread,
I have come to the conclusion that Mundus and Oblivion will eventually cease to exist,
seeing as the pillars of existence, the Towers and Stones, are slowly being destroyed Two by Two.

This leaves a few options: (In My Opinion)
Exsistance in that universe ceases to exist, (where's the sequel in that?) or,
(the following is mostly my original thought and not based on lore, and a lot of fanboyism...)
The universe changes into something more realistic,
meaning that whatever mystical bubble that surrounds Mundus and Oblivion disappears,
allowing Nirn to float into a more physics based universe like our own,
effectively opening up a whole new dimension to TES,
other star systems, maybe turning it into a Sci Fi series.
(I again say that anything I say in this post is probably not right,
so don't treat it as if I think it is infallible fact...)

While looking at The Elder Scrolls Themselves,
I noticed that The Elder Scroll that you witness in Oblivion is actually a star chart from Earth's Southern Hemisphere.

This means either Bethesda just used a premade star chart because it was easier and would
give them a bone to throw at me, or that maybe, just maybe, Nirn will join a universe that
contains an alternative Earth after Aetherius (which I percieve as a barrier between universes) is disbanded.

This is all speculation, guesswork, creative fiction, and otherwise complete bull****.
So don't take this too seriously.

I'd very much appreciate it if you posted your thoughts on TES's future!

That would be horrible. Although I would be able to live out my dream of driving down the road down the eastern shore of the Niben in an Aston Martin.

I still think that the towers issue is going to be a future ES plot. If the next one is indeed going to be set in Skyrim/Summerset Isle I wouldn't be surprised if either Snow Throat or Crystal Tower are integral to the plot, to do a bit more setting up, the ES VI will be a fight against the global conspiracy to destroy creation - by then (in at least 5 years' time) gaming technology and computing power will be advanced enough so that the whole of Tamriel can be playable in one game.

Why do I think this? The most conclusive document on the Towers and Stones is the Nu-Mantia Intercept, which was posted by Michael Kirkbride, who I'm pretty sure is the official lore guy at Bethesda, and so much of it ties in to what's already happened in the games that it can't just be random wittering.

And in any case, the Love Letter implies that there's going to be a big disaster in Tamriel soon - perhaps there will be an Elder Scrolls game with a main quest that simply cannot be won? Imagine completing the main quest and entering a post-apocalyptic world...

I'm positive the series would NOT go sci-fi. It would be confusing having the same title for two completely unrelated games. [inevitable yet sad fate] When the Elder Scrolls series ends, I think there will have to be an open ending, and you will have to draw your own conclusions about the future simply because the lore surrounding the series is so extensive that many people would be disappointed if there was a definite end.[/inevitable yet sad fate]
